~Last week, à propos America's presently presidentless republic, I remarked:
Meanwhile, the Ukrainians say Moscow is 'threatening the world with nuclear catastrophe'. Given that an American client state has spent the last month bombing Russia daily, it would be unusual if they were not. But that's no reason to divert the dead husk from another week at his beach house in Delaware.
To which Roy Koczela responds: Steyn goes full-on Putinist, literally more submissive to the Kremlin than the Kremlin itself.

~LITERAL DIVERSITY STABBING OF THE DAY: On Friday a "knifeman", as they now say, fatally stabbed three people and badly wounded eight others in the German town of Solingen. The police have arrested a - go on, take a wild guess - yes, a 26-year-old Muslim from Syria who is reported to have yelled - time for another wild guess - bingo, "Allahu Akbar!"

~No, I'm not going to analyse the alleged "nominee"'s speech. This précis of what's going on is hard to beat:
So the US Department of Justice lost the case, but two months later, and on the same day, both defendants are dead anyway, along with one of their victorious lawyers. "In the course of forty-eight hours, I can't process what has happened," says their surviving attorney, Gary Lindberg, "but both of our clients, as well as Chris and his wife, are gone."

~The eminent barrister (and later Lord Chancellor) F E Smith was famously asked by an irritated judge: "Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?" To which he replied: "No, my Lord, I am trying to conceal it." If you have a corrupt revenue agency, corrupt law enforcement and corrupt courts, what else do you need? Much of America is institutionally evil, and so-called conservative media are just stringing along for the ride.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said recent earthquakes and a coming eclipse are “strong signs” from God that America needs to “repent,” shortly after tremors shook the New York City region Friday.
“God is sending America strong signs to tell us to repent. Earthquakes and eclipses and many more things to come. I pray that our country listens,” Greene said Friday in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Following The Mark Steyn Caribbean Cruise, I am now on terra firma - as are Trump's poll numbers, to a degree not seen either in 2020 or 2016. On the other hand, given the Deep State thumb on the scale in both 2016 ("Crossfire Hurricane") and 2020 (fifty-seven heads of the "intelligence community" assure us that Hunter Biden's laptop is "Russian disinformation"), no prudent person would bet on a free and fair election in November - especially after yesterday's Supreme Court intervention. As I always say: There's no point having the greatest constitution in the world if you've got the crappiest election system in the world.

Most coverage of Friday's verdict from a Manhattan courthouse has focused on the $350 million plus that rogue judge Arthur F Engoron has demanded Trump cough up - for a "crime" which has no known victims and no identifiable proceeds. Confiscating (with interest) close to half-a-billion dollars for no good reason is certainly unusual, even by the standards of US "justice".

So a German couple decide to travel to Paris for a pre-Christmas break. The City of Light and all that, right? Don't worry, they didn't go to any of those dangerous banlieues. Instead, they were a few yards from the Eiffel Tower strolling the Quai de Grenelle when a man attacked them shouting - go on, take a wild guess - yes, "Allahu akbar!"

More than 180,000 people across France, including 100,000 in Paris, marched peacefully on Sunday to protest against rising antisemitism in the wake of Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza.
The interior ministry said at least 182,000 people marched in several in French cities in response to the call launched by the leaders of the parliament’s upper and lower houses. No major incident has been reported, it said.

In our initial report on this new war yesterday, we published a video showing a terrified young lady being abducted by Hamas "soldiers" from an Israeli music festival. She was delivered to Gaza. This is the condition she arrived in:
"Allahu Akbar!" Because Allah is truly great, isn't he? He let us target the Jewess, and then strip her and beat her and rape her. And then, when we drive what's left to the dar al-Islam, we all get to dance in the streets and desecrate her corpse. Boy, what a generous guy that Allah is!

Students across France returned to school on Monday amid ongoing tensions between the federal government and Muslims over a recent decision to bar girls in public schools from wearing abayas, loose-fitting cloak-like garments that cover every part of the body except the face.
Of the nearly 12 million students across the country, nearly 300 girls wore the long Islamic garment and were asked to change into something else. The vast majority complied and were allowed to return to class, however, 67 did not and were subsequently sent home.

I was listening to John Derbyshire's long-running Radio Derb the other day, and was rather touched to find myself with a bit part in the opening segment:
I'll come back to the bit Derb referenced later in the week, but first, to return the compliment, I was very struck by an aside he had about halfway through the show re India becoming the fourth nation to make a "soft landing" on the moon (by "soft", they mean the spacecraft doesn't get totaled on impact). The cost of the Chandrayaan-3 mission was about US$75 million, which, as John pointed out, is less than the cost of the Barbie movie.
Comments:
While the United States urges Israel to embrace "restraint" after hostages were shot in the back of the head, we applaud our proxy efforts to escalate conflict with Russia. War mongers such as Mark Levin and Lindsay Graham constantly call for beefing up the military. Steyn notes that our military culture needs a shake up, not more money
