Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton threatened to sue the City of Austin Wednesday over the city’s continuation of a mask mandate. Governor Abbott removed the statewide mask mandate last week and his order went into effect Wednesday. Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Travis County Judge Andy Brown are keeping a mask mandate in effect until April 15 to “avoid another surge of cases.” I assume that the mayor and county judge (county CEO, not a judicial office) are concerned that newly free-to-be maskless Texans will throw caution to the wind. On Thursday, a spokesperson for Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) told CNN and National Review that the moderate Democrat who has shown true fortitude in standing up to the radicals in his party will not be holding his own on one of President Joe Biden’s worst nominees. Manchin will support the nomination of Attorney General Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.) for secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
This makes Becerra’s confirmation virtually certain, and that is a crying shame for America, on many levels.

The engineer died in his hometown of Duizel last weekend, his family has announced. No cause of death was given.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden held out a promise of returning to normalcy amid the COVID-19 pandemic that perfectly encapsulates the depressing nature of his presidency. After meandering and dead boring remarks about the toll of COVID-19, the existence of drive-in vaccine centers, and the progress Biden’s administration has made in the past 50 days, the president got to the part of his speech that was clearly intended to be uplifting.

Tonight, Joe Biden gave his first primetime address, and I could probably spend an entire article just riffing on his appearance. The man is not well, and that was once again obvious tonight. If one ever needed a visual for what being half-dead looks like, you got that in spades from this speech. Biden stood behind his podium, often slumped over, squinting to read his teleprompter’s massive font. He’s getting worse, and it’s a sad scene.
Regardless, there was also some semblance of substance to address regarding what he said. At one point, the president appeared to levy a fresh threat to re-lockdown the country if you don’t follow his rules.

The New York state assembly has authorized its judiciary committee to start an “impeachment investigation” into sexual misconduct allegations brought by six women against Andrew Cuomo.

Judge Peter Cahill granted a motion preventing the death of convicted felon George Floyd from being likened to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ during the Derek Chauvin murder trial striking a major blow to Black Lives Matter activists who had hoped to paint Floyd as a martyred holy figure.
The judge was presented with the following motion on Monday:
“The Defendant moves the Court for an Order precluding any expert from likening the death of George Floyd to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the ground that such analogy is prejudicial.”

The U.S. House of Representatives passed universal background check gun control Thursday, criminalizing private gun sales conducted apart from an FBI background check.
The legislation, H.R. 8, sponsored by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA), passed by a vote of 227 to 203.
H.R. 8 would expand retail point-of-sale background checks so as to cover private points-of-sale. This will criminalize an individual who sells a 5-shot revolver to a lifelong neighbor, unless that neighbor first undergoes a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) check, conducted by the FBI.

An influx of unaccompanied migrant children awaiting shelter at the southern border has raised serious humanitarian concerns as federal health officials struggle to find space for them in Department of Health and Human Services shelters.
A record number of them are being held at adult detention cells beyond the legal limit of 72 hours. Nearly 3500 minors are waiting at border patrol stations, spending an average of 107 hours inside the steel and concrete cells built for adults, Washington Post reported.

The answer to that question (based purely on my best guess) is plainly found in the wording of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution (assuming that document still counts for anything). Specifically, the answer is found in section 2, of the Amendment. The Democrats' $1.9 trillion stimulus bill is a monster of public spending with the prime aim of rewarding political cronies. Free-spending blue cities and states get bailouts, along with unions with mismanaged gold-plated pensions for their members. The losers, of course, are the savers and taxpayers. That's because it won't be long before Argentina-style inflation and Europe-style taxes kick in to pay for these benefits to leftists.

CBS obtained data from health departments in over two dozen states that shows “a 7% drop in births in December—nine months after the first lockdowns began.”

Variously marketed as a “pandemic relief bill,” an “economic stimulus package,” and the “American Rescue Plan,” it is largely a wealth transfer from well-managed and prosperous red states to incompetently managed blue states. Eli Lilly & Co says its combination antibody therapy is effective at treating mild to moderate cases of COVID-19.
The treatment, a mixture of drugs bamlanivimab and etesevimab, was developed by Indianapolis-based Lilly and the Canadian company AbCellera.
It recognizes the virus once a person is infected and attaches to it, preventing the pathogen from entering human cells, and therefore neutralizing it.
In trial data released on Wednesday, Eli Lilly said the combination reduced the risk of hospitalization and death by 87 percent compared to a placebo.
The results are an improvement of an earlier study of the combination, which reduced the risk of hospitalization and death by 70 percent.
