The superintendent of a New Jersey school district banned official school-wide Halloween celebrations under the guise of “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” claiming the festivities may offend people from various cultural and religious backgrounds.
Families of students in the South Orange & Maplewood School District district received a letter on Oct. 6 from Dr. Ronald G. Taylor, the superintendent of SOMD, asking parents to reflect upon how school-sponsored Halloween celebrations exacerbate inequity.

Is this a win for dental health and for family finances.
No expensive, overpriced candy and no extra cavities.
Too bad school isn't replacing the time wasted with a strong curriculum of reading, writing and arithmetic.

I assume Thanksgiving and Christmas as next. Of course there has been "a war on Christmas" for a very long time but so much money is spent on food, gifts, travel etc. that no one really has the nerve to cut Christmas off at the knees. I worked in Kindergarten for 9 years. And occasionally we had a student who did not celebrate certain holidays. We would call the parents, discuss their wishes, advise them of what we had planned, and they could send their child to school or home school him for the days they did not want them to participate. At that time it was a half day Kindergarten so it was easier to maneuver these situations. We had some kids participate in all the learning activities involving Halloween but not come to the party. Which was fine. They were able to count pumpkins and black cats for math, color, cut and paste Pilgrims and Indians and enjoy hot cocoa and peppermint sticks at snack time during Christmas. But to act as though this time and these holidays did not exist is foolish. We never had a student who needed a safe space and a therapy dog because we had a Christmas tree by the main office. No one had nightmares because we enjoyed the sights of Halloween like going to a pumpkin patch. Everyone was welcome to enjoy the festivities. In 9 years I only remember a handful of students who did not go to the Halloween or Christmas parties. But it was their parents choice and it was respected. To deny these kids of some fun around this time of year is a shame. So you can't discuss ghosts and Halloween witches with kids, or Elf on a Shelf, but you can advice them about being gay, or a tranny or that you really are not a boy or a girl is okay. Something is wrong here. You are a child for such a short period in life. Let them be kids and enjoy what life has to offer.

We always had fun at Halloween. Mischief Night was Oct. 30 and some people soaped windows or played small pranks. At school we just wore a mask or something simple, and had some snacks. Trick or Treat was at night and every kid dressed up and got candy. It's a shame to deprive kids of the whole experience.

Just like with so many other things, the communists find things people enjoy and outlaw it. Look at all the things we used to do 50 years ago and can't anymore. A little at a time, drop by drop they are erasing our culture.
I think I'll drink a beer while riding in the back of a pickup truck with a menthol cigarette and playing cowboys and indians with the kids. And the driver will not be wearing a seatbelt.

Somebody doesn't like Halloween,. It's not my fav either but this isn't about the event - it's about school administrators (The Government) deciding what's good for us or not based on 'diversity'. 60 years ago we had both: three Rs and Halloween.

The only good thing about Halloween is the day after when chocolate candy is marked down 50%. Right... I am a Halloween Scrooge.

Imagine the backlash if it were banned because it offends people from a Christian background who don't believe in normalizing the occult.
Personally, I'm offended by ten-dollar bags of candy.

Ghost costumes are usually white sheets draped over 8 year olds while trick or treating. The Ku Klux Klan wore white sheets many decades ago. Therefore, Halloween must be canceled because white sheets would be code for racism. Democrats strike again.

Halloween is a time to dress up in costumes and pretend to be something/someone else. We have the gender confused/cross dressers doing this every day. What is the problem with setting aside one day for normal people to mock those who can't decide which bathroom to use. That is certainly being inclusive to the extreme.

With Dei being Latin for "God", it strikes me as at least a little ironic that the cult of D.E.I. sees itself as more authoritative than the actual Dei.

Whatever happened to CELEBRATE DIVERSITY and all cultures are equally good? Just because some newcomers to this country might not know what Halloween is or understand it; does not mean that everyone else must stop it. How will anyone ever get to know the American culture if it is sanitized so as to not offend anyone. Other cultures who come here do lots of things that offend Americans. They are not usually forced to stop doing their customs and traditions. We are expected to assimilate them into our culture. This should be a two way street. If they don't like American culture, they are free to return to where they came from.

Just IMAGINE the Leftist Media Squalling if the school were to ban the Pervert's so-called 'Pride' week because (to quote the article) "festivities may offend people from various cultural and religious backgrounds".... you know, like the Christians who pretty much built this nation.
ABC (a.k.a the All Barack Channel) would have a Conniption Fit!
.... and the rest of the Lamestreams would be right there with 'em!

The parents should tell the school district that they are offended by people who are easily offended.

Halloween reaches children. It says it is OK to do evil things as long as it is in a church.

Yet another example of how extreme leftist the education establishment has become. Who in the world is offended by kids dressing up on Halloween? Perhaps, ultra-conservative Christians, due to the pagan/occult origins of the holiday. But we know the left has no interest in protecting them from being offended. Perhaps, it's just about control.
