Food stamp benefits are increasing by 12.5 percent as families grapple with grocery prices that have skyrocketed under President Joe Biden.
Under the maximum benefit, a family of four on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will see their payments increase from $835 to $939 per month.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) noted the change would be implemented in October and last a year, CNN reported.

I thought the poor ate a lot of rice and beans. At $31 a day they're eating way better than me.

When government dependency is a lifestyle instead of a helping hand in times of trial, self-respect is replaced by entitlement. It doesn’t take long to believe the government owes you. Incentive to work goes out the window and what is created is generational misery and dependency that soon turns into resentment. All the programs in the world will not help an individual who wants to remain unemployed and dependent. It appears to fuel violence and anger. LBJ’s the Great society has ruined so many lives and democrat policies are determined to keep that failed policy going. It may sound trite but people need a hand up, not a hand out. However, that will not work until the mindset of the people change.
The vast majority of Americans worked hard for generations to gain prosperity. It does not come overnight but you can change your life dramatically if you stay in school, learn a trade or go to college, work hard, and get married before you have children. It is an winning concept if you truly wish to better yourself. The self-imposed dependency is not permanent. It just takes the desire to want to live a better life and do what it takes to make it happen. America gives amble opportunities, but you have to go after them. If you do, you can change your life.

From the looks of those big fat Herford cows with their obese children in tow I see shopping SNAP should be reduced to bread, milk and eggs only. Pamphlets with instructual diets handed out with junk foods not being covered.

I'm living on a fixed income, it's not huge but enough that I don't need gvt support. But a $31 day buffer? oh yeah. I could do that!

#4 Check out the carts. 10 lb. tubes of 75-25 hamburger, stacks of drumsticks and wings, 10+ bags of chips and cases of Gatorade.
No wonder they turn sideways to get in the door!

More and more people on the government dole. Making people dependent is a critical way to break them.

Another October surprise for food stamp recipients who Biden and the Democrats believe are a good portion of their likely political supporters and voters. The US Government has actually created big-time “double dipping” in these food programs through both food stamps plus free” breakfasts, lunches, and dinners provided through the public schools. The reason for that is that there is no guarantee that many of the children of adult food stamp recipients will be fed by way of the food stamp payouts that can be fraudulently sold off for cash in inner city “communities” at a rate of 50 cents on the dollar, sometimes with food retailers being involved in that fraud. So the school run nutrition programs are being used as sort of a food fallback for those children.

There are no recent stories of arrests in connection with food stamp fraud investigations. The FBI must be too busy dispatching swat teams to the homes of anti-abortion protesters and citizens who were not present in WDC on Jan. 6.

$4 is correct, much of the "food" in those carts would not have been legal to purchase with government assistance in years past. $31 could feed an Ethiopian family of 12. With the raise, do those families get new "Wide Load" signs? I don't care what they eat, I do care that I'm paying for it.

Biden already increased food stamps 25% not that long ago. It’s one of the big reasons why we have so much inflation. Food stampers don’t give a damn what groceries cost.

And this folks is one of the reasons we can't find people to work. Why work 40 hrs a week to make let's say $40k when there's net $12k in food stamps, another $10k in rent subsidy, another $5k for heating oil, $3k in childcare benefits, and now in some places another $12k in guaranteed income. Boom a $2k raise and you haven't even had to get off the couch!

An individual gets $218 a month for food stamps, which are supplemental to all the other "free stuff" the "underprivledged" are given? That's MORE than we spend a month on groceries for the two of us, and we aren't starving, nor close to it. A few years ago I saw a study done in Wisconsin for two "identical" families of four - one with earned income, the other with zero earned income. To match the "free stuff" of the zero income family, the other had to earn over $60,000, and pay taxes, etc. And that was years ago. Wonder what a current study would reveal.

You can bet the folks on social security will not see that kind of an increase--and they were forced to pay into i=that fund all of their employed life. It made for a large nest egg for the federal government to raid.

Well, well, well, the democratic plantation gets another raise. This is how they keep'em on the plantation. It's called bribe a vote. The only people suffering in this country are the people who actually work for a living and pay taxes.

My dad is 92yo, his only income is SS. 2 years ago he usually had $150-200 left at h\the end of the month. He has canceled all magazine subscriptions, gave up driving, gave up his license so he doesn't need insurance, canceled his NRA, AARP, AMA memberships, only goes out to eat once a month, his daily glass of wine is 2buck chuck instead of something really good...I still have to make up $200-500mnth to cover the shortfall. He stopped asking me to get steak, shrimp, GOOD bacon,or anything "luxury" for him when I do his shopping...I'm fixin to cancel his cable, $258mnth and all he watches is CNN.
HE should get a cost of living increase not 'able bodied' younger people when there are Help Wanted signs out everywhere you look. When the Govt is welcoming Millions of people willing to cross continents to cross this border to get to work...and locals won't cross the street, let alone cross town to get a job....something is WRONG.
