Have you seen the sports headlines lately? Money is flying fast from teams to players. I don't want to hear owners in the next union contract negotiations complaining about the cost of doing business. It's obviously the owners driving up the cost of doing business and higher ticket prices are next.
The latest is Carlos Correa, who just won the baseball lottery also known as free agency.

"12-year, $315 million deal to play third base."
Ah, $26.25 Million/Year. His days of clipping digital coupons might be over during the season. Then there's the off-season.

I predict that Correa will have a lot of season ending injuries and bat about 230.

Feel free to jack up ticket prices, owners.
I won't be there.

I love baseball so I'll still go once a year to see a game played live. I can actually live through a three hour game without anything from the concession stand.

I wonder what Ted Williams might earn in today's market with a BA north of .4

Probably possible because the city government built the stadium. Yay!

Plus, he'll have a decent income from all the commercials he'll do. For those who don't watch baseball, one of the things I noticed this past year was that every umpire had an FTX patch on the front of their shirt. Up until about month or so ago, I didn't know what FTX was. Now we all know.

Supposedly they are signing these star players to longterm (11-14 years) contracts so that they won’t have to deal with potentially big raises when they become free agents. We’ll see how that works. Center fielder Mike Trout of the Angels was signed to a 12 ywar contract at $300 plus million plus other goodies. That was in about 2019. He spent the last few years on the injured list for a variety of things and, IMO, is no longer the player he was. They are stuck with him until he’s 39. And his aura of entitlement is nauseating. Their rising star center fielder, young Brandon Marsh, went to the Phillies and ended up playing in the World Series. He works for what amounts to minimum wage in MLB. Go figure.

As a recovering baseball junkie, the thing that rubs me is before the wholesale expansion, many of today's pitchers would be in AAA baseball. So, today's multi-millionaire "sluggers" should be hitting .350 or better. Also, by the tenth game of the season, there MAY be 3 to 4,000 in the stands. Sad.

Major League Baseball drew 64,556,678 fans in announced attendance in 2022. It's down from pre-pandemic numbers, but far from nobody goes anymore. Professional sports are more popular than ever, especially with the promotion of female fandom.

My observation: On a very winning team (the Houston Astros) Correa was not a star. He was a good position player who was part of a team of good players who kept their same positions always. I believe that was a secret to the Astros’ success. I credit Dusty Baker for nurturing a well-oiled team of players who always knew what they were supposed to do, were good at it, and played well together.
As for commercials, I don’t believe that any baseball player right now - not even Aaron Judge - is recognizable or interesting enough to be a commercial rep for a product or service.

You pay to watch baseball, enjoy the prices. I grew up and quit all that years ago.
