Elon Musk says SpaceX and X headquarters

SpaceX CEO and X owner Elon Musk said Tuesday he will move the headquarters of both companies from California to Texas. Musk vowed the moves in response to Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) signing a new law on Tuesday that bars school districts in California from requiring parents to be notified of a child’s gender identification change. “This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas,” Musk posted on X. He later added that X HQ will also move from San Francisco to Austin.

Very strange. I would think that most businesses would be eager to move to a state where their employees' children can have their penises cut off without parental notice. If I owned a big company - - I'd certainly consider moving there.

There will be a big financial impact on the finances for the State of California just from the company filings, then add all of the employees who will move to be at the new HQ for both companies and it will really start adding up on the negative side. That's all those stock options that won't be part of the state finances in the coming years too. Then, consider the declining population, particularly children, where the state is projecting a 16% decline in school enrollment in 2032 from today's already low number. This will impact how many teachers will be needed in the near future. State pension obligations are the FIRST obligation and any shortfall in the pension funds MUST be made-up by the general funds, then they can allocate to other needs/programs. That's how it works in CA, folks.

Re #6, unless they get rid of those wind turbines, the Texas grid will continue to be unstable. It's a complex technical issue....but basically, the way wind turbines work requires the electricity to be highly processed from the turbine before it can be put into the grid. Normal steam turbine driven generators have a lot of "inertia", tendency to rotate at a constant speed, huge mass. So, comparatively small increases in electrical power, which DO HAPPEN, like when a bunch of folks turn on electric heating appliances at the same time...like when they get home and start to cook dinner, that pulse will slow the turbine a tiny fraction of speed, and the system can use that inertia effect to ramp up the steam and in a few seconds have more power coming in to the turbine, so speed stays in a narrow range. Exact frequency of the alternating current is critical for grid stability. When turbine power goes through the requires purely electronic converters, a power pulse instantly lowers the frequency.....no inertia in a purely electronic system, and the windmills can't increase output in time to keep the frequency stable. This destabilizes the grid if too much 'rotating generation' meaning steam plants, nuke or conventional, are on the grid. So more and more wind turbines is very destabilizing and can cause grid crashes. The smaller the grid, the more unstable it can be.....and Texas is an isolated grid, not connected to the rest of the country. Wind turbines are a serious problem, can never replace real power plants unless there are huge changes. One country, England or Scotland, I forget, actually has a HUGE flywheel run by a motor/generator unit, spinning in a vacuum. The ONLY purpose is to provide inertia for the grid since wind turbines have none. It takes grid power to spin it and can give it back if the frequency starts to drop. Solar has the exact same "no inertia" destabilizing effect on the power grid.

correction to #10. IF NOT ENOUGH rotary inertia is on the grid, too FEW steam turbine generators, the grid cannot handle sudden power requirement increases, even comparatively small ones, and goes unstable.

Greg Abbott Shares the Harsh Reality of

Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) came out to a hearty welcome at the Republican National Convention. The crowd cheered and chanted “Drill, baby drill!” He had to wait to begin his speech because the crowd noise was so raucous. But Abbott wasn’t in Milwaukee to talk about drilling for oil. Instead, he spoke about the border crisis, which Abbott knows about more than probably any other governor. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, “Texas and Mexico share 1,254 miles of common border and are joined by 28 international bridges and border crossings. This number includes two dams, one hand-drawn ferry, and 25 other crossings that allow commercial, vehicular, and pedestrian traffic.”

As President Joe Biden flies back to Delaware from Las Vegas on Wednesday night, cutting his trip short after testing positive for Covid-19, he faces one of the most momentous decisions of his long political life: Should he heed the rising calls from his fellow Democrats to extinguish his bid for reelection? For Biden, is it a new moment? Even though anger and panic have been steadily rising inside the Democratic Party for nearly three weeks, after the president’s alarming debate performance in Atlanta, the White House and the Biden campaign are in a new place, multiple Democratic officials told CNN. “The private conversations with the Hill are continuing,

Forty-four years ago, Ronald Reagan asked the most devastating question in presidential-campaign politics. "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" he asked in reference to the Jimmy Carter presidency, an utter disaster economically and on foreign policy. That question crystallized an American electorate tired of being told to get used to decline, and it touched off an economic and military revival that eventually ended the Cold War. Tonight, the theme for the Republican national convention is "Make America Strong Again," a slogan that got a broad sweep in the speeches from the stage. Border security dominated the earlier speeches, but Medal of Honor

Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the families of service members who were killed during Joe Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan delivered devastating remarks about the current president, his actions during and after the withdrawal, and his refusal to even acknowledge their fallen loved ones. Multiple members spoke during the segment, but all of the remarks were so powerful that multiple media outlets and pundits referred to the moment as "powerful" and "devastating" for Joe Biden. The speech was part of the RNC's Wednesday night theme, which was centered around safety. It was indeed a powerful moment for the Republican nominee and a brutal one for Biden.

The calls for President Biden to pass the torch had stopped following the former president and current GOP nominee for president, Donald Trump's assassination attempt, but the Democrats have ramped up those calls in the past couple of days.
