"The View" host Sunny Hostin was shocked to discover her family's hidden history in a new episode of the PBS documentary show "Finding Your Roots."
The documentary show researches prominent figures' family histories through historical records and DNA testing. On Tuesday's episode, show host Henry Louis Gates Jr. revealed one of Hostin's ancestors on her maternal side was likely involved in the slave trade in colonial Spain.
Her third great-grandfather also "owned at least one human being," he said.
Hostin, whose mother is Puerto Rican and father is Black, confessed the revelation left her "in shock."

Why feel guilty for something someone did over 150 years ago? That's ridiculous. My great grandfather was a rich old coot. He ran a still during prohibition and had a dance hall on his huge farm. Do I feel bad about that? No. It was another time. Another day.

Why do liberals think stuff that happened 150 years ago is somehow a reflection on their character?

If the term "ABW" had not already been coined, Michelle Obama, Sunny Hostin and Joy Reid would have served as the poster sisters.

Sonny, lay aside that collective guilt. Did you whisper in your twice great granddaddy's ear; buy that slave. If you did, I want you tell me the secret of time travel.

The first slave holder in Georgia was a Black plantation owner but they don't want to talk about that, do they?

I do believe it was common for some slave owners to sleep with their slaves sometimes even forcefully, sometimes not by force. The fact that it happened is bad but a lot of bad things happened in those days. Just by looking at her she obviously is not 100% black so this can't be too surprising.

It's amazing that she's amazed.
Didn't even consider that the Spanish had massive number of slaves all throughout the Caribbean, South and Central America.
Florida is admitted into the United States as the 27th state on this date! After centuries of Spanish rule, 20 years of British control, and almost 25 years as a U.S. territory, Florida was finally voted in as a state
The Territory of Florida was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from March 30, 1822, until March 3, 1845

She should immediately resign from the view and drop out of any kind of public life or future public appearances. The horror of having ancestors like that disqualifies her from any public voice or influence. It also means she should pay individual reparations until she is financially destitute. /sarc off

“her third great-grandfather's Georgia voter registration card from 1867. The show host said Hostin's ancestor was likely born into slavery in 1835.”
So Sonny……
Where would you be, if this hadn’t happened?

"That's disappointing" is likely what nearly every American that had slaveholders in their family would say. Yet they have not been immune to the castigations of people like this racist.
