ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — In-person classes have been canceled at a local charter school for the rest of the week after the roof of its new gym collapsed. School officials say the new gym at the Explore Academy middle and high school campus was basically complete. They were even planning on hosting a ribbon cutting Wednesday, but that’s been canceled, as well as all in-person classes. Parents learned about the collapse through an email from the school Sunday night. “The students are out the whole week now,” a parent told KOB 4 anonymously. “Because they have to get inspectors to gather and, at the request of the inspectors in particular,

They knew back on March 6 that the trusses were bent and bowing and did nothing about it? And the building had not had a safety inspection yet. Sounds like whoever is in charge of that school needs to be fired. By the Grace of God this happened during the week-end and not during classes.

Rep. Lauren Boebert continues to be a force in political fundraising. She once again raised more than not only her opponents for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District seat but also every other candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in the state. The Republican incumbent reported a haul of nearly $808,000 in the final quarter of 2021, according to Federal Election Commission filings. That includes over $762,000 in donations from individuals, with the rest from political action committees or other campaign committees.

Rasmussen Reports recently conducted a nationwide survey with questions on vaccinated immunity and natural immunity after a recommendation by Becker News. “I wonder if you polled Democratic (and R, I) voters, how many would call Natural Immunity a myth?” I asked. “How many would say it is false you can get Natural Immunity from a Prior Infection?” Rasmussen Reports was benevolent enough to ask these timely questions in a survey and release the crosstabs to Becker News before official publication. The results? Fascinating.

On a regular day at work, Matt Teague and Forrest Kinney hop into a Durango Police Department patrol vehicle. The car is outfitted with the typical police gear – a dispatch radio, weapons, safety equipment – but also a teddy bear, bottled water and blankets. Teague, a social worker, and Kinney, a police officer, focus on a unique approach to emergency response that combines mental health care with policing. “The goal is treatment, mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment,” Teague said. “Sometimes, it’s as simple as getting assistance through Manna (soup kitchen) or housing assistance.”

You know the stereotype of the NPR listener: an EV-driving, Wordle-playing, tote bag–carrying coastal elite. It doesn’t precisely describe me, but it’s not far off. I’m Sarah Lawrence–educated, was raised by a lesbian peace activist mother, I drive a Subaru, and Spotify says my listening habits are most similar to people in Berkeley. I fit the NPR mold. I’ll cop to that. So when I got a job here 25 years ago, I never looked back. As a senior editor on the business desk where news is always breaking, we’ve covered upheavals in the workplace, supermarket prices, social media, and AI. Freshman Rep. Civil rights groups are calling for the collapsed Baltimore bridge to be renamed when it's rebuilt, citing accusations of racism against national anthem author Francis Scott Key. The Caucus of African American Leaders of Anne Arundel County in Maryland voted unanimously to call for the renaming and will lobby governor Wes Moore on the proposal, as reported by the Baltimore Banner. The caucus includes civil rights groups such as the NAACP and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Leaders argued that the The Star-Spangled Banner author -who the collapsed bridge was named after - was a slave owner who wrote lyrics that scholars have said 'demeaned black people.'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Ukraine will lose the war against Russia unless the U.S. provides further military aid. According to The Kyiv Independent, Zelensky made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting with the Ukrainian fund-raising group UNITED24. “It’s important to specifically address the Congress: if the Congress doesn’t help Ukraine, Ukraine will lose the war,” Zelensky said. “If Ukraine loses this war, other countries will be attacked. This is a fact." The warning is one of the starkest since Russia invaded Ukraine over two years ago, as Congress wrangles over the condition of greenlighting further support.

Berliner, who admittedly leans left, wrote a scathing article about NPR’s illiberal newsroom, slamming the taxpayer-funded network for refusing to address “a diversity problem” within the office. In an article published in the Free Press, Berliner said he opposed many of the left-wing and perhaps false narratives NPR spun about the coronavirus “lab leak theory,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, Hunter Biden’s laptop, former President Donald Trump, and the 2016 Russia hoax.

mericans are being urged to stay away from classic American dishes like steak and eggs and some desserts because there's a small risk of catching bird flu. That is the advice of former FDA food safety advisor Dr Darin Detwiler who said animal products that are not properly cooked could harbor small fragments of the virus which is currently tearing through US farms. That means steak should be cooked well done and eggs with runny yolks should be avoided. Even salad dressings like Caesar can be a risk due to being made with raw eggs, he said.
