Rifle Purchase Age to 21

On Wednesday, as part of a slate of bills aimed at curbing mass shootings and gun violence, the House voted to increase the age required to purchase a semi-automatic rifle from 18 to 21. The vote was 228 to 199, with ten Republicans joining Democrats in supporting the measure. Those GOP members were Representatives Fitzpatrick, Gonzalez, Jacobs, Katko, Kinzinger, Malliotakis, Salazar, Smith, Turner, and Upton. After an 18-year-old gunman used an AR-15-style weapon to massacre 19 children and two teachers in a fourth-grade elementary-school classroom in Uvalde, Texas, in May, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have been moving with urgency

Fair enough. Now repeal the 26th Amendment since you have no intention of recognizing it. The age of majority is back to 21. Under 21 cant vote, marry, sign contracts or be drafted into the military. Just once I would like to see politicians not be hypocrites for personal gain.

Most highly trained police officers aren’t able to get a lot of rounds on target during a shootout. How do they expect the average trained citizen to be a better shooter in a life or death tense environment and kill a bad guy with 10 rounds? And what if there are two or three home invaders? These people don’t consider any realistic scenarios when setting these illegal standards. They have huge security entourages with multiple weapons to shoot back. We are one and one only when we have to defend ourselves. These people who voted for this need an education in self defense.

I gave my nephews an AR lower when they hit 16, for Christmas. Over the next year and a half, they perused the eeb and selected all the various parts of their rifles, lots of options to choose from, and they got jobs to earn the money, a secondary benefit. When they had all their parts, I helped them build their own rifles. Needless to say, when they joined the USMC, "learning" to field strip their M16s was super easy, they had built them from scratch years before and shot them a lot. Both qualified in the top two or three in their battalion in boot camp.

Laws made because emotions and sympathy is high are rarely effective or a good idea. The let's do something just to do something crowd might feel good about their new rules and taking action, but they are usually the most ineffective laws passed.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up by 8.6 percent in May, the highest year-over-year increase since December 1981, the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed on Friday. The increase was higher than the 8.3 percent increase projected by economists. Core CPI, excluding volatile energy and food prices, increased by six percent year-over-year. The CPI increased by 1 percent in May alone, with core CPI rising 0.6 percent over the same period. Price increases were recorded in “shelter, gasoline, and food,” the BLS said. Gas prices hit a new record on Friday with the national average reaching $4.986 per gallon, according to AAA.

If the Democrats thought that the reaction to the Jan. 6 Committee was going to be riveting, the reaction so far from a variety of quarters says not so much. CNN’s Chris Wallace expressed skepticism that the Committee was going to produce anything of worth. “I’m kind of skeptical about what we’re going to see tonight and over the next couple of weeks,” Wallace said on CNN minutes before the hearing was set to begin. Wallace said the committee had put itself in danger of falling victim to too much “hype” about its findings and “over-selling” what they have to tell the American people about the attack.

Let me quote myself from a post published May 8 about the danger of people showing up at the justices’ homes: “[I]n the current political context, a fanatic has more motive to kill one of the Court’s conservatives than just satiating his or her rage. Doing so would provide a strategic benefit to the pro-choice side. Congress should give them all the bodyguards they need, and then some.” When you have reason to believe that five justices have signed onto overturning Roe but the decision hasn’t been handed down yet, that’s an incentive to take one of those votes away by any means necessary. It wasn’t that long ago when the left’s narrative on ‘gay rights’ was simple, straightforward, and easy to support: Let’s all be tolerant of one another, live and let live, and don’t discriminate. Tolerance is, after all, one of the fundamental tenets of the philosophy which drove America’s founding. But as the saying goes, “give someone an inch and they’ll take a mile,” which is the situation in which we find ourselves today. The message of ‘tolerance’ eventually morphed into ‘acceptance.’ At some point late in the Obama Administration, our culture decided that it was inadequate to merely tolerate the shenanigans of the LGBTQ community, we needed to welcome them.
