Long Island police chief due
for million-dollar payday

Meet the million-dollar cop. The police chief of tiny, low-crime Southampton Village—pop. 3,307, with 30 sworn officers—makes more than NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea. That would be the top cop of New York City, pop. 8,300,000, with about 36,000 sworn officers. Chief Thomas Cummings was compensated $441,945.82 last year, according to village documents. His annual base pay was $263,829, easily topping Shea’s $239,092. The village is not exactly a hotbed of crime. It has not had a murder since 2008, and last year reported no homicides, rapes, robberies or aggravated assaults. It did have two car thefts, one burglary, and 42 non-violent

Comments:

Isn't this is what America is all about? Put the screws to the other guy. Then again, he must be doing a bang-up job in that fancy little town, seeing how there's no crime. The sky-high cost of living and the consequent very low poverty rate of the residents, of course, has nothing at all to do with the lack of crime.

Hey, now, support the badge! This guy puts his life on the line every day for the people paying his salary and bennies. Ingrates. His crime rate is lower than NYC’s. Give credit where it’s due. Probably worth twice that on the open market.

That’s one po po per citizen. Seems high. Our little town of 800 had one town cop supported by the county Sheriff and deputies. I say had as he died in a single car accident a few weeks ago. Our crime rate is still pretty much zero.

It can be argued that the Chief is worth that compensation using the extremely low crime rate as proof. One fact omitted is the percentage of blacks living in his jurisdiction since that number is a proven direct factor in crime rates. Not a racist factor, just politically incorrect truth.

President Joe Biden's administration for the first time Tuesday allowed journalists inside its main border detention facility for migrant children, after weeks of shutting the media out and releasing their own photos. The tour revealed a severely overcrowded tent structure where more than 4,000 migrants, including children and families, were crammed into pods and the youngest kept in a large play pen with mats on the floor for sleeping. Border guards say 14 per cent—one in seven—of the migrant children have tested positive for COVID and photos also show detainees being treated for lice, amid fears of an outbreak.
