Trump: ‘When I Get to Office, We Are
Going to Not Charge Taxes on Tips’

Original Article

Former President Donald Trump promised that if elected president in November, his administration will eliminate taxes on tips. During a rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday, Trump told the crowd his administration would not be taxing the tips of people working in hotels, restaurants, or other jobs. “So, this is the first time I’ve said this. And, for those hotel workers and people that get tips, you’re going to be very happy,” Trump announced. “Because when I get to office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips — people making tips.”

Comments:

The tax system is so messed up.

How about removing the taxable portion of Social Security or at least raising the $32,000 taxable base which hasn't been adjusted since the 80s. Not sure if I agree that tips ( which can be the majority of some professions earnings) is the way to go, but it played well to the home crowd in Vegas.

Who are you going to vote for? The man who is making taxpayers pay the tuition for elitist college graduates who spend their time protesting for rapists and murders or the man who is going to let you, you hardworking waitresses and waiters keep money you earned for delivering great service? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say there are probably thousands more servers in this country than college graduates. Advantage Trump.

Moved to a village between Brussels and Mechelen nearly 4 decades ago. I love Gent, Antwerpen is a bustling vibrant city, but Brussels is a craphole where I go only to renew my passport in the US embassy. Brussels is replete with no-go zones: Schaarbeek, Molenberg, Anderlecht are places you don't go if you're Caucasian and Christian. The original inhabitants have fled to outlying villages such ours, turning them from comfortable, affordable little tight-knit Flemish communities to rows of expensive apartments where everybody is a stranger.

This is a brilliant and not very controversial move that will gain Trump thousands if not millions of fence-sitter votes because many, many people work in service industries. Since minimum wages have jumped through the roof in many states and those wages are taxable, the IRS will not suffer very much from such a law, if anybody still cares about the bloodsuckers.

That said, the IRS used to withhold estimated tip money from these people, 15% to 18% whether they made that much in tips or not. I'm not sure if that's still the case but if you didn't tip at least that much, the wait staff and bartender got screwed.

# 12 Maybe not. Tips are (theoretically) optional. So they are not income, but gifts, depending on how the IRS defines “income”. I suspect the statute is silent and the decision to call tips income instead of “gratuity” is an administrative decision. Yes, this is a pander to workers in Vegas, but taxing a gratuity is wrong anyway.

I have a friend whose son worked in a high-end restaurant as a waiter. He told me that the restaurant had software that required the server to report the amount of cash tips on meals when the tip wasn't on a credit card. Of course, it is up to the server how much he/she reports - a 20% tip becomes 15%, a 25% tip becomes 20% and so on. As a former waitress, I always tip in cash (and frequently pay in cash).

#12, I think you miss the point which is a great political move by President Trump. After all, there are millions of workers who have "tip" money - even many of those college students who think they know what they're demonstrating likely have jobs that provide "tips" in addition to their hourly wage. Then, you get Republicans running for office talking about it and campaigning on it compared to the Democrats who will be against any potential reduction in revenues to fund government. When they have enough of a Majority in the House and Senate, they update the Tax bill that's set to have provisions expire in 2025 with an inclusion of not taxing "tips". I hope they also get around to increasing SALT to $25,000 limit too (forget about income levels the Dems will use against you just a number will suffice).

An increasingly desperate Emmanuel Macron has warned the public that “civil war” awaits France if they fail to vote for his brand of centrist neo-liberalism in the upcoming legislative elections. Voting for either of the “two extremes” of the populist right-wing National Rally or the leftist-socialist New Popular Front will lead to “civil war”, Macron said in an interview in which he castigated the leadership of the two main opposition parties “and those who follow them”. The embattled French leader, who’s party is trailing in third place in the snap elections he called, said that the “response of the extreme right” to France’s current problems would lead to insecurity

State legislators and law enforcement are reinstating dormant laws that criminalize mask-wearing to penalize pro-Palestinian protesters who conceal their faces, raising concerns among covid-cautious Americans. Republican lawmakers in North Carolina are poised to overturn Gov. Roy Cooper’s (D) recent veto of legislation to criminalize masking. New York Gov. This is your chance to get out.” Student protesters in Ohio, Texas and Florida have been threatened with arrest for covering their faces.

The Charter Revision Commission convened by Mayor Adams may have started as a politically motivated effort to fend off a City Council power grab — but on Monday, commissioners heard a reform proposal that could profoundly change Gotham politics for the better. The possible change sounds simple: giving nearly one million more registered voters the right to participate in primary elections. But its impact could be profound, offering New York City a way to take back local government from the hard left. Today, voters not registered to a major party are shut out of primaries, our most important local elections.

Republicans in the Michigan House of Representatives are doubling down on their opposition to a Democrat-led bill, which could put the state’s 15 electoral votes in line with the national popular vote in presidential elections. The effort comes as other states have passed measures looking to align themselves with the national popular vote, rather than their own state’s popular vote, as a way to change the way a president is elected. Seventeen states and the District of Columbia have already agreed to a compact which would have them vote in line with the popular vote, rather than their respective jurisdiction’s popular vote,

Crime in California has become a nationwide cautionary tale, but California's elected leaders, from Governor Gavin Newsom to Attorney General Rob Bonta to the Democrat Supermajority legislature, have done little except put a new paint job on a red-tagged building. From blue sky initiatives like high-tech surveillance to banning self-checkout, none of these addresses the root issue: people who do the crime in California rarely do the time. There are no consequences for criminal behavior; therefore, there is no reason not to escalate that behavior. Ergo, crime continues to be rampant. After decades of this, Californians have taken matters into their own hands.
