Vance as his running mate makes it “more clear than ever that our rights, our freedoms, and our democracy are on the line this November.” The fearmongering rhetoric comes just two days after Trump survived an attempted assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pa. Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) came out to a hearty welcome at the Republican National Convention. The crowd cheered and chanted “Drill, baby drill!” He had to wait to begin his speech because the crowd noise was so raucous.
But Abbott wasn’t in Milwaukee to talk about drilling for oil. Instead, he spoke about the border crisis, which Abbott knows about more than probably any other governor. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, “Texas and Mexico share 1,254 miles of common border and are joined by 28 international bridges and border crossings. This number includes two dams, one hand-drawn ferry, and 25 other crossings that allow commercial, vehicular, and pedestrian traffic.”

The call with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus devolved into total mayhem last week. On top of being late to the call, Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA) called on Biden to step aside directly, leading to the call's abruptly ending. No one could ask the president questions. It was very much the controlled, guard-railed, and staged antics that have marked this presidency. It’s all a show, with no real action or governing.
