In the 48 hours before he opened fire on former President Donald Trump, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks made a series of stops in and around his suburban Pittsburgh hometown. On Friday, he went to a shooting range where he was a member, and practiced firing, [Snip] The next morning, Crooks went to a Home Depot, where he bought a five-foot ladder, and a gun store, where he purchased 50 rounds of ammunition, the official said. [Snip] He parked the car outside the rally, with an improvised explosive device hidden in the trunk that was wired to a transmitter he carried, the official said.

He should have bought some shooters gloves and a padded long sleeve shirt. I can’t imagine crawling up a hot metal roof did much to enhance his shooting.

I'm not sure how buying a Five Foot ladder has anything to do with climbing up onto a Fifteen foot roof.
Something is not right.

My condolences and sympathies for all of the victims. And President Trump had angels on his side on that day. The only good thing about this is the 20 year old punk was killed and we won't have to endure a length trial. I don't care about what motivated Crooks. I'm just glad he's dead.

Sad fact is, the FBI has found out nothing. Everything we do know came from attendees on the ground there, who saw the shooter minutes before the shots were fired and alerted some police in the immediate area. Plus the one officer who actually was near the shooter but did nothing after the shooter pointed his rifle at him. There is something strange about this whole assassination attempt that is not right. And how do you trust the FBI with anything.

Yeah, it'll likely be a month of Sundays before the Keystone Kops over at the Failed Bureau of Idiots comes up with anything!

Movements too obvious and in the open...almost providing a blueprint to any investigators

So he strolls onto the rally grounds with a ladder and AR-15 ---- and no one stops him? Then, we are told that the second team of snipers eschewed the roof of the shooter building -- because it was too steep for them to be safe, instead remaining inside the building, where they could not see a thing happening around or above them.

FTA - "Yet nearly 48 hours after the shooting, investigators are struck by the lack of leads they’re finding about Crooks’ mindset and possible motives."
Crooks may have visited public venues and used their free wi fi and computer equipment for doing his searches. A burner cell phone is also a possibility and would be hard to track if he paid cash for it.

Our two story condo building requires about a 5 foot ladder to reach the base of the wall-mounted ladder that goes to the roof.

Well, we now know how he got more shooting skill. The usual way, practicing on a range. Now, how is it that he was permitted to get on a roof within 135 yards of President Trump?
I am thinking that Trump needs to FIRE the SS and hire his own security team. Start by hiring Dan Bogino to put together a team of folks he trusts who have been in that job and know what the hell they are doing. And even if it winds up being mostly white men.....OMG.

Fox just reported that in the past couple months, US government authorities knew there were credible threats specifically directed at President Trump. While there is no connection known with the shooter Saturday night, it shows the neglect of those authorities is telling.

Re #2. From the videos that I saw there was a fully enclosed walkway between the two buildings. The peak of the walkway roof was maybe four feet below the lowest edge of the roof the shooter got on. The bottom edge of the walkway roof seemed to be maybe 6 or 7 feet up, and there was some sort of a box next to it...perhaps an AC outside unit. I think the ladder on the AC unit would give easy access to the walkway roof, and then up onto the main roof. And kick the ladder down behind the AC unit (?) and it might not be seen from even 10 yards away, especially if the grass or weeds were high in that area.

Oops. I didn't mention the source of those threats. ... the government of Iran. Kind of an important point.

Unless I am having false memories from the myriad stories I've seen/read, he did NOT use a ladder. There's a brick wall near the building complex which he used to get on the roof. In fact, I am sure I saw surveillance footage of his using the wall to access the roof.

Maybe it was an extendable 5' ladder. All he had to do was lay it in the grass the day before. I am really interested in how he got the rifle past the checkpoint. I'll assume he just came in from a different direction and with the pathetic local, state and federal planning, it was probably very easy. The fact that several people were doing everything but screaming and grabbing the nearest cop to get their attention to the killer they were pointing at, I'd bet they had maybe zero pre-speech prep and orders about who was in charge of what and how to handle exactly what happen. No doubt they had no co-ordination of radios or chain of command. Pathetic and criminal. Resignations are not enough, those responsible for this are guilty of manslaughter.

Re #18. Any AR-15 comes apart into a couple of pieces about 2 feet long in seconds, reassemble in seconds. This would fit in a backpack. And perhaps the rifle was hidden near the buildings previously, picked up that day. Hard to know

Yes, #13. Hire his own security detail of the best and brightest who make sure any participating local police know their job and area of responsibility.

Was the ladder found at the site of the shooting? Perhaps he thought he might need it and ultimately was able to get up to the roof without it.

Regardless of whether or not he used a ladder (and if he did, where is it?) the bigger question is how did Crooks know which rooftop he could access and which would provide a clear line of sight to assassinate Trump? Had he been surveilling that particular rooftop? Why? Did someone in the SS or local police disclose to the public exactly WHERE Trump was going to stand to give his speech? Or?

So, all of the law enforcement all around the area, actual counter snipers inside the building this guy climbed up on, and NO ONE noticed someone walking around with a ladder and a long rifle?
Or, heard the shuffling up on the roof where the counter snipers were located?

72 hours have passed and still a remarkable lack of specifics on the shooter.
1. No brothers and sisters?
2. No friends, not even one?
3. Got an AA degree in engineering. Any classmates remember him?
4. Never had a girlfriend?
5. Did he ever work? Any job? Recollections of a boss?
6. Alarming lack of details about parents. Counselors? Of what, who did they counsel?
Geeeeez journalists! Get with the investigation.
