No Tax on Tips

Donald Trump is a master showman and marketer. He demonstrated those skills once again with his proposal to kill the tax on tips. It’s more than shrewd. It’s brilliant. After the hoorays from waiters and other service workers died down, political analysts weighed in. Their conclusion: this is a very smart way to gain an edge in Nevada, where the presidential race is close. That’s certainly true. But Trump’s proposal is much smarter and will have a bigger impact, not because of its impact on tips, as such, but because of the larger signal it sends. That signal says to lower-income workers across the country, “I understand your struggles

A gratuity is not income. It’s a gift. Democrat bureaucrats at the IRS made it a tax. That can be changed by a president.

Total crap. Just pandering to a group of people with another give away. No better than any other politician, I'm disappointed that Trump would stoop this low. I defy anyone to explain how tipped employees are any more special than any other moderate income group. Tips are income, just like any other income, and there are plenty of tipped employees who are very well off and in no way deserving of anyone's sympathy. This is an invitation for employers to reclassify some wages as tips.

Eliminating taxes is not pandering #2, GIVING money to people who don't pay taxes is pandering. I would like to see income taxes rolled back across the board. After Trump eliminates taxes on tips, I would like to see income tax on Social Security eliminated next-the way it was. We are WAY overtaxed-time to fix that.

I was a waitress in my late 20's, and with an outgoing personality I really enjoyed the work. As #1 graciously explained, the "tip" is a gratuity, a gift, and is not income. I got "stiffed" a few times, but they were far overshadowed by the kindness and friendliness of everyday people. I really enjoyed waiting tables. I did breakfast and lunch in the lobby coffee shop of a hotel near a regional airport in the early 1980's. I served businessmen and tourists coming into the Pacific Northwest. My base was minimum wage, so tips are what make restaurant work attractive for the wait staff and affordable for the owner. The amount of tips earned is variable upon the wait person. A lousy worker will make less tips and pay less taxes. The productive, good waiter or waitress is penalized for their good service by paying higher taxes. How is that an incentive in a free society? Trump's tactic is a brilliant for the campaign. Not only is it a plank in his platform, he has made it a slogan and a possible hand-out that is mass produced by every restaurant for every transaction! TK and I don't usually go to restaurants, but we may just start so we can have some checks to write, "No Tax on Tips! Vote for Trump!" TRUMP 2024 - MAGA!

I do not recognize #2's poster name and can only assume a new poster. I beg to disagree. There are MANY tax burdens placed on the American people and these burdens are going to have to be chipped away at one by one. The spending that is done in the government needs discipline and accountability. Government's answer is to tax more. Again, I beg to disagree with said commentary.

If Character Matters, Biden Flunks the Test 8 replies

When a candidate runs on character, you know his record can’t be good. Hence President Biden’s reported $50 million spend on an ad titled “Character Matters,” which features unflattering photos of Donald Trump while focusing on the Republican nominee’s legal troubles. Hey, we paid good taxpayer money engineering those court cases and we’re not going to waste it. “Going negative,” as they say in politics, worked for Biden before. He was on the ticket in 2012 when Barack Obama became the first modern president to win reelection with fewer votes than he received the first time.

It has been almost 4 years since the mainstream media demanded we not believe our lying eyes and instead pretend that Hunter Biden’s infamous and damning laptop was all just Russian disinformation. So it should come as a shock to precisely nobody that with Joe Biden and his presidency crumbling all around us, his media allies and enablers are back at it, this time with ludicrous claims that the president’s obvious mental decline is all just a "cheap fake." The term itself is absurd on its face, derived from "deep fake" which is an image or video manipulated by software, "cheap fake,"

A Boston liberal arts college admitted that the recent anti-Israel protests on campus have contributed to low enrollment for the upcoming academic year which will necessitate possible staffing cuts. In an internal message this week, Emerson College president Jay Bernhardt pointed to "multiple factors" prompting a "significant" shortage in the incoming freshman class, including the protests and the press generated by them. "We want to share with our community that the size of our incoming first-year class for Fall 2024 is significantly below what we had hoped," Bernhardt’s statement declared this week.

How Left-wing Conspiracies Work 4 replies

Since 2016, there has been a clear pattern to left-wing conspiracies—beyond the obvious fact that they traffic in lies, stereotypes, and paranoia to serve precise political agendas. We now know that the conspiracy to cook up the Russian-collusion hoax—Donald Trump allegedly conniving with Vladimir Putin to rig the 2016 vote—was perpetrated by the Hillary Clinton campaign. Its funding was hidden by the Democratic National Committee, the law firm Perkins Coie, and Fusion GPS. The Russian “disinformation” laptop hoax—the notion that the same Russians four years later created a fake Hunter

When I look for the headwaters of love, for its source in my life, I always arrive back at my father. Every other Saturday morning from when I was 13, when my parents got divorced until I left for college, my brother, sister and I would watch for him through the living room window. When he pulled into the driveway, we’d shout “Bye, Mom!” as we shut the front door and ran down the steps to his car. Mainly what he wanted to do was have a long breakfast at a cafe with comfortable banquettes and bottomless coffee. And talk, except he would say “visit.” A lot

In an age filled with hostile propaganda against the nuclear family and devoted fathers in particular, it is worthwhile to ask why the celebration of Father’s Day persists. Most of us instinctively understand the connection between fatherlessness and social ills, such as crime, poverty, and mental illness. At the same time, we can see the calm and joy of children who are blessed with responsible and loving fathers. Maybe those are reasons why the tradition of Father’s Day continues to hold sway in America, in spite of ideologues who hope to abolish responsible masculinity by labeling it as toxic, patriarchal, or a product of “white supremacy.”
The corruption of Attorney General Merrick Garland 26 replies

This week, Attorney General Merrick Garland took to the pages of the Washington Post to lash out at critics who are spreading what he considers “conspiracy theories crafted and spread for the purpose of undermining public trust in the judicial process itself.” His column, titled “Unfounded attacks on the Justice Department must end,” missed the point. It is Garland himself who has become the problem. The solution is in Wilmington, Delaware, where 12 average citizens just showed a commitment to the rule of law that seems to be harder and harder for the attorney general to meet.

New York Times columnist and former Oregon Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nicholas Kristof admitted on Saturday that the West Coast cities is "a mess" because of Democratic Party leaders. In a column for the New York Times, Kristof argued that "West Coast liberalism" is more focused on the intentions behind its policies rather than its outcomes. As a result, deep blue states like Oregon have major homeless and drug problems, "below-average" high school graduation rates, and high murder rates. "But liberals like me do need to face the painful fact that something has gone badly wrong where we’re in charge, from San Diego to Seattle,"

The conviction of Hunter Biden on all of the federal gun counts created a surprising new precedent in Delaware … for Hunter Biden. In terms of the law, this was the easiest judgment since the Jussie Smollett verdict. (Actually the Biden jury took a third of the time with a verdict in just three hours.) For Hunter Biden, though, this was the first time he’s ever been held accountable for any criminal conduct, be it drug use, or prostitution, or tax evasion, or violations of various federal laws. To have that moment come in the hometown of the Bidens likely only magnified the shock.

European leaders, we are told, fear that their relationship with the United States could be destabilized if former President Donald Trump is reelected and pursues an America-first agenda, not one aligned to the priorities of Europe’s ruling parties. Those European leaders should pay attention to their own constituents. After the European Parliament elections last weekend, it is clear European voters want changes similar to those being offered by Trump.

The malign influence of the deep state was revealed in a Delaware federal courtroom Tuesday. FBI Special Agent Erika Jensen acknowledged the provenance of the notorious MacBook Pro that Hunter Biden abandoned at a computer repair shop in April 2019. This is the same laptop, filled to the brim with fresh evidence of the first son’s felonies, seized by the FBI in December of that year. The G-men and the Justice Department sat on the device until the statute of limitations expired on the most significant crimes contained therein. This is the same laptop that 51 former intelligence officials swore was “Russian disinformation” on the eve of the 2020 election.

President Joe Biden is being shuffled to Camp Debate to prepare for the most consequential debate of his political career: the June 27 debate with former President Donald Trump. Biden is mustering all his top advisers to prepare him for this epic showdown, where the president’s mental health and stamina will be tested. For weeks, we’ve seen a mentally declining president on display. CBS News reported that “we should expect some surprises” from this debate preparation excursion. And what will that be—Biden not falling or him saying something remotely coherent? The 2024 playbook is a mess, and it's Democrats who are making that known behind the scenes.

One of the most valuable lessons we learned from that terrible day is that complacency is a deadly disease that can result in tragedy too painful to bear. The ads direct viewers to a Mass.gov webpage advertising how to "search for a trusted abortion provider." Supporters say they provide education and resources for women to explore alternatives to abortion to make an informed decision about their pregnancy.

I think it's safe to say we're there. Where is "there"? In this case, veteran Democrat activist-operative James Carville is openly calling for the creation of a White House-led "enforcement mechanism" to compel the lapdog media to directly help embattled Joe Biden beat Donald Trump in November. We first go back to May, when New York Times editor Joe Kahn said the duty of his paper is to cover news that Americans care about rather than what helps Biden or hurts Trump, while Biden aides were reportedly urging officials to criticize the NYT’s coverage that didn't help Biden or hurt Trump. The Biden aides' plan wasn't good enough for Carville.
