California’s Next Crime Wave — Fuel Theft

On Sept. 27, an Inland Empire resident drove away from her job at an area hospital when her pickup truck puttered to a stop. An investigation showed her tank had been drilled and emptied. A Valero Station in Fremont lost tens of thousands of gallons of diesel to thieves using a device to bypass pump security and transfer fuel into a specially configured pickup truck on July 10. On July 2, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office charged two men with an alleged fuel theft scheme involving $90,000.00 in diesel fuel thefts. On March 1, East Bay law enforcement reported a “rash of destructive gas thefts by drilling gas tanks.”

Whoa Tens of thousands of gallon using a specially configured pick up truck? Must have been the largest pick up truck anyone has ever seen, How many loads did it take? I believe the semi trucks who haul gasoline and diesel can hold up to 16,800 gallons, but that aint no pick up truck. And they did this in one day.?

Diesel weighs about 7 pounds/gallon. That "pickup truck" must have made multiple trips, or have a solid suspension.

No duh. I just got home from California. Fun to visit but definitely wouldn't want to live there. Gas there is over $4 per gallon, $5 in some places. It's under $3 here in Virginia. And if high gas itaxes to minimize driving and save the planet was the goal, the Rats have failed miserably. Traffic in LA is about the worst I have seen anywhere and smog is still noticeable in places.

Drilling gas tanks made possible by the advancement of a certain tool technology: battery powered power tools. Technological progress can be both a blessing and a curse. We didn't have cyber-criminals before PC's.

^A lot of modern gas tanks aren't even steel. Some grade of polyethylene. Would be easy to tap. Transport of the stolen fuel would be the issue.

Here in northern Cal's timberland/mountain area I'm paying $4.59 a gallon for regular...at the Safeway station. That is in a town of 5,000 population, which is a half-hour drive south of the homestead. However, in the small village fifteen minutes north, the only gas station charges $5.19. Safeway offers gas points earned buying groceries. When you've have a certain amount of points, you receive 50 cents off a gallon, twenty gallons max. At the end of every month we fill four five-gallon gas cans. In the summer they fuel TK's tractor and my John Deere riding mower...with cart. In the winter we often top off our cars, and also need gas for our guest cabin generator as I often stop there on walks with our German Shepherd, Blackjack. We went total solar in 2017, using a re-fi to pay for the lithium batteries and the shed to protect them, trenching for the electrical lines between the panels and the shed, and the labor. (My re-fi was at 2.78%...yeah!) We had previously had solar panels alone, "sharing" power with PG&E for seven years. We try to be as self-sufficient and make as few "targeted" trips into town as possible. I'm a native and TK's been here since 1964 when he landed at Camp Penalton from Chicago. The Left will not prevail. We'll ride out the last years of craziness in California until MAGA hits our shores. Make California Golden Again.

23andMe, born from the techno-optimism of the Human Genome Project, revolutionized direct-to-consumer genetic testing. But with its valuation now in freefall, mounting layoffs and its board resigning en masse, 23andMe’s imminent failure raises a critical question: What will happen to the sensitive genetic data of its 15 million customers? This is not just 23andMe’s reckoning; it’s a warning for the customers of the entire direct-to-customer endeavor, which has long struggled to balance rapid innovation and profits with robust consumer protections. Your DNA — an immutable blueprint of your identity — could be sold, shared with unknown entities or exploited for targeted advertising and product development without your consent.

Iran appears determined to destabilize Jordan, and is thus trying to drag the kingdom into its regional maelstrom by manipulating Jordanian national and terrorist substate entities to do its bidding. The Islamist threat to the stability of the Kingdom has greatly increased with the fall of its neighbor Syria into the hands of the Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, a Sunni Islamist group committed to radicalizing the Levant, which includes Jordan. The Israeli Air Force (IAF), in a recent airstrike, destroyed three cross-border smuggling routes from Syria to Lebanon, which were being used by Iran to bring ship weapons to still-functioning Hezbollah terrorist cells.

The Catholic Church was founded by a Jew (Jesus) Who inherited the kingship of Israel, and its first pope Peter was a Jew, but the man who is unfortunately occupying the chair of Peter now is so anti-Israel that one of this year’s Vatican Nativities is a Palestinian propaganda piece. Despite the fact that the Muslim so-called Palestinians aggressively persecute Christians and want to wipe Israel off the map, woke Pope Francis has continually expended all of his empathy for Gaza while condemning Israel. If your third-grader is competing in the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee, good news: “W-O-M-Y-N” is now an acceptable spelling of “women.” (What a time to be alive!) In fact, “W-O-M-Y-N” is explicitly listed on the National Spelling Bee’s list of 50 “study words” that’s distributed to third-graders. Nobody knows when spoken language began, but written language developed independently in Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, and Mesoamerica. Presumably, shortly after the emergence of writing, was the emergence of the crotchety, ornery, spinster schoolteacher who’d shame you before the class when you misspelled a word.
