10 Reasons Not to Buy an Electric Car

1. We've been down this road before Paul: Electric cars are not new. When the 1901 Chicago Auto Show was staged, more than half of the fourteen vehicles that were shown at that show were electric vehicles. It's not a new idea at all. The problem is, is that there's this nasty little thing called practicality. Advertisement There are a lot of people who are saying, "I've seen all of this, I apparently should be doing it." And then they get hit with the harsh realities of what happens with an electric vehicle. 2. They're more expensive than you think Lauren: If you're thinking about buying an electric car ...

If you're not charging your electric car with a windmill or solar panels you are only pretending. A typical state needs 45 thousand MegaWatts of generating capacity. For just 1 thousand MegaWatts of generating capacity it will take 70 to 100 square miles of solar panels. That's square miles NOT acres. So for the entire needs of a state to be met about 10% of the state will have to be shaved bare of any plant growth, covered in gravel and concrete, then covered in solar panels. How environmentally green is it to destroy that much green plants and trees? BUT if we replace the present fossil fuels usage with electricity then generating capacity will have to triple. So change that to 30% of the land shaved bare.

Some thoughts: - Billions have been invested in EV technology. If the technology fails, alot of people are going to lose their shirts. That alone is incentive to make the technology work. - The runway to make EVs work in the US is quickly approaching and end. Any car that is manufactured in the US quickly ceases production if it does not catch on. EVs have been given a huge grace period to work out all the problems. Not sure its happening. - Watch the rest of the world to see if EVs catch on anywhere. In particular, Europe. Read that the range of EVs in Europe have doubled and is set to double again. Is it true? Who knows? I don't trust any reporting. Europe is also coming out with EV tractor/trailers to replace diesel powered tractor/trailers. Can see this technology never catching on in the US, but being embraced elsewhere.

I considered buying an EV. They can be practical IF (1) you own your own home and can install a high speed charger in your garage, (2) you have low cost electricity in your area or solar panels and battery storage, (3) you live in an urban area, (4) you only use it to drive around town, always within range of your home charger, (5) you have an internal combustion car for whenever you want to drive more than 100 miles from your house, (6) you lease instead of buying so you do not get stuck with it when the battery wears out. Also, the EV has to qualify for government subsidies or it simply is not affordable. After considering all of the pros and cons I decided to buy a used SUV instead.

End the EV "tax credit" then see how they do. I'll be blunt... On another thread a familiar EV supporter stated $48k was not an unreasonable amount for a vehicle these days. I could buy about 6 vehicles, and expect them to each run 10 years or more, for that kind of money. How do I know? It's what I've done all my life. I've owned ONE new car. A 1981 Citation that I kept about 12 years until it succumbed to rust. In NC, where I live now, that's not an issue. You can have your bells and whistles, it's a free country so far.

We went to a local restaurant that my wife wanted to try a couple of evenings ago. It is attached to a large shopping mall, and there is a row of electric car chargers there for the mall. Most of the chargers were empty, of course, but there were three cars there with the people standing around or sitting in the cars, the endless EV wait for the eyedropper to fill up their "fuel tank". And when we had ordered our food, gotten it, eaten it, visited the restroom and cleaned up and headed out, perhaps an hour or a bit more later....the EV folks were still there "fuel" drip, drip, dripping into their "fuel tank". I think one had left. In any case, I had a good laugh at their expense. What a giant time waster those damned foolish things are.

EVs have been available to buy for 130+ years. I spent a day visiting a EV factory in Sebring, Florida in 1974, at the Sebring Vanguard factory. They have ALL failed in the marketplace. EVs have been "the car of the future" for 130+ years, and that remains true today. Chemical batteries, while much improved now, are NEVER going to be able to have the energy density of a tank of gasoline, or the speed of "refilling" of that same tank of liquid petroleum fuel. NEVER. Stop wasting our time. And more CO2 isa BENEFIT to green plants and all living things. CO2 is not harmful, not a pollutant. This oft repeated tale is still a lie, no matter how often they repeat it.

Another Dem-Manufactured ‘Gate’ Scandal 0 replies

The desperate Dems, pole-axed by Trump’s fast start on his second term, have revved up their TDS Rube Goldberg scandal machine. The so-called SignalGate affair is being vigorously flogged, with the usual help from Republican Fifth Columnists. But the “-gate” suffix doesn’t mean what the Democrats think it does. Recently, a group meeting including Trump, Vice President Vance, Def Sec Peter Hegseth, and other defense and national security officials, convened to discuss a punitive attack on Yemen’s Houthi terrorists, and inadvertently included Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg, best known for his inveterate, hysterical hatred of Donald Trump, and his eager peddling of the preposterous Russia hoax.

It has been a while since Democrats have assassinated a Republican president, but that peaceful interlude may be ending soon. You likely have heard about a survey report by the Network Contagion Research Institute and Rutgers University’s Social Perception Lab, which examines the growing tolerance for violence in American society. Or, rather, on America’s Left: Political violence targeting Donald Trump and Elon Musk is becoming increasingly normalized. Following the July 13, 2024 attempted assassination of President Trump, tolerance – and even advocacy – for political violence appears to have surged, especially among politically left-leaning segments of the population. This pattern builds on a broader trend NCRI identified in two

Haynes finished the 2024 season as the top-ranked women's player in the Ultimate Pool Pro Series and appears on the way to defending that title in 2025. Elie Mystal, a far-left columnist for The Nation, is so petrified of the Trump administration snatching him off the street because of his articles that he has allegedly hired security to keep him safe. This, according to Mystal himself. The author of the new book "Bad Law: Ten Popular Laws That Are Ruining America" appeared with Charlamagne the God on "The Breakfast Club" late last week and promptly demonstrated little to no grasp of current law. Mystal is not an illegal immigrant (he was born in Queens, and his father was a prominent political figure in Suffolk County, New York—a legal Haitian migrant), nor does he have a student visa.

Democrats thought they had a great issue in the high price of eggs, due mostly to avian bird flu. In January, they were touting record-high egg prices as proof of the failure of Trump’s administration–even though the figures released in January were for December, before Trump’s inauguration. Weirdly, the Democrats’ harping on eggs has continued even as the price has plummeted, as in this LA Times column, published on March 8: "As their party struggles to navigate the early days of Donald Trump’s second presidency, some Democrats are convinced that their road to recovery lies in the price of eggs. The Trump administration will be allowed to resume deporting suspected Venezuelan gangbangers under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act after the Supreme Court on Monday lifted a lower court order that blocked the deportations. DC District Court Chief Judge James Boasberg had blocked President Trump from invoking the rarely used wartime law last month, and later extended his temporary restraining order until at least April 12. The Trump administration filed an emergency request with the Supreme Court to review Boasberg’s pause on March 28, after a divided three-judge panel on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a request to lift the stay as litigation plays out.

The "scholars" leading the IUMS live safely in Qatar, not in the Gaza Strip, and they are therefore not directly affected by the war that Hamas launched.
