The idiom for pregnancy, “a bun in the oven,” which traces its origins back more than 2,000 years to Ancient Greece, is in fact “misogynistic,” according to Kathleen Crowther, an historian of reproductive medicine at the University of Oklahoma. Crowther insists the idiom reduces the role of the mother to a mere incubator after the majority of the work has been done by the man. “I don’t think most people who use that metaphor are being misogynistic.” “But I think it actually does come from a deeply misogynistic tradition of thinking about women’s bodies as passive,” she argues.

I thought it might be offensive to describe a developing human being created in God's image as a "bun", but no it is only trying to divide men and women.

Oh fer Chrissake. These people are really scraping the bottom of the barrel to find something to be offended by. And how much does the University of Oklahoma pay a "historian of reproductive medicine" and what does she do, other than publish bilge like this?

I see it differently. The idiom may be a bit crude, but at least there's no magical thinking about where the "oven" is located. Only women can have babies. Women can call themselves men while "incubating" the baby, but the baby emerges only from the female uterus.

Methinks, the University of Oklahoma needs to examine its staffing requirements and see if they don't have some unnecessary or downright useless positions. Perhaps, they could cut burgeoning costs to students if they eliminate some of these nonsense jobs.
And #6, any reference to watermelon would be racist, as well as sexist.

we could always go back to the days of I Love Lucy network censorship and just call it "expecting". Or is that offensive to the people who are waiting for the UPS guy?
