Emergency Plan B: “I’m thinking about pagers”

Original Article

I had not thought about pagers much (or at all) until the Hezbollah pagers blew up recently. [Snip] Anyway, that whole thing that happened in Lebanon with the pagers and walkie-talkies should be a wake-up call to our readership and listeners that we need a Plan B. Our grid could go down, and our systems could go down, which is why I’m thinking about pagers. However, we still need to rely on the pager company. As for satellite phones, the problem is they’re very expensive. So, my parting shot is that we should not kid ourselves, we are at risk also.

Comments:

Professor Jacobson’s podcast (available at the LI website) provides more extensive information about “what went down in Lebanon,” is considering writing a blog post about this subject, and is requesting reader input.

Well, anything that depends on internet, cell phone or even satellite com is vulnerable. An EMT takes them all out, or at least any receiver. You want to be old-school cool, get yourself a tube shortwave and ham receiver (Drake, Hallicrafters, or actually any 40's radio that received short wave - Zenith, Grundig, whatever) and a good antenna. But keep the antenna disconnected from your 'emergency' radio. You want to go serious, get a tube transmitter. Tube sets (receiver or transmitter) are much, much less susceptible to EMT than modern sets.

My thoughts after the pager explosions included wondering what our government could do with our cell phones or home computers. No, not blow them up but use them passively to assist with any number of nefarious activities. For example, if you're not liked by the Party (that day is coming) you may find child porn on your device and be under arrest soon thereafter.

I've always insisted on hard copies of photographs. If you store them in a computer, what happens when/if we no longer have them. Yeah I have some online but the ones that are important, I still get them developed and save them.

It's a good idea to look into Walkie Talkies available these days. They're not like the cheapie toy type from Radio Shack in the 1980's. Especially good for connecting extended family living close by. These will work even after the cell towers go down.

It’s a shame what’s going on in Springfield, Ohio. [Snip] They’re eating dogs. They’re eating cats. [Snip] It’s been thoroughly debunked, but since when does truth matter when you have the backing of the triumvirate of political treachery: Trump, his running mate and Ohio’s Republican senator, J.D. Vance, and Republican Bernie Moreno, who is trying to unseat Ohio’s other senator, Democrat Sherrod Brown. [Snip] In MAGA-land, focusing targets on brown-skinned immigrants can be a dangerous game. Archbishop Viganò: The silence of bishops

What scandalizes and fills us with horror is not as much the series of monomaniacal provocations of Bergoglio, who has now proven his rebellious and apostatic nature, so much as the cowardice of the entire Episcopate. I do not understand how a Successor of the Apostles can tolerate the open apostasy from the Faith of the one who presents himself as the head of the Church, as if it were the ravings of a deranged person... [Snip]. I consider with horror what Our Lord will impute to them when they will present themselves before Him and have to account for their silence before the systematic destruction of the Church.

“I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6) Bergoglio, with his ungodly statements addressed to young people in Singapore that “all religions are a path to God,” offends the Majesty of God, betrays Divine Revelation, tramples on the principal Mysteries of our Faith and nullifies the redeeming Sacrifice of the Son of God, Our Lord Jesus Christ. His lying words are particularly insidious because they are addressed to the new generations, whom Bergoglio deceives into believing that it is possible to be saved without recognizing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Only Savior,
President Trump Won the Debate with Harris 9 replies

It is not surprising that there was a surge of punditry opinions arguing that Kamala Harris won the September 10 debate with Donald Trump. [Snip] Many conservative analysts have joined in and agreed that Trump lost the debate. From the standpoint of debate practice, Trump performed one of his most successful debates and arguably won the debate. [Snip] The debate format is unusual because each candidate had an option to make a one-minute rebuttal at any point during the debate. Trump used this option masterfully to have the last word on most of the major controversies in the debate.

The Kabuki-worthy facial expressions modeled by Kamala Harris during Tuesday’s presidential debate had many viewers alternately perplexed and rolling in the aisles as the Democratic nominee sought to steal ABC News’ split screen from former President Donald Trump. Now former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has revealed Kamala Harris received acting lessons ahead of the debate and was coached by Hollywood advisers. Kamala’s goal? To “act her way through this election,” she said. “That’s why she has locked herself in a hotel room, taking extreme acting lessons,” Gabbard said in a Fox News interview just ahead of Tuesday’s debate.

Yes, they discussed policy. Sort of. But former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris also had plenty to say about each other during their debate Tuesday night. The presidential debate didn’t generate an immortal line--think Lloyd Bentsen to Dan Quayle in 1988: “Senator, you are no Jack Kennedy”--though Trump did echo Ronald Reagan’s dismissive reply to Jimmy Carter in 1980, “There you go again.” Still, the first meeting between the Republican and Democratic candidates did have its spicy and blunt moments.

Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted CNN’s invitation to debate Donald Trump for a second time ahead of the November election — despite the latter’s insistence that he doesn’t see a “need” to face-off again. “The American people deserve another opportunity to see Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debate before they cast their ballots,” Harris-Walz campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said Saturday. “It would be unprecedented in modern history for there to just be one general election debate. Debates offer a unique chance for voters to see the candidates side by side and take stock of their competing visions for America.
