The U.S. military intercepted several Russian and Chinese bombers in international airspace near the coast of Alaska Wednesday.
Two Russian Tu-95s and two Chinese H-6s entered what is known as the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone, North American Aerospace Defense Command said in a statement Wednesday night.
The aircraft were "detected, tracked and intercepted," NORAD said. They remained in the Alaska ADIZ and did not enter U.S. airspace.

Nine Just Stop Oil activists were arrested Wednesday near London's Heathrow Airport on suspicion of conspiring to interfere with key national infrastructure.

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has released graphic bodycam footage taken on a rooftop after the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The footage, shared by Mr. Grassley in a July 23 social media post, shows a conversation between local law enforcement and a Secret Service agent.

In the wake of President Joe Biden’s not-so-surprising decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, two big questions still loom: Did the big media intentionally underplay his growing mental and physical issues? And should Biden be allowed to finish out his term? A majority of voters answer with a resounding “yes” to the first, and half say “yes” to the second, according to July’s I&I/TIPP Poll.
The national online I&I/TIPP Poll queried 1,389 registered voters from June 26-28, a period that included Biden’s disastrous debate performance, but just before a chorus of both the media and establishment Democrats began to call for him to resign.

Black Lives Matter (BLM) issued a statement calling for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to hold a “virtual snap primary” and criticized the “anointing” of Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential candidate, citing concerns about where she stands on certain issues.
In a statement on Tuesday, the group admitted that while President Joe Biden had not been their “preferred candidate,” they could not “ignore the troubling actions of the Democratic Party,” and called for the DNC to hold a primary throughout the United States before the Democratic National Convention took place in August.

I turned 60 today, and my first awareness of politics was in 1972, during the Nixon-McGovern campaign. My parents were supporters of McGovern, and I collected donations (very little) and passed out bumper stickers for the Democrat.
So, in a sense, I have followed politics now for 52 years and studied politics in college and grad school. My educational focus wasn't contemporary American politics--I studied political philosophy--but I certainly have been an avid follower of our current political scene.

Thirty-two hours later, less than a day and a half, the party’s top leadership, plus a majority of the nearly 4,000 Democratic convention delegates, had committed to support Harris. By late Monday night, the Harris campaign posted a message headlined, “Statement from Vice President Kamala Harris on Becoming the Presumptive Democratic Nominee for President.”
