"How did things ever get so far?" asked Don Corleone of the "Five Families" as he tried to understand how camaraderie among the leaders of the New York mafia had devolved into open warfare. "I don't know. It was so unfortunate, so unnecessary." If the Ghost of Ronald Reagan were with us now, he'd be asking the same question. No conversation about politics today can escape touching on our polarized and toxic society[Snip] It does make you long for the good old days when every liberal and virtually the entire GOP establishment in Washington, DC hated Ronald Reagan.

O P nailed it. America needs George Washington or a president Polk also. They're long gone. What we have now and Bozell ignores is a President Trump. A man AND his family more villainized with lies and corrupt law fare than ANY other politician in Americas history. A man AND his family that has given more than most, with notable exceptions, for the future of our nation it's children and culture. Yet it is never enough for the Bozells of the world. get in the fight Bozell and quit navel gazing.

Reagan was only interested in defeating the commies and lowering taxes. Both were good goals, but that wasn't anywhere near enough. His US SC picks were 50/50. Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy were horrible. William Rehnquist and Antonin Scalia were great. Then he provided amnesty for millions of illegal aliens. Not a good record IMHO.
I voted for him in 1984 because Mondale was worse. I voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004, because the alternatives were worse. Never voting for the lesser of two evils again. Let the country go to Hell in a handbasket if that's how people vote. Only then will there be a chance -- not a good chance, mind you, but better than having a Reagan and Bush in the White House.

Remembering Reagan through rose colored glasses is revisionist history. I loved the man as President, yes.
But he was NOT real strong on gun rights, and while very strong on international relations, he did make some serious errors, too, and was greatly limited by an uncooperative Congress.
Besides....he's dead.
MAGA, Trump 2024.

Reagan was a great president. He won his first election and when he ran for the second time, he got 80% of the vote. Yep. Eighty percent. Let's see someone do that today.

If not for massive voter fraud President Trump could be pretty close to 80% of the vote. We'll never know because of the aforementioned voter fraud.

In Reagan's world, the Left was far more rational and respectful. Todays dems have abandoned all that. It Reagan's day, a strong moral stance could triumph. Today, the dems and media make up "news lies" and when they are uncovered, everyone shrugs and continues to lie. If a Conservative isn't buried by the news lies, they unleash lawfare by Leftist prosecutors and judges that make up law as they go along to persecute Conservatives. Reagan would have been stunned by todays Left. He was a gentleman in gentle times. Today, politics is a brawl because of the tactics of the Left. Reagan wouldn't stand a chance. We are where we are because the Left has taken us there.
Trump is the brawler we need, who can win. He can beat the Left into retreat and submission.

This is not an article about Ronald Reagan. It is a book review for Bozell's pal's book. But, while we are on the topic of Reagan, Reagan was absolutely right man and president for his time. Democrats were pains in the butt but their viciousness had yet to be honed. That would come soon enough. The press while leaning left at least tried to be somewhat, and I say somewhat, even handed about reporting the news. And there was even something of a Republican party then.
Fast forward some 40 years and in 2024 we see an absolutely debauched, perverted, America hating, democrat party, (a party more aptly described as the communist party) that will stop at nothing to achieve power to totally transform the US. This vile party however, has incorporated , republicans, corporations, academia, many religious organizations, technocrats and a leftist state media along with one world global partners into what we now call the Deep State.
In Reagan's era, I don't think voters feared that their elections were corrupt or that their votes might not counted. Or that thousands and thousands of votes would magically appear in so-called drop boxes, all made out for the same democrat candidate. Americans believed then, that elections would be the final adjudication for the issues and policies facing the country. How charming that concept is now.
In the 1980s Americans would have been sickened to see their fellow citizens round up by a weaponized, perverted, politicized and unequal justice system, that seems to revel in imprisoning, terrorizing and ruining the lives of and sometimes killing, its citizens who believed they had the right to protest the results of a very questionable presidential election on January 6, 2021, or protest at school board meetings, or belong to pro-life organizations. Ronald Reagan would not recognize his beloved country. Indeed, many of us living through this reign of terror, don't recognize it either.
Today, America is a country beset by a global Deep State, a conglomerate, a vortex of corruption and authoritarianism, that knows that the United States of America, this exceptional system of government that has been a beacon for nearly 250 years, is the only thing standing it its way for global domination. This conglomerate also knows that Donald J. Trump is the only man who can and will lead the fight to defend this great nation and her people. Trump, has been attacked and lied about as no other president, perhaps with the exception of Abraham Lincoln. Everything has been thrown at him, yet he will not yield, bend, break or give up. And that's very, very dangerous for him.
It is a vastly different time, a much more dangerous time now for the survival of our constitutional republic, than it was in the 1980s. As I said, Bozell's article is a book review not a serious look at how Ronald Regan would fare with a USA that is on the verge of dissolution.

Ah, no. One person cannot drain the Swamp, as Trump found out in his first term.
You need a conservative Congress and a conservative Supreme Court, in addition to a strong president. You need red state governors and DAs who prosecute criminals and state legislatures who refuse to pass stupid laws.
I don't think I will ever see this in my lifetime.

We need Trump. I would like it though if he were to develop some of the humility of Reagan.

Yes, America needs more Ronald Reagan’s & other real men of that type from his generation. But, as badly as they hated Reagan & as much good as he did despite them, this is a different world. Right now, America needs Donald Trump at the helm of leadership. But, far more than any man, America needs the God.
