The University of Oxford is considering scrapping sheet music for being 'too colonial' after staff raised concerns about the 'complicity in white supremacy' in music curriculums. Professors are set to reform their music courses to move away from the classic repertoire, which includes the likes of Beethoven and Mozart, in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.
University staff have argued that the current curriculum focuses on 'white European music from the slave period', according to The Telegraph.(Snip) It claimed that teaching musical notation had 'not shaken off its connection to its colonial past' and would be 'a slap in the face' to some students.

Joe Biden, or whoever is pulling the strings, has an ambitious agenda. Too ambitious in a well-functioning democracy for a president who squeaked into the White House and whose party holds only half of the Senate seats. There is no mandate for the kind of sweeping change Biden and his handlers desire.
One can debate whether ours is a well functioning democracy, but I hope it still functions well enough to prevent the kind of radical change the Democrats are pushing for. I believe it probably will, for the next two years at least.
On the face of things, the filibuster is the obstacle to the Democrats’ radical agenda.

While Congress was grilling some Big Tech CEOs this week, Democratic leaders were busy in the background, working on proposals to change how Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act is written. Sadly, there are plenty of people on both sides of the ideological divide who have become so angered by the actions of Twitter and Facebook, along with the other social media heavyweights, that support for this sort of action seems to be growing. But what House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) and his cronies are planning to do won’t stop some of the worst abuses

A divided federal appeals court in Ohio ruled that former President Donald Trump’s ban on bump stocks is unconstitutional and should no longer be enforced by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The Trump administration first issued the regulation in 2018 approximately a year after a shooter used bump stocks on his rifles to carry out a mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas that left 58 people dead and hundreds injured. Bump stocks, federal officials argued, modified semi-automatic rifles enough to be classified as machine guns, which U.S. civilians are prohibited from owning, and required quick action from the Department of Justice to make it

WASHINGTON — Democrats have spent the last several years clamoring to raise taxes on corporations and the rich, seeing that as a necessary antidote to widening economic inequality and a rebuke of President Donald J. Trump’s signature tax cuts. Now, under President Biden, they have a shot at ushering in the largest federal tax increase since 1942. It could help pay for a host of spending programs that liberal economists predict would bolster the economy’s performance and repair a tax code that Democrats say encourages wealthy people to hoard assets and big companies to ship jobs and book profits overseas.

Days after the Ever Given became lodged in the canal, its rudder has been freed and dredging is complete. Some salvagers hope it could be freed this weekend, but the wait for shipping to resume continues.
Egyptian authorities Wednesday were engaged in a complicated effort to dislodge a giant container ship stuck in the Suez Canal, blocking all traffic on one of the world’s busiest shipping arteries.
The huge vessel got stuck in the canal sideways, with its bow wedged in one bank and its stern nearly touching the other, on Tuesday during a dust storm when wind speeds reached 40 knots, according to a person familiar with the incident.

President Biden called on 10 reporters to answer 30-some questions during his long-awaited first formal press conference on Thursday. But the hour-plus event was a disgrace for some in the press and a dubious performance by the president.
The questions for the president were meek and vague, failing to extract any specific information about policies or solutions to the myriad problems faced by the administration. Take, for example, this activism disguised as a question from PBS's Yamiche Alcindor on why the president needs to abolish the filibuster in the name of racial equality while combating evil Republicans in their efforts to prevent minorities from voting. President Biden came out Thursday against the Senate filibuster as a “relic of the Jim Crow period.” It is now a virtual mantra on Capitol Hill that the filibuster is synonymous with racism and anyone supporting it is presumptively racist. That point was noted by MSNBC host Al Sharpton, who threatened to denounce senators as racists if they support the rule. The only thing more impressive than this historical revisionism is the political revisionism underlying this new campaign. The filibuster is historically more a “relic” of the Julius Caesar era than the Jim Crow era.

Actress Sharon Stone characterized cancel culture as the “stupidest thing” she has ever seen.
Stone gave her thoughts on cancel culture during Thursday’s episode of the SiriusXM show “Just Jenny.”
“I think cancel culture is the stupidest thing I have ever seen happen,” Stone told host Jenny Hutt. “I think when people say things that they feel and mean, and it’s offensive to you, it’s a brilliant opportunity for everyone to learn and grow and understand each other.”

Joe Biden has never been known for subtlety. Fox News reports:
President Biden has picked the wife of an extremely influential U.S. senator for a federal commission post, the White House announced Friday.
Biden nominated Gayle Conelly Manchin to co-chair the Appalachian Regional Commission (snip) Mrs. Manchin would have major role in an agency with a $165 million budget whose “mission is to innovate, partner, and invest to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in Appalachia.”
The word “invest” is the key one here. That means money. Money handed out to people

Senator Ted Cruz and 18 of his Republican colleagues have released shocking photos and video showing children packed into migrant camps, blaming President Joe Biden for the crisis at the southern border.'This is inhumane, it is wrong and it is the direct consequence of policy decisions by the Biden administration to stop building the wall, to return to catch-and-release, and to end the stay-in-Mexico policy,' Cruz said at a press conference on Friday.Cruz, Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma and others shared heartbreaking images of a severely overcrowded holding facility in Donna, Texas, where Lankford said that 'pods' designed to hold 80 children are packed with more than 700.

Ron Johnson (R-WI) noted Friday. He added that unless it changes its approach to immigration, the Biden administration is not up to the task of fixing the problems at the border.Johnson briefed reporters about the situation at the southern border after touring the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, considered the epicenter of the migrant surge, and the Donna immigration processing center along with a delegation of 17 other GOP senators.According to Johnson, as a senator,

A quasi-official body tied to the Loudoun County, Virginia, public schools on Friday pledged to “silence the opposition,” apparently referring to parents who question the schools’ adoption of controversial racial ideologies, as officials seemed to double down after revelations of a list, the stated purpose of which was to “infiltrate,” “hack,” and “expose” such parents. The LCPS Minority Student Achievement Advisory Council (MSAAC) wrote on Twitter and Facebook: There is strength in numbers & we believe wholeheartedly, that united, we can & will silence the opposition. We ask that you please support our call to action by engaging in these 5 small, but impactful actions

New York Attorney General Letitia James’s office has sent subpoenas to dozens of officials in Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration in connection with an investigation into sexual-harassment claims against the governor, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. Melissa DeRosa, the governor’s top aide, is among the officials who received a subpoena, the paper said. Paul Fishman, a lawyer for the Cuomo administration, said in response to the paper that “no one should be surprised that the AG’s office is issuing requests for documents and interviewing witnesses,

The nation’s very first “vaccine passport” is coming to the Big Apple.
The program, dubbed the “Excelsior Pass,” is an app that will allow New Yorkers to prove their vaccination status, or recent history of a negative COVID-19 test, in order to gain entry to events and businesses, Governor Cuomo announced in a news release Friday. “Similar to a mobile airline boarding pass, individuals will be able to either print out their pass or store it on their smartphones using the Excelsior Pass Wallet app,” the news release explains. “Each Pass will have a secure QR code, which participating businesses and venues

There’s no doubt that if you spend much time on the internet, you’re going to be buried in an avalanche of false claims, exaggerations, conspiracy theories with no basis in fact, and outright, bald-faced lies from politicians of the right, left, and center.
The “Information Age” has become a nightmare from which we are unable to awaken. As it turns out, there is, indeed, such a thing as too much information. We are all forced to selectively filter what information we process, resulting in our natural biases playing a large role in what information we actually absorb.
Take the border crisis. Whom do you believe? Whose opinion do you trust?

This has not exactly been a secret, if you have been paying attention for the last 8 months.
But Joe Biden’s performance in the press conference on Thursday — which took place ONLY because Democrat party-supporting media organizations had begun to question why he had not yet appeared in a press conference setting since the inaugural — confirmed the unspoken truth: that Joe Biden is only a prop, not the leader of the free world.
My RedState colleague Nick Arama did this story yesterday on photographs which captured the “cheat sheets” Biden had to use at the podium to assist him in picking the reporters he should call on

President Joe Biden railed against Georgia’s new voter integrity law on Friday, slamming the law as “un-American,” “a blatant attack on the Constitution and good conscience,” and “Jim Crow in the 21st Century.” Biden repeated false claims about Georgia’s elections system and mischaracterized key parts of the bill.
Biden celebrated the record number of voters in the 2020 election and claimed that “recount after recount and court case after court case upheld the integrity and outcome of a clearly free, fair, and secure democratic process.” He did not mention the last-minute election rules changes due to COVID-19 or the Time expose about a “conspiracy” to “save” the election for Biden.
