Why Congress Can’t Refuse to Seat Santos

The Democrats and the Fourth Estate have finally found, in congressman-elect George Santos (R-N.Y.), a Republican who is genuinely guilty of lying to the voters. Having thus discovered themselves — for once — in possession of the moral high ground, they have made the welkin ring with cries of outrage and calls for his resignation. However, if he ignores those calls, it may be difficult to stop him from being seated in the House and even harder to expel him once he takes office.

A Congress Critter lying? What a novelty. And they must keep him unless 2/3's of the HOR vote him out. Go ahead Critters do it to your own.

I don't see it to be a big deal. Democrats have been doing this for YEARS. Once the democrats come clean and stop lying then I would say we can do the same. Bottomline, we have to do as the Romans (democrats) do. There's nothing here, let's move on.

BOTH sides lie. They are politicians; that's what they do. The difference is that the media can be counted on to smooth over the Dems' lies while they will indignantly demand that Pubbie fabricators fess up and step down immediately.
Oh. And there's one other thing: The Pubbies will almost always cave, while the Dems never will.

He got elected as a Republican in a heavily democrat district because he said he was a homosexual. Nothing else mattered to the people who voted for him.. They thought he was Stunning! and Brave! and Stunning and Brave! They got what they wanted, now let them keep him. Remember, "democracy" is the system where people get what they vote for, and get it good and hard!

I’m surprised at the Dem response. Given He’s a known liar, I would have expected the Dems to be aggressively recruiting him to switch parties.

Biden lied about law school and academics in 1988, so what's the problem. Somali Jihadist Ilhan Omar used campaign funds illegally and her sorry @$$ is still around. I say he fits in with the rest of the swamp.

The joke will be on all of them when an unqualified liar does a better job than the rest of the congresscritters. It's hilarious to me that, for decades, congressmen have been lying about NOT being homosexuals. Now that hooking up the same plumbing fittings is in style, they make sure to put it on their resume like it's a career enhancer.

Democrats finding themselves on Moral High Ground! I almost spit my coffee out on that one! One could go down the list from Their Favorite Indian to the Guy who professed to have served proudly in the Military, when he was never in the military. Blumenthal comes to mind. There are many, many more Democrats who Lie, lets count the way Biden has lied, oh gee, I don't have that much time to waste this morning! No, we keep the little Republican Liar since we need all the R's we have. He can be dealt with next time he's up for election!

I was just going to ask others here to help me figure out why I'm finding some sort of perverse enjoyment in this story. His lying goes against my core principles, yet I feel no outrage. But reading #13's comments may help me self-analyze my dilemma. This guy is a liar, obviously, but we need every single R we can get to claw our way forward, and maybe it's just that simple!

....Santos should play the "Identify" card ...while he wasn't BORN a homosexual ...and ISN'T really one....he feels that he "IDENTIFIES" with being a homosexual.....let the dems stew on that

Saul Alinsky's fourth rule for radicals is, "Make your opponent live up to their own set of rules." For dems, this is the least affective rule because they're such opportune liars. In fact, demanding Santos's resignation makes the rest of us remember Warren, Blumenthal, both Clintons, Anthony Weiner, Biden, Ted Kennedy, Omar, and many more. IMO, Santos is fighting fire with fire. Let his voters decide in November 2024.

I am appalled at the individual, but nevertheless believe the Fetterman rule should apply: as long as a member is allegedly sentient enough to vote, then that vote should count.

If he was a Democrat, they would be grooming him to replace Joe Biden. I mean, the lies he told look like the sort of lies Joe Biden has told for his entire political career.

Well Santos is similar to Biden, as they are both politicians who got elected by spinning complete BS to the American people. If Biden can get away with spinning such BS from the White House, why can’t Santos do the same from the Congress?

I'm sorry, with probably 75% of the elected officials guilty of lying to the voters, why is this particularly special.
No supporter of liars, but why this particular liar? They are essentially ALL liars.

The Pubs should use this to their own advantage. Start with the long list of demoncrats, include their lies, crimes, and then clean the House, if you will. There should be chaos in Washington. Nothing should continue to function until things get under control. Every critter and their staff should be concerned about their futures. They have us on edge; they should be the ones feeling unrelenting pressure. Is there enough honesty and integrity among the 500+ "lawmakers" to clean things up? I'm not encouraged, and I'm convinced that dragging is the only way to go.

He should run for president against Xiden. It would be fun to see who could out lie who. Every one of the zeros in Congress lie constantly to the American steeple. Just look at the likes of Pelosi, Schumer, the turtle, Paul Ryan, John Boehner, Homer, Romney, etc
