In 1949, the trailblazing anti-racist musical “South Pacific”––created by composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II––debuted on Broadway to wild critical acclaim, running for over five years in nearly 2,000 performances.
A particularly powerful and influential song from the musical, “You’ve Got to Be Carefully Taught,” carried the message that hatred does not arise spontaneously in the human species, but rather is inculcated––taught, sermonized, infused––by parents, teachers, coaches, political figures or other impassioned haters. Here are the still-relevant lyrics:

In a brief announcement Friday, the couple’s grandson Jason Carter said the pair “are spending time with each other and their family. Sixteen pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested Friday after they barged into News Corps’ Manhattan headquarters – which is home to The New York Post newsroom – and occupied the lobby, chanting, “Free Palestine.”
The disruptive demonstration came just two days after News Corp was highlighted on a disturbing map calling for “direct action” to “globalize intifada.”
“One, two, three, four … occupation no more!” the group chanted outside the Midtown building, while several attendees waved Palestinian flags and signs, video shows.
“Five, six, seven, eight … Israel is a terrorist state!” they continued under the direction of a man shouting into a megaphone.

A somber-looking Donald Trump led his family and dozens of other people in mourning his sister, retired Judge Maryanne Trump Barry, at her Upper East Side funeral Friday.
The ex-president, his wife, Melania, and his children Don Jr., Eric and Ivanka were seen waiting on the sidewalk in front of St. Ignatius of Loyola Church on Park Avenue around East 84th Street in Manhattan to greet the black Cadillac hearse carrying the coffin of the Queens native and former no-nonsense federal judge and assistant US attorney, who died Nov. 13 at age 86.
As the hearse pulled up to the church, the Trump family embraced until Trump Barry’s coffin emerged,

A Michigan judge on Tuesday dismissed an effort to keep former President Donald Trump off the state’s ballot in 2024.
The judge said that under Michigan law, the secretary of state does not have the authority to intervene in a primary election if the party chooses to list a candidate who would not qualify for the office.
“The ultimate decision is made by the respective political party, with the consent of the listed candidate,” the judge wrote.
The decision comes after a group of Michigan voters in September filed a legal challenge to Trump’s candidacy,

In the post-World War II era, Democrats were labeled as the political party that represented average Americans. Democrats were credited with fighting for the rights of the working-class, minorities, women, and the disadvantaged. In contrast, the Republicans were supposedly the party of the country club elitists, the Chamber of Commerce, and the business tycoons looking to garner favors from the government.
These generalizations may have resembled the truth through the years of Republican presidential nominees such as George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney.
However, in the last eight years, since Donald Trump became the leading Republican, the political parties have switched roles. Today,

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) threatened to have a far-left journalist “thrown off” an Amtrak train Monday after the lawmaker was asked about his resistance to calling for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.
The Delaware Democrat was apparently riding in the quiet car of the locomotive when Grayzone reporter Aaron Mate, who was seated across from Coons, apologized for putting him “on the spot” and demanded to know why the senator hasn’t called for a “cease-fire in Gaza.”

Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators are expected to flood the National Mall in Washington, DC, on Tuesday in one of the largest pro-Israel protests since the Israel-Hamas war began five weeks ago.
The “March for Israel” — organized by the Jewish Federations of North America and Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations — is billed as an opportunity for “Americans from all walks of life” to condemn rising antisemitism across the nation and to demand that Hamas finally release the hundreds of Israeli hostages it is hiding in Gaza.
“Israel must eliminate the terrorist threat on its border and restore safety and security to its people.

A year after Twitter was ridiculed and then taken over for classifying Babylon Bee's humor as hate speech, Vimeo sent out a letter announcing "Seth Dillon – The Babylon Bee was removed for Hate Speech." The letter refused to name anything hateful that had been said or to specify what in the talk triggered the ban.
They censor you after the fact, but they also censor you before the fact. There's pre-censorship that happens because people are afraid to make jokes and statements like this knowing they will probably get censored, so they censor themselves.

Hundreds of anti-Israel protesters calling for the elimination of the Jewish state stormed Grand Central Terminal Friday night, furiously banging and kicking at a locked entrance of the station that was forced to temporarily close over the rowdy demonstration.
The mob was part of a “Flood Manhattan for Gaza” protest that initially converged on Columbus Circle earlier in the evening, where they set fire to an Israeli flag and taunted a small faction of counter-demonstrators before marching through Manhattan and splattering fake blood on the New York Times building.
“We don’t want a Jewish state. We want ‘48!” the anti-Israel protesters chanted at the starting point,

Several years ago, I wrote a column entitled, “Something Evil This Way Comes” because there had been so many incidents occurring which defied common sense and smacked of nothing short of evil.
Consequently, it came as no surprise that our Catholic diocese restored having the St. Michael prayer said at the end of each mass.
I sent away for a statue of St. Michael the Archangel that graces the mantle of our fireplace because he is the most the Archangel that graces the mantle of our fireplace because he is the most powerful angel and my favorite.
