Speculation is rife concerning the possible presidential candidates representing the two major parties as the nation approaches the 2024 elections. Everyone has an opinion, and the pundits are competing in the expertise sweepstakes. What can we say with some degree of plausibility?
The Democrat roster is, by all accounts, dramatically uninspiring. Biden, who speaks in tongues, is plainly beyond redeeming; the question is whether he will manage to survive the year, let alone stumble, lollop, and whiffle to the end of his first term. Kamala Harris belongs in vaudeville or farce, given her talent for provoking laughter. Both will have to be retired in favor of an electable candidate. But who?

My prediction is that Trump will continue to keep control of the party, and thereby push his candidates through in 2022, and then announce he will not run in 2024 and put his full support behind Desantis. Hoping, anyway...

I'm with you number 2. I think Trump was a fantastic President who somehow managed to get things done despite non-stop investigations and harassment. I also believe he won the last election in a landslide. That said as a near 80 year old lame duck from day one the Marxists and their fellow travelers the never Trump RINOs will handcuff him from day one and there will not be enough time left to clean the swamp. Unfortunately!

I don’t really care which one it is - I will be thrilled to vote for either one of them. But above posters, if you think that the left won’t try to make DeSantis a lame duck from day one, you’re sadly mistaken. At this point, I’d expect them to treat him worse than they treated PDT.

Agree with the author. Trump '24, DeSantis '28. But there is one important point that needs to be considered. The quality/electability of the Republican or the sheer hapless unsuitability of the Democrat is NOT the main issue. If '24 is allowed to run like '20, Harris will beat DeSantis. Who can best stop the repeat of the evil combination of vote fraud and a co-opted judiciary (let us not overlook the importance of the second part) is the critical question.. While there are no sure answers, Trump looks like the better choice.

#3 is right: Trump got things done despite non-stop investigations and harassment and won the last election in a landslide.
Believing America remains a republic operating through "party politics" and fair and independent elections any longer is a pathetic joke. Just ask Obama, PIAPS, Bidet, Soros, Schumer, and Pelosi.

This is the '70s all over again--inflation, high gas prices, rising mortgage rates, "malaise."
In 1980 Ron Reagan saved the country from James Earl Carter. We need another Ron to save us from James Earl Biden.
We need Ron DeSantis.

I would vote for either. President Trump needs to give de Santis cover for as long as possible. Then he needs to support him like he has done these other candidates and get him elected in 2024. We will have the White House for 8 years. 16 years with the right VP selection. 4 years of a lame duck Trump is hurtful not helpful. I only hope he realizes that. Much as I like him and would vote for him I believe it has to be de Santis

Either one is fine with me. Seems like an unbeatable ticket if combined. I'm guessing the polls everywhere are going to be watched like a hawk by Republican poll watchers. I've already seen a piece about huge numbers of people are signing up to be Republican poll watchers. No one is going to try and pull the trick of everyone has to leave the room BS and then phony ballots come out and are counted. Every mail in ballot is going to be looked at and contested.

In three lines #12 has come to the conclusion that I hope Republicans reach. We must win in 2024. But as much as we all like and admire President Trump, I believe it will be Mr. Desantis's time to take the baton. Florida will lose a great governor, but America's future is now "hanging in the balance". I count the days until November 2022 and November 2024.

"Tomorrow is a fickle girl. You are never quite sure she will be there." The Trump vs. DeSantis conundrum has become fodder for fools. There is a huge difference between the responsibilities in running a state as opposed to running a multistate country. Trump is the champion and there is a matter of justice. Anyone remember that? Why choose when we can have both exceptional leaders. First things first. MAGA 100%

Since the title infers me rights to IMHO…. Leave Desantis in Florida, unschackled by a potentially feckless Congress/senate and put the Donald in President to achieve foreign policy again and nation fiscal responsibilities. Desantis who can openly rule his state freely role modeling for other conservative governors to maybe some day get back to state rights and diminished gross fed government overreach .

DeSantis would be a find cabinet secretary. So many things to turn around. Trump, no Desantis has the vision. Trump has identified the problem. Trump fixed the problems he could.
Recall that Bush W was elected with assurances that he was more like Reagan than his father, when it became clear the the establishment needed to sound Reaganesque to be in a position to ignore the base.
There is no hurry to move toward DeSantis. He'll be there tomorow.
Recall that at this time in 2014, Scott Walker was the hot governor----and Jeb! was asssumed to be the next in line.
Our success and our return to American excellence will not be found by those created from the ranks of the Political class

I do not see DeSantis running in 2024, regardless of whether Trump decides to run or not. DeSantis is in his early 40s, young enough to run anytime in the next 30 years. He is doing a fantastic job as Governor of Florida and appears to be enjoying doing it. He has young children and a wife who is recovering from cancer. Why would he want to put his family through what Trump went through since 2016?

We need to start thinking outside the box.
Unfair though it is, Trump is "damaged goods" to large swaths of the electorate and there is no reason to believe that DeSantis is interested running for president in 2024. Actually, there are good reasons to think that he is not (family situation, commitment to his work as governor).
I know that 75 million people voted for PJT last time, but they don't all remember or regard him the way we, his strongest admirers, do. Some would be open to a convincing pitch from a fresh-faced Democrat demagogue (perhaps Roy Cooper of N.C., who wants to run and wiil soon be wrapping up his second terrm as governor).
To say that "ONLY Trump can do this!" or "ONLY Trump can do that!" that is self-defeating.
It's time for us to cultivate new talent or run the risk of getting picked off base. Mike Pompeo and Tom Cotton worth serious looks.

I posted this 6/5 at the late end of a long thread that probably few saw. Without further ado...
I really, really like DeSantis...in '28 and '32...and not as VP in '24 either. He needs to stay in Florida and kick a$$ thru his 2nd term, get more seasoning, show what winning at the state level can do. He is still very young, won't be 50 until just before the '28 election. He can come fully onto the national stage in early '27 and run then if that is his and his family's choice.
I want the Trump Revenge Tour '24 - tickets available online early next year - in all its blazing fire and brimstone glory. I want him to smite those who stole the '20 election and our republic, the rule of law, and our innate American goodness. I want even meaner tweets and smash-mouth attacks on the communists intrenched throughout various levels of government, business, and academia. Take no prisoners.
He should choose a VP with no presidential ambitions, just a right-hand-man gunslinger to go into the fight with him. I understand the political calculus of those wanting him to not run and put '20 behind him, but...I want the MAGA King with the sword of Excalibur in his hands, taking off heads with each back and forth swing. ”

I think there are different definitions of "lame duck" at use here. If by "lame duck" you mean Mr. Trump couldn't get anything done in a second, nonconsecutive term, that's one thing. But he's a formidable man and has proven he can accomplish a good deal despite opposition from the Dems and even some Pubbies. In that sense, Mr. Trump is NOT a lame duck.
However, if by "lame duck" you mean Mr. Trump can serve only four years and then he's done, you are correct. By that definition he is a lame duck.
I would vote from either Mr. Trump or Mr. DeSantis. However, I prefer DeSantis at this point. To me, he is Donald Trump without the baggage. But then again, Donald Trump knows how to carry that baggage quite handily.

In complete agreement with #22-23. Gov. DeSantis is doing a wonderful job, and is just approaching the end of his first term. Let our good governor go on to reelection and continue on in a second term. He will have two years from the end of his second term until the 2028 election, plenty of time to organize a winning campaign. Election Day 2028: That will be DeSantis time.

#7 Disagree......electability and winning is everything in 24. If we don't win, there won't be a country we recognize for DeSantis to run in 28. So, it is critical that we put winning front and center. I think DeSantis gives us the best chance. I voted for Trump twice, and will do so again if he is the nominee. I'm also thankful for the job he did as President. But when he recently said that it would be OK with him if Abrahms wins in GA, that was it for me. I'm tired of the drama, vendettas, and him placing his ego above the conservative movement. But, again, winning and moving the conservative movement forward is my top priority.

My prediction and preference.....DJT picks Ron as his running mate and before election agrees to turn over presidency to Ron when he turns 80 (thereby setting precedent for all politicians.). I believe that team is unbeatable. DJT gets redemption and Ron would have 9 or 10 years. If they should lose —however unlikely —Ron would still be Governor until 2026 (assuming Florida law would allow him to run in ‘24 w/o resigning).
Bottom of all bottom lines, we must win in ‘24 and I will vote for either one.

I did read your take on things, #23-24, on the other thread. I agree completely. I greatly admire DeSantis and sure wish we had a man of his caliber as my state’s Governor. His courage, creativity and fearless facility with the PRESS is an absolute must now for Republican leaders. DeSantis is like Trump was - HE goes out before the people and he does it frequently. He behaves as if the buck stops here. However, Florida like Texas is so vitally important and unlike other super-ambitious pols for whom every new office is just a stepping stone to the Oval Office, DeSantis is fighting for his state long term, I believe. He won’t be talked into leaving until he feels the state is in solid conservative hands. It will take time. The Bushie globalists will retake FLA leadership if they can. We will then be back to square one.
I know its easy to dump on Trump now. However, I disagree we should just move on, forget 2020 was a fraudulent election. It is not over and it won’t be until our side stands up and defends the principles we were founded upon. To me, we greatly dishonor not only our Founding Fathers but all those who shed blood for what we have since the American Revolution if we allow this illegal installation of a POTUS to stand. Trump, warts and all knew how to lead on the International stage. He began to set right our allies taking constant advantage of us while pretending to be our friends with their hands out. He knew how to talk with, negotiate with the most powerful people on earth. He had our enemies nervous.
God bless our battered and hurting USA.
