NEW YORK — Calling him a “clown, genius, edgelord, visionary, industrialist, showman,” Time magazine has named Tesla CEO Elon Musk as its Person of the Year for 2021. Musk, who is also the founder and CEO space exploration company SpaceX, recently passed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos as the world’s wealthiest person as the rising price of Tesla pushed his net worth to around $300 billion. He owns about 17% of Tesla’s stock, which sold for almost $1,000 each on Monday. Time cited the breadth of Musk’s endeavors, from his founding of SpaceX in 2002, to his hand in the creation of the alternative energy company SolarCity in addition to Tesla, CORRECTION*

On a regular day at work, Matt Teague and Forrest Kinney hop into a Durango Police Department patrol vehicle. The car is outfitted with the typical police gear – a dispatch radio, weapons, safety equipment – but also a teddy bear, bottled water and blankets.
Teague, a social worker, and Kinney, a police officer, focus on a unique approach to emergency response that combines mental health care with policing.
“The goal is treatment, mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment,” Teague said. “Sometimes, it’s as simple as getting assistance through Manna (soup kitchen) or housing assistance.”

Since last year, the department tasked with overseeing foster care and child welfare in New Mexico has been encrypting and routinely deleting its communications, making much of its work essentially untraceable.
The leadership of the Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) has directed staff to use Signal, a secure communication app, and has set chats to automatically delete. In contrast to standard text messages or emails...

A ban on oil and gas leasing on federal land could have dire consequences for New Mexico and the U.S. fossil fuel industry, as such a move was proposed by presidential hopeful and former-Vice President Joe Biden.
Biden, who was nominated by the Democratic Party to challenge President Donald Trump in November’s election, previously announced that if elected President he would work to gradually phase out the leasing of federal public land to the oil and gas industry.

The news media and other crime families are singing the praises of the Biden campaign for its brilliant strategy of counter-programming the Republican Convention with Democrat riots and looting.
NBC’s Chuck Todd, in an interview with the life-size cardboard cutout of himself he keeps in his bedroom for when his wife is away, said, “Republicans have debased themselves with calls for absurd patriotic unity, programs for garish prosperity and a foreign policy selfishly designed to help the United States before anyone else.”

A video circulating on social media (see below) shows the unnamed officer drive up to a protester and have a short conversation.
“You having a good day today?” says the officer through his passenger side window, which is rolled down.
“Not really, you’re around,” replied the protester.
“I’m sorry for that. But just don’t worry man, cuz guess what? I’m leaving. You guys won,” the officer says. “F***ing two months baby, I’m out.”
“You’re about to resign?”

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich is calling for the resignation of Bernalillo County Sheriff Manny Gonzales.
“Sheriff Gonzales wasn’t representing Bernalillo County when he opposed body cameras. He wasn’t representing Bernalillo County when he opposed efforts for common sense gun violence reforms. And he isn’t with us now," Heinrich said.
The senator claims Sheriff Gonzales is inviting the Trump administration to send federal forces to help patrol the city.

FARMINGTON – A natural health store in Farmington has received community backlash in person and on social media after posting an anti-Black Lives Matter and Antifa sign, asking supporters of those groups to shop somewhere else.
Wildly Natural Foods posted a sign earlier this week that said, “If you support ANTIFA and/or BLM please shop elsewhere.” When Sam Bibo, a resident of Durango for the last eight years, saw the sign posted on Facebook, she asked family friends who live in Farmington to visit the store to see if it was true.

A&E has decided not to run new episodes of “Live PD” this Friday and Saturday, while Paramount Network has delayed the Season 33 launch of “Cops,” the long-running reality series that was scheduled to return on Monday.
The decision to hold “Live PD” and “Cops” comes as protests over police brutality continue across the nation following the killing of George Floyd by Minnesota police officers, shining a spotlight on the widespread abuse by law enforcement against African Americans.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New data from Johns Hopkins University shows that the Navajo Nation is now leading the nation in COVID-19 cases per capita.
According to the data, the Navajo Nation has 2,304 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people. In comparison, New York has a rate of 1,806 per 100,000. New Jersey follows at 1,668 cases per 100,000.
Much of the Navajo Nation lacks water and electrical utilities. At a time when disinfecting and hyper sanitation is critical to fight the virus, many homes don’t even have the basic infrastructure of running water.
