Twitter faces the ‘nightmare’ of being

Twitter’s board of directors gathered this week to sign what sounds like a suicide pact. It unanimously voted to swallow a “poison pill” to tank the value of the social media giant’s shares rather than allow billionaire Elon Musk to buy the company. The move is one way to fend off hostile takeovers, but what is different in this case is the added source of the hostility: Twitter and many liberals are apoplectic over Musk’s call for free speech protections on the site. Company boards have a fiduciary duty to do what is best for shareholders, which usually is measured in share values. Twitter has long done the opposite.

Philosophy requires one to fit one’s mind to the world; ideology compels one to fit the world to one’s mind. The crux was how each viewed human nature: philosophy accepted the imperfectability of human nature; ideology demanded its perfection. Within this admittedly narrow limning, one can see how philosophy and ideology respond when confronted by reality. By accepting the imperfectability of human nature, a philosophic attitude encourages intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and societal growth. By rejecting the imperfectability of human nature and recognizing instead only the capricious whims of untrammeled will,

The Biden Administration has decided to extend the federal public transportation mask mandate for another two weeks “to monitor [the] uptick in COVID-19 cases,” says the AP’s White House reporter. Joe Biden couldn’t be doing more to elect Republicans if he tried. First things first: The Biden Administration never should have issued that mandate in the first place, and certainly should have allowed that mandate to expire. Vulnerable in-cycle Democrats – but I repeat myself – are going to be wondering what they did to anger the leader of their party so much that he decided to hurt them even more as they prepare to campaign this fall.

Just recently I saw an older man with wide eyes and a masked face driving alone in his car. Why? Why would anyone choose to wear a fresh-air-constricting, sound-blocking face covering with no danger of any kind to threaten his immediate well-being? The misinformation and fear surrounding the masks we have all been asked to wear is overwhelming.

If you want a classic example of "small," a pretty good place to look is on the hallowed heights of the Twitter elite. Elon Musk made Twitter a $43 billion offer to buy the whole company, which amounted to a 38% premium to what the stagnant stock had been trading at before Musk laid down cash to buy his first share. Any normal person would have taken it, as they'd find themselves very, very, well-compensated along with everyone else who owned shares in the company. Any ethical person would put the Musk offer out to a shareholders to vote, given the potential payout. But Twitter's board is none of those things.
