BRUSSELS — A new front line of conflict is taking shape in Europe, with enhanced levels of risk that raise questions about whether NATO will, or even can, respond effectively. Having invaded Ukraine and deployed its troops in a compliant Belarus, Russia has suddenly extended its military power to the borders of several NATO countries, including the Baltic nations. If Russia succeeds in taking over Ukraine and keeping bases in Belarus, as many experts now expect, its forces will extend from the borders of the Baltics and Poland to Slovakia, Hungary and northern Romania, making it significantly harder for NATO to

Nato is, and had been a joke, for a long time. Just another waste of money

NATO is now proven to be a paper tiger. The Euroweenies have been opting out for decades, and now the rot is so deep and bad that it is obvious that it is a joke. The Euroweenies have very, very little real military capability these days. Huge swaths of their theoretical military strength is just not able to function. Whole squadrons and squadrons of tanks and aircraft, down for spare parts for years, pilots and tankers who have so little time training that their skills are seriously rusty. Little ammunition in stockpiles, and even if you imagined that ALL their tanks, armored personnel carriers and aircraft were working....the numbers are not many at all.
NATO is spent because the Euroweenies have decided that Communism - with THEM in charge - is what they want, NOT freedom, NOT repbulican or democratic government by the people. They are heading towards a modern version of the old aristocracy of kings and queens running everything - tyranny appeals to them, if they get to be the tyrants.

"Suddenly???" Like the the wholesale abandonment of European national security and sovereignty in the face of the Russian oil and gas monopoly just happened over night? Like the destruction of all aspiration to real fossil fuel, nuclear, and hydrothermal energy independence for most of Europe just went poof in the last 72 hours? Hard times ahead, they will be harder for those who are stupid.
I'd like to ask the buffoons at the NYTimes what color the sky is on their home planet because obviously they don't live here on Earth.

Maybe the Europeans we've subsidized for 80 years will consider taking more responsibility for their own defense. I'm not holding my breath.

NATO/OTAN is all paper mache and has no veracity except, and only, when the United States is involved. there is no way NATO/OTAN would stand up to any Soviet Russian military because they're all on the same page in Europe and Western Asia

NATO is vulnerable and no NATO country has been attacked. Seems to be a rather frail alliance that cannot even endure a non-attack.

Underestimate Poland at your own peril. They would make the Mujahideen, who once sent Russia into a bloody retreat from Afghanistan, look like passel of tranny "Boy Scouts." The best and perhaps only way to prepare for a shooting war, is to immediately crank up our domestic Oil & Gas exploration and production, along with finishing the pipeline from Canadian shale oil fields to our Gulf Coast refineries. Biden is intentionally placing the U. S. homeland at grave risk by appeasing his party's enviro-communists.

The U.S. is NATO. Without the U.S. there is no NATO. Its why Trump started hammering the European countries to start doing their part and was then scolded by the MSM for being rude to our allies. Since WWII, the European countries have spent their money living the socialist dream knowing the U.S. taxpayer was funding their protection.

NATO is a joke. And NATO is only as strong as the US military is -- and we are a "woke joke" of a military right now under "commander in chief" Impotent Joe bidet!!!!! Without going nuclear, I'm not sure there are a lot of old-fashioned wars we could win anymore.
However, Ukraine had the chance to join NATO, which would have forced NATO's hand in this. They didn't do it. Neither NATO or anyone else "owes" Ukraine anything. The Germans, French, etc, live next door to Russia. They don't want to get into a war with Russia that is just going to get a lot of their women and children killed. And they certainly aren't doing to do it over a non-member country!!!
Ukraine cannot win this war. That is just reality. They need to put down their weapons and surrender immediately before another Ukrainian is killed or another building bombed into rubble. The Ukrainians have been under Russian control for most of the last century. Live to fight another day!!!

I just heard on shortwave that Putin has threatened NATO countries, demanding that NATO forces with draw for the former Soviet dominated countries or face military and technical consequences. That sounds like a threat ofd massive cyber warfare. If that happened, provided Biden doesn't back down and withdraw Americans from various NATO countries, the U. S. needs to task its attack subs to sink Russian capital ships, including their vaunted aircraft carrier and any Chinese ships, including their former Russian carrier that China has made into a STOL carrier, that appear to be attempting to help Russia or harm U.S. interests.
To our resident surrender crowd, while NATO as a fighting force may be weak (a joke as some like to call it), it allows the U.S. access to bases closer to Russia that may be used to attack and degrade Russian forces on the other side of the Atlantic. Would those pushing for NATO withdrawal rather have naval engagements off Coney Island or having to beat back Russian troops landing on Palm Beach?

#12 - The Russians can't project power much beyond their borders, They have not the logistical resources to accomplish much more than that. Their surface navy is lucky to get out of the Black Sea. Submarines don't carry invasion forces.
But, should they make it over here, I'm sure the residents of Palm Beach would welcome their new friends with beachside mai tais and nice welcoming soirees...the Russkies are anti-Trump, arent they? Besides, I suspect it's a gun-free zone down there.

I'm sure NATO is anxious to go in there and kick butt, but the pregnant-friendly flight suits are back ordered and not enough members have finished WOKE training. Also some tanks have been received with transmission problems: more forward speeds than reverse speeds, finally the flower pots for the main guns are far to prone to rust.
