San Francisco's dying downtown suffers
another hammer blow as Saks Fifth Avenue

San Francisco has suffered another blow as one of the most luxurious department stores downtown is banning window shoppers. Saks Fifth Avenue in Union Square has decided to change its customer experience by moving to 'appointment-only' this summer, according to KRON4. Locals will have to pre-book appointments at the store located on 384 Post Street from August 28. Customers can no longer walk in and browse the luxury items, according to a company spokesman. It comes as areas in San Francisco have become known for their squalor and misery - so much so that local businesses are unable to recruit staff and residents have felt forced to flee.

Comments:

City closed Market Street to automobile traffic years ago. Transportation choices are ride the bus with junkies or walk the squalor filled sidewalk crowded with muggers, tents and pitbulls. Or you can ride a bicycle. Oh what glorious decision makers the denizens of San Francisco has empowered.

I sure hope that they take their name off of the shopping bags. Gotta think about the safety of the customers after they leave the store.

I left the west coast during Covid. Glad to be out, but SF Union Square was one of my favorite places. Beautiful buildings, beautiful stores, cable cars, terrific Italian coffee and pastry shop on the square. Magical at Christmas time. Completely different vibe now. So sad (and so avoidable).

Saks should follow their paying customers and move to Texas and/or Florida.

Israeli fighter jets struck Houthi military targets in the area of Hodeidah port in Yemen on Saturday, the Israeli military said, a day after a drone launched by the Iranian-backed group hit Israel's economic hub Tel Aviv. Al-Masirah TV, the main television news outlet run by Yemen's Houthi movement, reported that the strikes were directed against oil facilities in the port and caused fatalities. Hodeidah residents told Reuters by phone that explosions were heard throughout the city during an intensive bombardment. "The fire that is currently burning in Hodeidah is seen across the Middle East and the significance is clear," Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said in a statement.

Nearly two-thirds of Democrats say President Joe Biden should withdraw from the presidential race and let his party nominate a different candidate, according to a new poll, sharply undercutting his post-debate claim that “average Democrats” are still with him even if some “big names” are turning on him. The new survey by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, conducted as Biden works to salvage his candidacy two weeks after his debate flop, also found that only about 3 in 10 Democrats are extremely or very confident that he has the mental capability to serve effectively as president, down slightly from 40% in an AP-NORC poll in February.

A former Israeli hostage freed last month in a daring Israel Defense Forces raid in Gaza is suing a US non-profit which employed his Hamas operative captor as a war correspondent, The Post has learned. Almog Meir Jan, 22, filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Seattle federal court against People Media Project, a non-profit based in Olympia, WA. The organization runs a pro-Palestinian news website and had frequently published the work of Abdullah Aljamal, a Gaza-based journalist and former spokesman for the terrorist organization. “It is indisputable that defendants provided Hamas operative Aljamal, whose connections to Hamas were publicly known, with a US-based and taxpayer subsidized platform to publish Hamas propaganda.

For nearly 20 years, Hamas has smuggled enormous quantities of weapons and building materials through and under the Philadelphi Corridor, significantly advancing the construction of underground Gaza – the world's largest terror city, a modern-day Sodom. Anyone who still believes the Egyptians were unaware of this is deluding themselves. The tunnels were dug from house basements, orchards, and olive groves. Each tunnel took between two weeks to two months to excavate. Property owners received a percentage of the smuggling profits. At one point, the Rafah municipality required tunnel owners to obtain business licenses and even charged them for water and electricity connections. At its peak, the operation employed 70,000 people.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined taking up the cases challenging Illinois' gun ban, saying they aren’t ready yet but also criticizing an appeals court’s rationale for denying a preliminary injunction. Tuesday, Justice Clarence Thomas denied writs of certiorari for the six cases challenging gun bans in Illinois. “Petitioners sought a preliminary injunction against the enforcement of the law, arguing that the law violates their Second Amendment right to ‘keep and bear Arms.’” Thomas wrote. “This Court is rightly wary of taking cases in an interlocutory posture. But, I hope we will consider the important issues presented by these petitions after the cases reach final judgment.”

In a historic decision, a divided Supreme Court on Monday ruled that former presidents can never be prosecuted for actions relating to the core powers of their office, and that there is at least a presumption that they have immunity for their official acts more broadly. The decision left open the possibility that the charges brought against former President Donald Trump by Special Counsel Jack Smith – alleging that Trump conspired to overturn the results of the 2020 election – can still go forward to the extent that the charges are based on his private conduct, rather than his official acts.

A federal judge in Anchorage has ruled that the Department of the Interior may take land into trust on behalf of Alaska Native tribes, a decision that could allow tribes to create “Indian country,” which had been mostly eliminated here by the 53-year-old Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. In a 39-page summary judgment order, Judge Sharon Gleason ruled mostly but not entirely against the state of Alaska, which sued the Interior Department in 2023 to challenge a legal memo stating that the department believes it has the power to take land into trust on behalf of the state’s 228 federally recognized tribes. At issue was the Biden Interior Department's

Voting for either of the “two extremes” of the populist right-wing National Rally or the leftist-socialist New Popular Front will lead to “civil war”, Macron said in an interview in which he castigated the leadership of the two main opposition parties “and those who follow them”. The embattled French leader, who’s party is trailing in third place in the snap elections he called, said that the “response of the extreme right” to France’s current problems would lead to insecurity

The Democrat party is in disarray as they try to push Joe Biden out of the way. Obama and Pelosi are orchestrating damaging leaks to the media in an effort to drive Biden out of the 2024 race. Joe Biden is currently fuming at his Rehoboth Beach house as Democrats plan a coup against him with rumors of an open convention. Kamala Harris is jumping on donor calls and rallying supporters in North Carolina as Biden hides at his beach compound. The media is pushing Kamala Harris as the perfect alternative to Joe Biden. However, an author floated twice-failed presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton as the perfect Biden replacement in an op-ed for The Hill.

The strongest argument against replacing President Joe Biden as the 2024 Democratic nominee is the notion that no suitable successor exists. But there is, and not just a good one but one of the most qualified people ever to run for the office: Hillary Rodham Clinton. For what feels like longer than two weeks, we have publicly and endlessly debated about Biden’s candidacy. Democrats have repeatedly called on him to make a decision. It is damaging, divisive and only serves to further improve Donald Trump’s chances.

A city labeled 'America's jihad capital' by the Wall Street Journal has become fiercely divided over the war in Gaza - as residents refuse to vote for either candidate in the presidential election. Dearborn, a small city near Detroit, Michigan, is home to America's largest Arab American community. The mood amongst locals has significantly switched as the death toll in Gaza continues to mount - with little indication of a political solution in the near future. Residents of Dearborn believe America's political leaders are playing a major role in enabling the suffering caused by ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Nancy Pelosi wants him out. Chuck Schumer wants him out. Even Barack Obama, who may have been the man in real charge of this entire administration, wants him out. Americans who are tired of suffering the nation’s slow and seemingly inexorable decline certainly want him out. But Old Joe Biden is digging in his heels. He and his dwindling coterie of supporters are the last people on the planet who still insist that their man is sharp-witted, energetic, and ready to serve until he is a hale and hearty 86 years old. And so it looks as if the Democrats are stuck with Joe. Or are they?

Interestingly, Nancy Pelosi held a meeting with the California House delegation on July 10th, nine days ago, to strategize how to exit Biden without a “coronation of Kamala Harris.” Details of the meeting are only coming out now. Keep in mind, only through an “open convention” process can someone other than Kamala Harris take over the ticket. Pelosi gives the appearance of calling for the democrat base to have a say in the replacement, but in actuality it’s the only way the club insiders can select a nominee that’s not Kamala Harris.
