Hawaii's highest court ruled Wednesday that Second Amendment rights as interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court do not extend to Hawaii citizens, citing the "spirit of Aloha." In the ruling, which was penned by Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Todd Eddins, the court determined that states "retain the authority to require" individuals to hold proper permits before carrying firearms in public. The decision also concluded that the Hawaii Constitution broadly "does not afford a right to carry firearms in public places for self defense," further pointing to the "spirit of Aloha" and even quoting HBO's TV drama "The Wire."

The 2nd Amendment was enacted and incorporated in the Bill of Rights for precisely the reason the Hawaiian Court has given. The 2A is an admonition to the States that their governing authority will be annulled unless this right of self defense is respected.

So, if Hawaiian courts believe the US Constitution doesn't apply to them, then the state should be expelled from the USA. Then we'll see how long before they devolve into a third world country.

It was a serious mistake to make Hawaii a state. I've always been convinced of this. I remember my father a USN office in WW2, stationed in Hawaii after the war telling how corrupt their court system was, totally racist against white Americans. ANYTHING that any American was charged with got a guilty judgement by the Hawaiian judges, 100%. And my father was the assigned "legal affairs officer" for his squadron, and spent a good bit of time in court, supporting sailors and occasional officers with traffic issues or fighting. Apparently the locals loved to pick a fight with a sailor knowing that the Hawaiian courts would side with them, no matter what.

You don’t want to be a part of the US, leave. But, as long as you’re one of the 50, you will abide by the US Constitution. The Supreme Court is going to smack you down so hard, you won’t know what hit you. Mahalo.

As someone who was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, I am very sad to see my birth State become more radical Left than ever.
Maybe it's because they were locked up in their homes so long during Covid that their brains are no longer functioning.
Anyway, Hawaii will go the way of Colorado and will be slapped down by the Supremes. Maybe then they will wake up.

This is hilarious! I finally stopped laughing, but I'm still grinning! The "Spirit of Aloha" trumps the United States Constitution? Maybe Obie WAS born in Hawaii! That would explain his disdain for the Constitution! --Along with the "Spirit of Cannabis"!

Once a state, you have all the rights and obligations of all the other states. This will not go down well, at all. The lawsuits will be coming soon. Citizens should totally reject any actions on the part of the government to take any firearms.

I have some specific reasons and the means to visit Hawaii, again, but have been reluctant to book because of the left-wing loon government there. This just reinforces my reluctance.
Are you listening Hawaii visitors bureau?
