The Washington Post is reporting that DOGE fired thousands of government employees over the weekend, many of whom were on probationary status often reserved for new hires.
Many federal government employees were dismissed over the holiday weekend as managers confronted a Trump administration demand to fire workers by Tuesday. In group texts and in online forums, they dubbed the error-ridden run of firings the “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.”
The firings targeted new hires on probation, who have fewer protections than permanent employees, and swept up people with years of service who had recently transferred between agencies, as well as military veterans and people with disabilities

DOGE fired no one. The President or his cabinet members fired them, based on the advice of DOGE.
It's a good thing.

Look at the bright side. Many of them had a cushy, well paying job with great benefits for a number of years.
A lot of people never even get that.
The country is broke. There is no money for unnecessary jobs.

DOGE didn't fire them. The Agencies that were audited, fired them. The ones RIF'd were fluff workers. Roughly 5% have been let go. Have you noticed any difference in the running of the Government? I haven't. At least another 48% of the work force must go. Then let's see if that makes a difference.

Have to make sure they add veterans and disabled workers. It's extra sad in those cases, don't you know.

Just read a letter to the editor in a newspaper from where I used to live. A young lady was distraught because she had been recently hired by the USFS, but her job has been eliminated by DOGE. Welcome to the real world.

If you look back at the monthly job creation numbers under Biden you will see around 60% of the new jobs were government jobs while construction and manufacturing jobs were about 15% total. Time to reverse that.

"The error-ridden run of firings" is long overdue. Thank you, President Trump. We know you have a lot more firings to do, and we thank you, in advance, for those too. I'm still waiting for an answer about why congress critters did none of what the President is doing. They control the purse strings. Are they about to produce a CR that's business as usual? Are we expected to just live with it because of the debt or whatever foolish rules they've set up to rob us blind and ruin us by this excessive spending they've been doing? Are we to believe they will fix it later?

Thanks #1, you are 100% correct. Elon/DOGE did not fire anyone. They can make recommendations but the decision came from the Trump Administration. I HATE when journalists get this incorrect, it drives me crazy.

The best part about the firings is that they were new hires all hired to be deep staters and dei hires in the last 2 years of the biden administration. They were hired to pad and gum up the system instead of being hired to work.

Biden hired those people for the sole purpose of making employment numbers look more favorable for his administration.

Good start, but they do have alternative career options available:
"Learn to code."
-Joe Biden.
"Build solar panels."
-John Kerry

So thousands of workers, probably 'working' from home, will now have to go out and actually find a legitimate job? I'm loving it.

The first year is very stressful as a government employee. No matter how good a job you do, you can be fired without cause. So if the boss doesn't like your choice of shirts, your religion, your brand of car or that you have an annoying accent, he can boot you and you have no recourse. Meanwhile the fat lazy ones who have been there for decades are safe in their hideout rooms, surfing the net or napping.

This is truly glorious to watch as the bloated, arrogant federal employment numbers shrink. I imagine others are hearing lots more stories about waste and graft from federally-employed friends like I am. They told me things once they retired but now they really can speak freely. It’s a wonder our nation has survived.

Breaking this down: DOGE made recommendations. Agency managers than implemented the decision in the most malicious manner possible. Then they called their useful idiots and fellow travelers in the press and emphasized the part about the disabled and the veterans and the "errors" (that they themselves made). Since the disabled and veterans have protections (extra points) they could have been identified and their dismissal queried. And I am sure MSNBC and CNN will make forcefully make the "women, children, disabled, veterans hurt worse" theme over and over and over....

#1 is exactly right. Sexton is propagating the Leftist Washington Post propaganda that the unelected, illegal Must DOGE team is firing people. They are not, nor are the illegal. The Leftist media in this country is 1/2 the problem we have.
