A California baseball stadium featured in the Hollywood blockbuster “A League of Their Own” was destroyed by a fire late Thursday, officials said. The Jay Littleton Ballpark, in Ontario, California, went up in flames about 11:30 p.m. and is a “a total loss,” city spokesperson Dan Bell said. The cause of the fire is not known, but investigators are on scene, he said Friday, adding that the stadium’s grandstand was wooden and likely burned very quickly. A landmark from the 1930s up in smoke. Stadium was allowed to deteriorate and was occupied by ''unhoused persons''.

A shame. Engel Stadium in Chattanooga still stands. Beautiful old ballpark that my dad would take me to to watch the Cincinnati Reds play an exhibition game many years ago. They just filmed a movie about Jackie Robinson at the stadium. It's somewhat refurbished and OK now. I hope the security can keep the bums out.

Vehicles have been set ablaze after a violent fire broke out at a car manufacturing plant on August 24. Illinois fire crews were called to Rivian’s Normal plant for a reported vehicle fire Saturday night. A spokesperson for the fire department said there is an unspecified number of vehicles damaged by the incident. This is the second fire in four days to erupt on the Rivian plant. Witnesses outside the plant said they reportedly saw the fire as early as 9:50 pm. Normal Fire Department spokesperson Matt Swaney said the blaze was extinguished by midnight, but crews remained on the

In what may be a surprise blow to Democrats' chances of holding a key red state seat in the U.S. House, Alaska Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom announced Friday she is suspending her campaign for Congress. Dahlstrom was in what was essentially a three-way race with incumbent Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola and Republican Nick Begich III, who comes from a prominent political family in The Last Frontier. US job growth during much of the past year was significantly weaker than initially estimated, according to new data released Wednesday. The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ preliminary annual benchmark review of employment data suggests that there were 818,000 fewer jobs in March of this year than were initially reported. Every year, the BLS conducts a revision to the data from its monthly survey of businesses’ payrolls, then benchmarks the March employment level to those measured by the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages program. The preliminary data marks the largest downward revision since 2009 and shows that the labor market

Michigan Gov. We know that Kamala Harris is going to be focused on building up more affordable housing. We know that Kamala Harris has already delivered on making sure that health care is more accessible and affordable for Americans and will protect ObamaCare,” Whitmer, a co-chair of the Democrats’ campaign, said about criticism of the

A financial analyst I follow on Twitter/X, Robert Sterling, says everyone should calm down about Kamala’s grocery price controls idea. It’s actually worse than you think. Here’s his expectation from his Twitter column: People need to stop overreacting about Kamala’s plan to reduce food inflation, as if it would lead to communism, mass starvation, and the end of America. I worked in M&A in the food industry. Here’s a step-by-step summary of what would actually happen: 1. The government announces that grocery retailers aren’t allowed to raise prices. 2. Grocery stores, which operate on 1-2% net margins, can’t survive if

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis could see a big tax hike as part of Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey's nearly $1.9 billion budget proposal. Frey unveiled the budget on Wednesday which includes two bumps to the tax levy: 8.1% in 2025 and another 9.8% in 2026. (Snip) Frey said tough decisions had to be made to get down to an 8% increase. Public works employees recently signed a new contract boosting their pay by nearly 30%, and the police department has a new deal increasing pay by about 20%. A year into Barack Obama’s presidency, Sarah Palin, a former Alaska governor and John McCain’s 2008 running mate, mockingly asked a Tea Party gathering a question: “How’s that hopey, changey stuff working out?” The roomful of conservatives howled with laughter because by then, Obama’s dreamy campaign motto of “Hope and Change” had been replaced by hard policy lurches to the far left. The Palin question is a piece of history 2024 voters should keep in mind as they assess Kamala Harris. The parallels between then and now are striking.
