The Illinois Supreme Court overturned Jussie Smollett's hate crime hoax conviction Thursday. "Today we resolve a question about the State’s responsibility to honor the agreements it makes with defendants," the court wrote in documents obtained by Fox News Digital. "Specifically, we address whether a dismissal of a case by nolle prosequi allows the State to bring a second prosecution when the dismissal was entered as part of an agreement with the defendant and the defendant has performed his part of the bargain.

Michigan Democratic Rep. Debbie Dingell surprised CNN’s Jake Tapper by insisting that former President Trump has shared plans to put people into internment camps if he’s re-elected. Dingell was asked by "The Lead" host on Monday how she felt about various Arab American Michigan voters protesting President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, while other Muslim leaders recently endorsed Trump at a rally.
Although she acknowledged the Muslim and Arab American community is not a monolithic voting bloc, Dingell argued they need to be told Trump would only be harmful to them.

Less than two weeks before Election Day, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee is calling on the U.S. attorney general to appoint a special counsel to investigate former President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., who is likely to take over as chair of the Oversight Committee if Democrats win the House in November, accused Kushner of possibly violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) through his finance work after leaving the White House.

The Biden-Harris administration now admits that an Afghan national accused of plotting an Election Day terror attack did not undergo certain vetting they previously claimed he passed.
Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, was never vetted or approved by the State Department for special immigrant (SIV) status, though officials from other agencies had claimed he cleared that stringent process.
Additionally, sources familiar with the investigation tell Fox News that Tawhedi was not well known to the U.S. government when the administration facilitated his departure to the states, despite his security role with the CIA in Afghanistan.

Hurricane Helene’s path of destruction across the southern U.S. affected thousands of people, including golf legend John Daly. Daly said Wednesday he lost his Clearwater, Florida, home in the "devastating" storm. "I’m just glad everyone is healthy, that’s the main thing," he told the PGA Tour’s website. "You live in Florida, you have to understand that’s going to happen, but not like this. I didn’t think it would be this bad." He added that nearly a half-dozen other homes belonging to his friends and family were also destroyed in the storm.

Several popular beaches along the Maryland and Delaware coast were closed to swimming after medical waste, including needles, washed ashore last week. Swimming was prohibited at beaches that included Ocean City, Maryland, and Fenwick Island, Delaware, and both state and federal beaches on Assateague Island, which is part of Maryland and Virginia.
In a social media post, the Town of Ocean City said last Sunday that its emergency services team is actively addressing the recent discovery of medical waste that washed onto the beach.

About a quarter of British households are so worried about their electricity bills they are considering spending next heating season without heat or hot water, a survey by Citizens Advice has suggested.
The concern follows plans by the national electricity market regulator to raise the cap on bills by another 9.2%, equal to 150 pounds or $195. The Citizens Advice report said the percentage of those worried about the affordability of their electricity was substantially higher among households with children, where the percentage was 31%, and low-income households, where 39% were worried about the coming heating season.

The U.S. Secret Service has hinted it was not involved in the break-in of a hair salon during a Kamala Harris campaign event in Massachusetts late last month. The allegations of Secret Service involvement arose after the salon’s owner, Alicia Powers, alleged that agents put duct tape over her security cameras and broke into her building by picking the lock. Security camera footage shows an individual dressed like a Secret Service agent approaching the door with a roll of tape and observing the locked door and camera before grabbing a nearby chair to put tape over the camera.

Vice President Kamala Harris caused a wave of criticism on social media after appearing to suddenly use a southern accent during a speech in Atlanta. "You all helped us win in 2020 and we gonna do it again in 2024," Harris, who is from California, told Atlanta rally goers while seemingly debuting the new accent. The accent immediately caught the attention of critics on social media, who accused the presumptive Democratic nominee of pandering to her audience.
