Genetically modified mosquitoes have been released for the first time in the United States as part of an experiment to combat insect-borne diseases such as Dengue fever, yellow fever, and the Zika virus.
UK-based biotechnology firm Oxitec, which is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, said it released the mosquitoes in six locations in Monroe County’s Florida Keys: two on Cudjoe Key, one on Ramrod Key, and three on Vaca Key.
It’s part of an effort to help tackle a disease-transmitting invasive mosquito population—the Aedes aegypti mosquito species—that’s responsible for “virtually all mosquito-borne diseases transmitted to humans,” according to the company.

OP additional comment:
Here is where they got permission. Apparently their stated mission is to rid the world of disease-bearing mosquitoes… EPA has approved pilot project and this article tells what it is about:

Wonder if Fauci has a financial stake in this? He and Bill do seem pretty tight lately.

So we can blame the EPA for their stupidity.

And this is considered "safer" for the environment and humans than DDT....why?

I agree with the OP. Regular people forbidden to build on their own property if the EPA deems it a wetland, but billionaires can release mutant mosquitos?

If this were a movie, releasing these genetically modified insects would be the precursor to the invasion of giant mosquitos who drain a man of all life energy in seconds and leave society in chaos. Oh, wait, it's not a movie and we already have Democrat/Marxists doing that.

So, thanks to the soon to be divorced Gatester, we now have tranny mosquitoes.

FTA:"They’re expected to mate with the local biting female mosquitoes, and in doing so, they will pass on a lethal gene that will ensure their female offspring die before reaching maturity." A good idea for mosquitoes. And then for Billy Boy, a 'light bulb went on'.......
Gee, could this work on people? Maybe some foreign proteins made inside your cells and then ...years later, "Oh, darn it accidentally made you sterile? That's a real shame. But, remember, we are immune from lawsuits by federal law."

What could possibly go wrong?
What about the animals that feed on these mosquitos? Is it safe for them? Are we going to have major impacts on the eco-system? Just asking...

This kind of thing has been done before with great success. Screw worms used to be a terrible problem here, I guess all over the U.S. Using sterilized flies, they were driven all the way down to central America by the 1980's. I haven't heard about them since.
BUT, since we now live in a different country, and especially considering someone with Gate's agenda, I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw 'em.

If you are a curios person, look up the ugly saga of diethylstilbestrol. Second gen problems passed genetically.
Be curious. Be aware. Be skeptical.

#4 is right on. We had this stuff called DDT and it worked well. Instead we get mutant mosquitos. Brilliant.

People are entirely missing the point. These are invasive, harmful as hell mosquitoes from the middle east, and they carry disease. IMO, this process is a legit one.
But look at the process of genetic modification as a model for controlling the reproductive capability of other species.....maybe way up the food chain. And note that the effect doesn't actually occur until the maturation of the second generation. So, for some longer lived species, that could be say 25-30 years after the initial genetic changes.

Well stated, #14. This is fighting fire with bigger fire. Some skepticism is valid tho, of unknown and/or unintended outcomes.

What could possibly go wrong? Releasing bugs to kill diseases that don't exist in the U.S. I'm sure the scientists that wanted to study the African killer bee never expected anything to go wrong.

Wow, that guy really seems to have a god complex. First he wants to dim the sun and now mutate mosquitoes! What could go possibly go wrong? I wonder what other schemes he has to save the world.

Not to worry. They will all die when their little beaks become clogged with nanotrackers in the blood of vaccinated hosts.

Gypsy moths were an academic experiment.
DDT was banned because a lesbian science writer/professor had cancer, looked for a reason for the cancer, and wrote Silent Spring.
Tens of millions of Africans have died because of that book.

We're all thinking the same thing here. It's easier to avoid the COVID shot than it is to avoid mosquito bites. This science fiction book is writing itself.

Did these idiots never hear of 'love bugs', a Florida nightmare every May and again in fall? They were a genetically modified mosquito.

#25, I lived in Fla back in the 70s when the love bugs were super bad.
Your claim is absolute nonsense. Love bugs are a normal, indigenous insect that on rare occasions has had extreme population explosions for a season or two, then they go back to normal.
