Watching the media/left-wing euphoria on national and state-level polling numbers since Democrat elites forced Joe Biden out of the presidential race and installed Kamala Harris in his place has been an exercise in frustration mixed with sprinklings of hilarity along the way. But not long after the Democrat National Convention, reality soon intruded and the Harris-Walz political honeymoon fizzled to some extent, with GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump edging her out earlier this month in a Siena/New York Times national poll, as we previously reported. This is something that had not been expected considering the six weeks of fawning coverage she received.

We Republicans have to not just win the Senate but win the Senate beyond the margin of Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins. If we have less than 53 Republicans in our coalition, it’s these two who are going to be running things and Mitch McConnell won’t be there to crack the whip and impose his iron discipline. But can we do it? We currently have 49 seats out of 100, but we have a pretty good map this year. That would normally mean that we’re well-positioned to win. Yet, we Republicans have a disadvantage. We’re Republicans, and far too often, we blow it.

The Secret Service’s failures to secure Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pa., on July 13 were extensive and constituted one of the most consequential security debacles in U.S. history. Chief among them was law enforcement’s apparent choice to leave the rooftop of the American Glass Research (AGR) building unguarded, allegedly because of heat, before gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks

Donald Trump was golfing in West Palm Beach, Florida, when Ryan Wesley Routh waited along the green, hoping to assassinate the former president and record it. He left a GoPro and an AK-style rifle mounted with a scope on the scene. He was later apprehended by local police, but not before scurrying when Secret Service agents opened fire on him; they saw the barrel from his gun through the shrubbery. Ryan Wesley Routh has a criminal record that spans the Himalayas. We’re waiting to see if he was on the radar for any federal law enforcement agencies vis-à-vis recent threats:

The alleged would-be assassin arrested for targeting Donald Trump while he golfed in Florida may have been given inside information about the former president’s schedule, according to an ex-FBI official who called the possibility “scary.” Chris Swecker, a retired FBI assistant director, told Newsweek that the feds and other law enforcement will be probing how the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, allegedly appeared to know Trump would be at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Sunday. “The biggest question to answer is: ‘How did the would-be assassin know to be at that location at that time?'” said Swecker, who worked on FBI criminal investigations.

Presidential candidate Kamala Harris sat down for an interview late last week. It was the equivalent of a Friday news dump, done when most of the country was to busy otherwise to pay attention. But it did serve a purpose: Her campaign can say she’s done a solo interview, even if she, as is her practice, said nothing of substance. The interview was with Brian Taff, news anchor at ABC’s Philadelphia affiliate. He asked five questions and the exclusive affair lasted all of 11 minutes. When the vice president asked if she had “one or two specific things” in mind

As last week’s debate made clear, Kamala Harris’s media enablers have given Harris the green light to lie in the most flagrant ways about the most significant of issues. Even if Donald Trump were adept at giving concise answers, which he is not, he would have had no chance to expose Harris’s mendacity. In the long run, the most damaging of issues deal with the weaponization of justice. As vice presidential candidate, Sen. J. D. Vance is perfectly positioned to address this phenomenon. He is precise in his language; quick on his feet, and, with a “J.D.” (hmmm!) from Yale, inarguably well credentialed to take on the task

As The Gateway Pundit reported, a second attempt was made on President Trump’s life, just two months after he came within a centimeter of being killed in Butler, Pennsylvania by a Democrat donor named Thomas Crooks. Shots were fired at the 45th president’s golf club in West Palm Beach on Sunday afternoon at roughly 1:30 pm as he was playing golf with real estate investor Steve Witkoff. The shooter, later identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, shoved the muzzle of his rifle through the fence line at the golf course before Secret Service agents opened fire on him.

The near-nonstop comparing of Donald Trump, a former president of the United States, to Adolf Hitler has almost become a mainstream media cliche. So should anyone really be shocked someone else has again decided that Trump should take a bullet, just nine weeks after he was shot in the ear? The answer, of course, is no. When the news came that another “assassination attempt” possibly had taken place against Trump, this time as he unwound from his hectic campaign schedule with a round of golf in Florida, it was disappointing to say the least. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, defines his campaign against Israel as being won as much through economics and psychological coercion as through victories on the battlefield. And nearly a year into the Jewish state’s war with Hamas, Iran’s military proxy in the Gaza Strip, Khamenei’s strategy appears to be advancing—with an assist from the U.S. airline industry. For most of the past year, none of the three major American carriers—United Airlines, American Airlines, or Delta—have flown to Israel, citing the Gaza war and the security threats posed by Tehran and its military allies. And none of these airlines have offered definitive time frames for when their flights might resume.

There are several great issues on which the presidential election (and Congressional elections, too) should turn. One is our out of control national debt, which promises to first hamstring our government, then bankrupt us. But no one is talking about it. Another is America’s deteriorating military readiness. The Europeans are scrambling to defend themselves against possible Russian attack; that in itself is a good thing. But they are doing it in large part because they believe that we no longer have the level of readiness needed to come to their aid. Trump hints at this issue occasionally, but that is about it.
