For some Republicans, the president’s decision not to seek a second term isn’t enough: They want him to resign, too. That’s tough to take seriously. When President Joe Biden announced that he was ending his re-election bid, he specifically referenced his eagerness to do the job he was elected to do for the next six months. “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” the Democratic incumbent said in a written statement.

The same people who insisted Biden was running circles around everyone behind the scenes now say he is performing all his duties. Prove it. Old Joe-Pop has not been seen in 5 days!

The first two arguments make no sense. (1) "Few really think Biden is incapable of performing his duties"? I would guess that's closer to 2/3 of the population rather than "few." (2) Lots of people choose not to run for re-election and still serve out their term? Of course they do, but the argument ignores Biden's dementia. Bowing out because of dementia is not the same thing as bowing out because you're tired of the job or have family issues. The third argument might make sense in other circumstances, but nobody is saying Biden might not be lucid in 2028. This is not some mere possibility of a problem in the future. I might not be lucid in 2028. You might not be. But for Biden it's here today, and everybody knows it.

Sharp as a tack and fit as a fiddle until he woke up on the morning of 6/27/24 with a case of dementia. Life isn’t fair.

To milk the last 6 months for all they can get away with.
Everything he does from now on should be questioned regarding it's legality since he's not likely of sound enough mind to sign loan documents or make any major purchases on his own due to his incapacity.

Maybe they fear what a 'president' Harris might do. Actually if she were in power he might not go down as the wort president in history.

If (and it looks pretty likely) Harris gets to be the "nominee" of the democrap party, Biden will immediately do two things. First, he will issue blanket pardons for his kid Hunter, his brothers and sister and any other Biden family member currently in criminal jeopardy. The next thing he will do is resign so as to make the "nominee" Harris the nominal (p)resident in order to allow her to campaign as "the incumbent." Of course, if Jill really hates Kamala as much as I suspect, Joe may have to be further "encouraged," such as a pillow over his face while napping. I think Jill would go along with this as long as she gets to keep all the graft-acquired secret bank accounts.

Prime Minister Netanyahu's office today told Fox News that the White House is not able to confirm whether Biden will meet with him tomorrow. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/netanyahus-meeting-biden-up-air-president-recovers-from-covid What is going on? Who is in charge? Is the President MIA?

Joe isn't resigning because he is just a figurehead to begin with. He was their puppet and they threw him away. The only comparison I can think oof is LBJ. If I remember my history, he (LBJ) said he would not run (actually announced on April Fools Day). Did LBJ finish his term? Was LBJ forced out? He was mentally competent though. This really isn't about Joe's mental competence. His masters could care less. The problem is he cannot defeat Donald Trump.

Fully reasoned article, but its premise is wrong. Biden is declining rapidly, now unable to perform the requirements of office, and irrevocably. Into the future. While this eroding flaw was successfully hidden from October 2021 onward and thru the primaries, recent events disclosed his now massive infirmity. Political concerns within the party led to his withdrawal…but quite clearly he would be (and is now) unable to fulfill the tole of chief executive.

The Presidency is a 24/7 job. There's nothing unserious about Republicans calling for Biden, who has no capacity to be "available" for even an eight hour work day, to resign. He can't find his way across the stage, so let's not pretend he is fit to "lead" anyone else, let alone a nation of citizens who deserve a full time, competent president...not an empty shell who is unaware of the extent of his mental impairment.
As for members of the House and Senate announcing their departures, yet finishing out their terms, this is done when an elected has a treatable condition or is seeking life extending therapy. It is not appropriate for rapidly advancing dementia.
An elderly dementia patient has no business anywhere near our nuclear codes, and I urge every American to take note of which of your elected "leaders" and party elites are advocating for Joe Biden to remain in office for six more months. Nothing could be more self-serving...or dangerous...than for Democrats to allow such a man to stay in office when he is UNFIT to spend another day there. Dems repeatedly called for Trump to be removed via the 25th Amendment. They were playing abusive politics, organized and paid for insiders who just didn't like Donald Trump. With Biden, his removal is a matter of preserving our nation before he does anything ELSE to compromise our national security. Never forget Biden opened our borders on his FIRST day in office. Just for that, he deserves to be removed ASAP.

He won't leave without his basket of pardons (and the income stream from the ones he wants to sell), and he can't have them before the election because of the patently bad optics.

A totally delusional take on why our purported president need not step down from the office despite his abandoning his candidacy for reelection. The most utterly ridiculous and completely absurd statement is as follows: "First, few seriously believe that the president is incapable of performing his duties between now and January." Everybody with a brain knows he was incapable of performing the duties of the office from the get-go.
