Last night, ABC aired its Alec Baldwin interview regarding Halyna Hutchins’s death. It was already old news that Baldwin claims that, while he cocked the gun, he did not pull the trigger. The surprise was his confession that he feels no guilt whatsoever for what happened because it was everybody else’s fault, not his. (snip) ‘I’m just showing. I go, ‘How ‘bout that? Does that work? You see that? Do you see that?’
‘And then she goes, ‘Yeah, that’s good.’
In other words, it was Halyna’s fault that the gun was aimed in her direction.
Baldwin also claims he had no responsibility for there being a live bullet in the gun.

And he will get away with it. He showed a clear ignorance of how that firearm worked and because of that had no business with it in his hands. He said he let the trigger go but did not lower the weapon and was still pointing at a human being, he was responsible for her death. I am no expert but you never point a firearm, loaded or unloaded, at anyone ever unless you mean to shoot them. While this incident may have been an accident caused by an irresponsible action through horsing around or gun ignorance, a woman is dead. There is no bringing her back and when you have the power of life or death in your hands as you do when you handle a firearm, you must at all times be responsible for what happens while it is in your hands.
While Baldwin may walk on criminal charges, he will face a plethora of civil lawsuits. That kind of pressure will send this emotional hot head around the bend. What is puzzling to me is the fact that his lawyer allowed him to do this interview. Baldwin probably assured him he could convince the viewers he was totally innocent. He is an actor, after all. Hubris will be this guy’s downfall.

After writing the entire article, the author, wonderful person that she is, came to the conclusion that Alec Baldwin is an evil human being.
That's the first thing that comes to mind when I hear his name.

I suggest there is a critical difference between responsibility and liability, meaning because the gun was in Baldwin’s hands, he is clearly morally responsible but because he was on a movie set and not a gun range, he was fully entitled to assume the armorer had prepared a safe weapon and is therefore not criminally or legally liable.

At the end of the article it says this makes Alec Baldwin “seem like an evil person.”
There was no need for equivocation. Alec Baldwin is objectively evil.
He won’t face criminal charges, of course. Criminal charges are for little people like us.
I’m comforted in knowing that he will be sued into relative poverty. His wife will divorce him. He will still have Hollywood “friends,” but suddenly he won’t be invited to Hollywood parties. No one will finance his projects and no one will cast him for parts.
That will figuratively kill this pompous jerk.

Baldwin has been known for his obscene victory laps on social media after someone to his right politically has an accidental discharge and someone dies. Now, it's happened to him because he's basically an idiot who never respected firearms. I'll bet he's learned to respect them now.

As to what #3 posted, I was wondering the same thing while reading this.
If Baldwin doesn’t have a lawyer, he should get one tuite de suite.
And if he does why would his lawyer agree, and/or allow him to do this interview? He showed us all was how depraved, delusional, and self centered he is.
It’s hard to imagine that how lower of an opinion I’ve had of him all these years, it could actually get, or go lower.

I still say, if he is so opposed to guns, why in the world would he make a movie that includes guns! He uses them to entertain the public. His crew used them to target practice. He is making things a whole lot worse by trying to blame everyone but himself.

#11, for the same reason that every other leftwing anti-gun actor does it - the Benjamins. Example - NCIS is now in its 18th (I think) season. Mark Harmon is a big anti-gun advocate but how many times has he fired a gun or killed someone as part of the show’s screenplay? Hundreds? Thousands?
As for Baldwin, he’s always been an evil and unstable jackass with a really bad temper. But there should be no insanity plea in this case - he was probably in the midst of one of his tantrums when he shot Hutchins.

I've been using single action revolvers for the past 50 years, so I am very familiar with how they work. His explanation does not sound possible. As part of the investigation he should be able to recreate his claim of partially cocking the weapon and having the hammer drop on the cylinder without the trigger being pulled. Unless there is something wrong with that particular revolver it does not sound possible.

This was a well rehearsed, staged event, rather than an interview. Stephanopoulos is a leftist shill, sympathetic to Baldwin. Stephanopoulos read pre-arranged questions, Baldwin recited lines from memory. This travesty brings back bad memories of Lester Holt’s meeting with the cop who murdered Ashli Babbitt.

He has convinced himself that he didn't pull the hammer back, point it at someone, and squeeze the trigger. The armorer is at fault for allowing live ammo on the set.
He has not convinced me.

Two points not made yet. The excerpts I have seen Indicate that he admits he did not check the gun, and in fact is blaming the person who gave him the gun, sociopathic behavior. Second, when does little Georgie loose his “journalist” monocle? He certainly is wimpy enough but now everyone knows that he is the one you “go to” when you want to spin at will. Dementia Joe’s handlers have used him multiple times. Zero credibility.

First, how long has it been since this tragedy happened? And yesterday he comes out with the magic gun explanation? If he were using my Ruger Blackhawk and a flea flew by and passed gas on the trigger I could see it going off or from a slightly more probable unnoticed accidental brush of the trigger. Let's get a simple trigger pull test. But that still leaves a live round in the chamber staged in the position that is one pull of the hammer away from indexing to the firing position.

When he and Georgie decided to get a dig on Trump, I changed the channel. But before that, I don’t think Alec did himself any favors. His story about cocking the gun but not pulling the trigger sounds implausible to me. In other words, he didn’t do it, the gun did.

I always operate by the chill jill principle: What SHOULD have happened but didn't?
In this case, the issue is timing. It's been 6 wks since the incident. A normal INNOCENT person, accused of murder ---ESPECIALLY a celebrity--- would've been out talking to the media daily and being outraged that he could be blamed for something so horrific. But instead, crickets from both sides for SIX weeks? WHY 6 weeks?
WHY? Because a PRODUCTION such as the one aired DEC 2 takes TIME. What viewers saw was a heavily-negotiated, lavishly-choreographed, staged Stephanopolous interview complete with dramatic music playing in the background. We were treated to audience-building teasers a few days in advance. Baldwin could finally publicly shed his tears... but, to a dramatic musical score? Give me a break. What viewers saw was a cringeworthy ABC production, not an interview.

It's getting hard to remember that this on-set live fire event happened to the Director of Photography Halyna Hutchins , not to Alec Baldwin. The articles I've been seeing seem to portray it as if the whole thing is now all about him. How he feels. How hard this is on him. Is it just too terrible of me to suspect that there is some part of his oversized ego that is eating this up? "My greatest role!"

Baldwin should put his producer/seasoned actor thinking cap on and answer three questions: You decided to cut corners on experienced armorers to save money. Why, then, would you allow functioning guns on the set? Also, since movies always call for a suspension of disbelief, why is it necessary to use real guns at all? If Gary Sinise could be made to look exactly like he didn’t have legs in a movie made a quarter of a century ago why does any movie require real guns?

I've collected old western style Colts along with other makes since the 1960s and I have seen all the maladies that can happen. In this incident the first thing law enforcement should have done was secure the weapon and if it was moved from the scene investigate all the handlers of the weapon. All of Baldwins claims could be verified or disproved if forensics was done on the firearm in question. We know Baldwin fired the weapon now prove him right or wrong end his public rant. Baldwin is setting the stage with his own comments on friendly grounds with Georgie Boy I see this from far off.

Did the hammer fall and strike the primer, igniting the cartridge and propelling a bullet down the barrel to kill the victim?
Yes. That is obviously correct.
OK, now test the firearm. Does the trigger sear surface hold the hammer fully back? If yes, then we can be certain that Baldwin pulled the trigger. Test it several times. If the gun works normally now....it was working normally then unless someone has disassembled it and replaced parts....which I seriously doubt. I'm sure that the gun has been in police custody as evidence the whole time.
This is the way that this kind of handgun works. If it still works normally when tested, his claims are pure BS. If the gun is broken...it will still be broken. If it is not broken, he pulled the trigger.
My bet is that he's just lying. He won't take responsibility for his own actions.

"Baldwin says he cocked the gun"
And then he pulled the trigger. It doesn't take much pressure to touch off a single action revolver once it's cocked.
He IS criminally liable.
NM Stat § 30-2-3
30-2-3. Manslaughter.
Manslaughter is the unlawful killing of a human being without malice.
B. Involuntary manslaughter consists of manslaughter committed in the commission of an unlawful act not amounting to felony, or in the commission of a lawful act which might produce death in an unlawful manner or without due caution and circumspection.
Whoever commits involuntary manslaughter is guilty of a fourth degree felony.

There are supposed to be specific people to manage weaponry on set when weapons are involved in a production. So to a certain extent, he is right. This live bullet was not on him. But his anger issues causing him to maybe have a meltdown on set are. I hope the really bigwig types running Hollywood are taking a look at this and taking steps to make sure this doesn't happen again. But I doubt it. Liberals never do anything until forced to do so.

It is highly questionable whether Baldwin formed in his mind the intent to murder his victim. If there was no intent to murder, there was no murder. It was probably negligent homicide. He can still be convicted and punished for that, but the likelihood is he will not be fully prosecuted. It will all come down to a lawsuit in which Baldwin will settle for the insurance limits for the production company, of which he himself was one of the producers. He'll likely have to kick in a $million or two from his personal stash as well. The movie will never be completed. If the writer of the book on which the movie was based was anticipating royalty shares from the movie sales, he's out of luck on that one as well.
Baldwin is now one of those individuals whose name will forever bear an asterisk in print.

I like single action pistols. You must pull back the hammer; you can't do it by pulling the trigger. Pulling the trigger almost always makes your hand move and ruins your aim. On the other hand, when a gun is cocked, the amount of force to pull the trigger is greatly reduced.
Almost to the point where you would feel the gun went off by itself.
And the fact that some prop person said 'that's my job'? The answer should have been "That WAS your job. You're off the set. NOW."

BTW, site managers. It's probably terrible to point this out but pulling back the hammer on a gun is to (something) it. It's technical... but it is the correct terminology. Further, there are hens and then there are the male chickens which are correctly called... well, not roosters although that is another term. Having those two terms block a post is silly.
