Top officials at the U.S. Secret Service repeatedly denied requests for additional resources and personnel sought by Donald Trump’s security detail in the two years leading up to his attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania last Saturday, according to four people familiar with the requests.
Agents charged with protecting the former president requested magnetometers and more agents to screen attendees at sporting events and other large public gatherings Trump attended, as well as additional snipers and specialty teams at other outdoor events, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive security discussions.

The Russian Digital Communications Ministry bragged on Friday that the worldwide information technology (IT) outage did not affect Russian airlines and banks, thanks to Russia’s countermeasures against Western sanctions.
“At the moment, the ministry has not received reports of system failures at Russian airports,” the ministry claimed.
“The situation with Microsoft once again shows the importance of import substitution of foreign software, primarily at critical information infrastructure facilities,” the ministry statement asserted.

The man who entered the United States illegally and then became a TikTok sensation for telling migrants to break into and squat American homes is believed to have been a member of a Venezuelan military intelligence unit, according to a new report.
The 27-year-old “influencer,” Leonel Moreno, was apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in March after posting a series of videos advising illegals to squat in U.S. homes and taunting Americans about Joe Biden’s rampant flood of illegal immigrants.

On Friday, Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced that he would vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming election, and gave the Republican presidential nominee his endorsement. This decision is a stunning reversal from the Republican governor's previous statement, in which he said last week that he would not vote for Trump and write someone in instead.
Gov. Cox told reporters that the assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania resulted in a "sobering moment" for him that prompted a weekend reflection. He said it was a miracle that the former president survived and will vote for him in November,

For the first time, researchers have voted to eliminate scientific names of organisms because they are offensive. Botanists decided that more than 200 plants, fungi and algae species names should no longer contain a racial slur related to the word caffra, which is used against Black people and others mostly in southern Africa. The changes voted on today at the International Botanical Congress in Madrid mean that plants such as the coast coral tree will, from 2026, be formally called Erythrina affra, instead of Erythrina caffra. (snip) The measure passed in a tense secret ballot, with 351 votes in favour against 205 opposed.

Democratic strategist James Carville on Thursday criticized the belief of some of former President Donald Trump’s backers that “God is protecting him” after surviving an assassination attempt on Saturday.
Trump survived the attempt on his life at his Pennsylvania rally after a bullet grazed his head, with some of the former president’s backers now believing that he is being protected by God, according to The New York Times. Carville on “Politics War Room” said he thinks this belief is “horseshit” and “a perversion,” adding that their religious perspective will lead to Trump destroying his enemies if reelected.

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) has reportedly told allies that he will resign from Congress since he was convicted on all counts in his federal corruption trial.
An NBC News report said that the New Jersey Democrat, who has, so far, been defiant and refused to resign in the face of demands from dozens of Senate Democrats, has said that he will soon step down.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) have called on the New Jersey Democrat to resign.

A group in New Delhi known as Hindu Sena (“Hindu Army”) prayed for the safety of U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday, describing him as the only “global leader” who “has the courage to speak against radical Islam and its followers.”
Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, so Hindu Sena hung a poster of Trump next to an idol of Baglamukhi — the Hindu goddess of protection — dabbed a vermilion holy mark on Trump’s forehead, and made burnt offerings to pray for the former — and possibly future — president’s life.

Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters stated on Tuesday that he plans to revoke an Ardmore City School instructor’s teaching certificate over her comments praising the individual who tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
Walters made the announcement that he plans to remove Alison Scott’s teaching certificate in response to a Facebook comment made by the teacher agreeing with another user who also praised the shooter. After seeing the comment, Walters announced on X that the state was performing an investigation on Scott, calling it “unacceptable.”

President Biden tested positive for COVID-19 Wednesday and canceled a speech to a Latino advocacy group in Sin City.
UnidosUS president Janet Murguía announced the diagnosis on stage as attendees began to wonder why Biden, 81, was running 90 minutes late to speak.
Biden taped a radio interview with Univision — set to air Thursday — shortly before the positive test was disclosed.

Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino says an “unimpeachable source” told him there was supposed to be someone on the roof from where gunman Thomas Crooks shot at Trump but that they “didn’t show up.”
Bongino made the comments during an appearance on a podcast with Tucker Carlson at the RNC.
“So I was just showing Tucker some material from an unimpeachable source let’s just say on the matter,” said Bongino.
“That post, according to my source, that roof was supposed to be a police post, there was supposed to be someone there,” he added.

A former classmate of would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks says the 20-year-old gunman once mocked him over his support of former President Donald Trump and had a general disdain for mainstream politicians across the political aisle. (snip) "He would just talk, talk and act like he knew everything, especially politics related, and he would say it in a tone that was like, 'I'm better than you,' in a type of way," he said.
He also pushed back on reporting that Crooks was a complete loner. He had a friend group, he said, although it was both small and concerning.
