The Democratic Party needs to get competitive with Republicans in battleground North Carolina to turn out more voters before Election Day, says a former political consultant from the Tar Heel State. (Snip) Mills, who worked on the direct mail team for the Democratic National Committee in 2004, identified two problems that Democrats need to address, quickly, to compete in the state: early voting and low African American voter turnout. "They [Republicans] seem to be on the right track right now. Democrats, on the other hand, need to boost their turnout. I mean, what we don't know is how people are

Former First Lady Michelle Obama hit the campaign trail for Vice President Harris in battleground Michigan on Saturday, blasting former President Trump and railing against what she cast as a double standard in the high-stakes presidential race. “I gotta ask myself: why on earth is this race even close? I lay awake at night wondering: what in the world is going on?” Obama told a raucous rally crowd in Kalamazoo, Mich. (Snip) Her searing remarks against the former president come as the polls show Harris and Trump neck-and-neck as Nov. 5 nears. Polling averages from Decision Desk HQ and The

Worried about Vice President Kamala Harris potentially facing a Republican-controlled Senate if she wins the White House, two Democratic strategists tell NewsNation senators are discussing an emergency plan to approve her Cabinet during a December Senate session. (Snip) To solve this issue for Democrats, strategists told NewsNation that the most extreme plan is for current Democratic President Joe Biden’s Cabinet to resign during his lame-duck Senate session. Biden would then appoint Harris’ picks, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer would then confirm the new Cabinet with his current 51 to 49 Senate. One source, however, conceded that this might not

The editor of the Los Angeles Times opinion section has resigned from her post after the newspaper’s owner prevented the editorial board from endorsing a candidate for president. Mariel Garza, editor of the illustrious newspaper’s editorials, resigned in protest of the decision by Patrick Soon-Shiong, owner of the Times, to block the editorial staff from endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I am resigning because I want to make it clear that I am not okay with us being silent,” Garza told the Columbia Journalism Review in a phone interview with her former colleague Sewell Chan. “In dangerous times, honest people

Veteran pollster Nate Silver said his “gut” right now is that former President Trump will win the election in less than two weeks, but he cautioned against putting faith in anyone’s gut feeling. Silver wrote in a guest essay published Wednesday by The New York Times that calling the race a 50-50 toss-up is the “only responsible forecast,” with polls showing the race as razor-tight in all seven key battleground states that are likely to determine the outcome. But, the 538 founder added, if people press him to give an answer on who is favored, he will say Trump. “My

AURORA, Colo. — Another retail closure is coming to a troubled intersection on E. Colfax Avenue in Aurora. The Walgreens store at Havana Street and E. Colfax Avenue will close next month. Walmart shuttered its Neighborhood Market store at the same intersection in June. (Snip) The company cited "increased regulatory and reimbursement pressures" as the reason why it's closing the 10501 E. Colfax Avenue location. However, Willmann doesn't believe that's the entire story. "I hate to say this, but I think it’s shoplifting," he said. The Walmart Neighborhood Market across the street has been closed for three months. The company

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are deadlocked in the latest national NBC News poll, with Trump bolstered by Republicans coming back home to support him after last month’s rough debate and a subsequent polling deficit, as well as by a favorable voter assessment of Trump’s term as president. These are among the findings of a new survey released three weeks before Election Day, which also shows Harris’ popularity declining compared to a month ago, after she got a big summertime boost; a massive gender gap between support for Harris and Trump; and voters viewing abortion as

The drownings of two Navy SEALs during a maritime intercept off the coast of Somalia were preventable, caused by a lack of proper training and unclear guidance on effective flotation, a Navy investigation found. During a night-time intercept of a ship carrying Iranian weapons to Yemen, Chief Special Warfare Operator Christopher Chambers and Naval Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Nathan Ingram fell into heavy seas while trying to board. Chambers, the Leading Petty Officer of the platoon, fell in from the side of the ship, while Ingram jumped into the water immediately to help. Loaded with gear for the intercept

One person was killed and 12 people remain trapped inside a Colorado gold mine after the elevator malfunctioned, causing “a severe danger” during a tour Thursday, sheriff officials said. The elevator inside the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine — a family-owned business that offers tours to the public — experienced a mechanical issue at 500 feet deep at around noon, Teller County Sheriff Jason Mikesell said during a press conference streamed by FOX21 News. One person died, and four people suffered minor injuries during the elevator issue, he added. Authorities have already rescued 11 people — including two children — from

Over the weekend I wrote about recently hints that the Harris campaign might be in trouble in Michigan, a swing state they need to win next month. One of the issues that has Democrats in the state feeling nervous is the ongoing Israeli-Hamas war. As one Lebanese activist told Reuters, Harris was going to lose a lot of votes over the Biden administration's stance. (Snip) “I personally don’t know anyone who would vote for Harris,” said Imam Hassan Qazwini, who founded the Islamic Institute of America in Dearborn Heights and said that he planned to vote third party this year

The swing state of Pennsylvania’s voter registration system will be closed on the night of former President Donald Trump’s return rally in Butler, the site of the July 13 assassination attempt against him. The Republican nominee announced Sept. 25 that he is holding another rally in Butler on Oct. 5, just three months after a gunman shot the former president at a rally there, wounding him in the ear. “This website will undergo scheduled system maintenance and be unavailable Saturday, October 5th 10 p.m. until October 6th 4 a.m,” the Pennsylvania Voter Registration website says. “We thank you for your
