One of the biggest donors in Democratic politics this year isn’t sure if he really wants to be a Democratic megadonor — at least not on the party’s terms. But then, part of life as Sam Bankman-Fried is about embracing paradoxes. The 30-year-old, who has amassed an estimated $20 billion fortune over the last four years through cryptocurrency, drives a hybrid Toyota Corolla. He shares a penthouse with about 10 roommates and cooks for himself.

Worth 20 bil, living with 10 ( ten ) roommates, drives a Prius, is a vegan and wants to save the world from the next pandemic. Something not quite right there.

Steve Bing was a big political donor too, until he ran out of money and jumped out of his apartment window.
If this guy hasn't cashed out his cryptocurrency, he's an idiot.

Citizens understand, donors = rule, control and societal mores. The myth is over.

Isn't crypto currency just a pyramid scam? If so this guy cashed out and made a killing.

Just what we need -- another political ignoramus who thinks that making a lot of money gives him wisdom. If he has ever read any alternatives to the Dem platform of spending more money on everything it is not apparent in the article. Does he know anything at all about pandemics, or does he just trust the politicians to appropriate the money and spend it effectively? I'm pretty sure that a vegan diet addles the brain, and lack of curiosity with a big dose of self-importance doesn't help.

I tried to read the whole article, but couldn't get through it.
FTA: “Covid has killed 100 times as many people as [those who died on] 9/11 and we spent a trillion dollars on foreign interventions, created the Department of Homeland Security and radically transformed our foreign policy — and we did nothing after Covid,” Gabe said. “If we really wanted to protect against another pandemic, then … we need the kind of bipartisan cooperation and support for this, for biosecurity in a post-Covid world, that we have for national security and a post-9/11 world.”
Honestly, if these brothers, are as smart as they claim to be, then they would have done their research and know that the REASON the Democrats don't care about creating a serious "pandemic response" for the future is because they intentionally exasperated/mismanaged/etc. the current pandemic expressly for political gain. Hundreds of thousands of people would not have died had doctors immediately used well known therapeutics to treat people early. Courageous doctors in the medical community figured this out early and were silenced. Perhaps he should be putting his money into investigating why this happened and how to remove the villians from government that orchestrated this whole mess -- and then remove the sheep that followed them. And, then go after the Big Pharma for following up the pandemic response with an ineffective at best and lethal at worst, vaccine.

FTA: “He thinks he can reshape Washington and he can’t.”
Well, maybe he can with wise placement of his money. His strategy is to win "safe seats" through the primaries - representing both parties. There are more "safe" seats than competitive, thanks to state partisan districting. These types of elections are relatively cheap in which to play. A quarter- or half million here and there will wipe out the hardly-funded opposition.
People laughed as Soros did the same with state Secretary of State positions...you know, the guys who oversee elections. Who's laughing now?

Covid has NOT killed “100 times as many people as [those who died on] 9/11.” The medical community, together with the CDC, the FDA, the WHO, woke corporations and the democrats did that. If this guy wants to put his money to good use, he could start by working to eliminate all of them.

sounds a lot like gerorgei swartz. Ruin the economy of England and make a billion, and leave the country. Now trying it here with our justice system.

Although this article is about yet another excessively rich Democrat Party donor, who "embraces paradoxes" by financially supporting every tired, trite pseudo-progressive initiative known to man, what caught my eye is the fact that this young man amassed 20 billion dollars in four years through cryptocurrency. I am a capitalist who supports the free market but find myself astonished that the successors to the men who built the transcontinental railway, unleashed cheap energy onto the world through oil exploration, made the steel mills and freed us from the horse and buggy era, are those who outdid all these men in money making by dabbling in something as ephemeral as virtual cash. The subject of the article seems like a good sort but is he really who we want to shape the course of our politics? I think not.
