More than 180,000 people across France
march against soaring antisemitism amid
the Israel-Hamas war

More than 180,000 people across France, including 100,000 in Paris, marched peacefully on Sunday to protest against rising antisemitism in the wake of Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza. The interior ministry said at least 182,000 people marched in several in French cities in response to the call launched by the leaders of the parliament’s upper and lower houses. No major incident has been reported, it said.

Comments:

The United States' population is a bit more than five times that of France so this march is the equivalent of 900,000 people. We are constantly told that New York City has the most Jewish residents next to Israel. Why hasn't there yet been a massive show of support there for Israel? One reason is that members of the French government, of all parties except the far left, called for a show of support. Why is that not happening here?

OP, that was my reaction to this article! It is not only NYC but Florida and Texas have large Jewish communities. My Texas has huge membership of one of largest pro-Israel lobbying group in DC, Christian’s United For Israel - CUFI. I know because I donate to and work with my state group.

I have yet to see a news show ANYWHERE that tells we, the people, what the muslims actually do. Tell the people the violence they perpetrate. Women, stoned to death for getting raped, women getting killed for DARING to go out w/out a MALE, or without their PERMISSION. Girls genitals removed so they can never have sextual pleasure. Trans and gays thrown off buildings or imprisoned. Gouging out eyes and baking babies in ovens. cutting off women's breasts. Tell of the barbarity and savagery. Stop telling us just that THEY ARE BAD AND describe THEIR BARBARIC SAVAGERY. How abt that they want to KILL us. I am so done with us being polite and tolerating this nonsense. If the police had stopped the first protest this would not be an issue. Hamas and their protesters want to eliminate Israel and the west. How abt we tell them we will do unto them what they want to do to others.

Moi aussi, #5! I'm actually surprised that only 1% of the French population is Jewish...that seems a low estimate to me.

In our initial report on this new war yesterday, we published a video showing a terrified young lady being abducted by Hamas "soldiers" from an Israeli music festival. She was delivered to Gaza. This is the condition she arrived in: "Allahu Akbar!" Because Allah is truly great, isn't he? He let us target the Jewess, and then strip her and beat her and rape her. And then, when we drive what's left to the dar al-Islam, we all get to dance in the streets and desecrate her corpse. Boy, what a generous guy that Allah is!

Students across France returned to school on Monday amid ongoing tensions between the federal government and Muslims over a recent decision to bar girls in public schools from wearing abayas, loose-fitting cloak-like garments that cover every part of the body except the face. Of the nearly 12 million students across the country, nearly 300 girls wore the long Islamic garment and were asked to change into something else. The vast majority complied and were allowed to return to class, however, 67 did not and were subsequently sent home.

I was listening to John Derbyshire's long-running Radio Derb the other day, and was rather touched to find myself with a bit part in the opening segment: I'll come back to the bit Derb referenced later in the week, but first, to return the compliment, I was very struck by an aside he had about halfway through the show re India becoming the fourth nation to make a "soft landing" on the moon (by "soft", they mean the spacecraft doesn't get totaled on impact). The cost of the Chandrayaan-3 mission was about US$75 million, which, as John pointed out, is less than the cost of the Barbie movie.

France’s Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin slammed the Italian government this week, claiming Italy behaved as an “enemy country” of France after rejecting a migrant “taxi” that ended up docking in Toulon. Darmanin levelled the accusation against the Italian government during a session of the French parliament, claiming that the Italian government led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni behaved as an enemy of France for denying the migrant “taxi” NGO ship Ocean Viking access to a port in Italy.

The Utah Senate race between conservative Republican Sen. Mike Lee and Independent Evan McMullin has emerged as a potential wild card in the battle for the Senate. Recent polls show the race is close, with McMullin trailing Lee by only a few points in a state where Republican victories are usually all but guaranteed. Lee, a conservative who supported then-President Trump’s effort to challenge the 2020 election results on Jan. 6, is a star among many members of Utah’s Republican base, but his unpopularity among moderates and Democrats has driven his approval rating down to the low 40s.

An initial investigation into a massive fire at a homeless encampment beneath an underpass in downtown Los Angeles that shut down the Interstate 10 indefinitely has already determined arson was responsible. Downtown workers have since been told to stay home and telecommute or use public transport in lieu of getting into their cars with delays forecast to spike everywhere across the heavily car-dependent metropolis. California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday, “This fire occurred within the fence line … that it was arson and that it was done and set intentionally.” UPI reports detectives with CalFire are still working to determine who set the blaze which has closed the essential piece of infrastructure.

This is the shocking moment a group of brazen thieves looted an Amazon delivery truck while the helpless driver looked on. A group of approximately six thieves that looked to be young boys raided a large walk-in delivery truck after the driver left the door wide open. They frantically grabbed boxes as the female driver watched from a nearby sidewalk and did nothing. She appeared to be fed up with the robbers that snuck up on her while she delivered other packages in an apartment complex that is believed to be in Atlanta, Georgia. It is unclear exactly what was stolen from the truck and who the thieves were.

Pop star Pink says she will be giving away 2,000 banned books at two of her South Florida concerts this week in order to draw attention to the recent wave of censorship laws that impact American schools and libraries. The musician announced she is teaming up with PEN America to combat what the nonprofit calls a "book-banning crisis across the country." That means fans who attend Pink's Miami and Sunrise, Florida, shows on Tuesday and Wednesday will be given a copy of some of the books that have appeared on PEN America's Index of Banned Books — many of which refer to things like sexuality, gender, race, religion and more.

Drama unfolded in a Capitol hallway on Tuesday as one Republican lawmaker accused a colleague of delivering a “clean shot to the kidneys” as he passed by. U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) was speaking with a reporter when former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) walked by and evidently “elbowed” him in the back. The incident created a momentary exchange followed by a pursuit as Burchett chased McCarthy with NPR reporter Claudia Grisales in tow. The Tennessee congressman, who was one of eight Republicans who voted to remove McCarthy as speaker last month, spoke with CNN’s Manu Raju afterward, calling out his colleague for the “sucker punch” he delivered.
