Iran understandably believes it is riding relatively high.
It is flush with cash. It hints it almost has the bomb -- and might use it soon.
The Iranians are bragging about their new tyrannical allies like Russia and China. Iran boasts of now being the self-proclaimed leader of jihad on behalf of all Muslims. It gloats that it is feeding the Russian war machine by exporting its own drones.
Tehran proudly supplied and funded Hamas's savage murder of Jewish children in Israel.
It eggs on its other pawn, Hezbollah, to launch a reputed 100,000 Iranian-supplied missiles into Israel.

We should all thank Jimmy Carter for Iran's existence.

Good article: FTA : An appeasing Biden is not driving events but being driven by them, whether he knows it or not.
He doesn't know it and he will react badly.

A point Hanson didn't make is that Iran is the leading Shiite entity in the world, while the vast majority of Muslims are Sunni.
Sunnis are in agreement with Iran right now (that whole "enemy of my enemy is my brother" thing), but how long will that last? I can't see reactionary, fundamentalist Sunni terrorist groups letting a Shiite ayatollah telling them what to do.
Operative word here is "fundamentalist". This is a schism that have been in existence since Muhammed died, and the last big fight between them was the Iraq-Iran War of the 1980s. It is not a "let bygones be bygones" thing.

Hanson is one of my Must Reads, but we disagree on this FTA: a devastating Western response that would not necessarily be "proportionate."
Biden and his clown circus would never retaliate 'in kind'. Think of all the positions he's filled in the WH and the Pentagon with Palestinian partisans.

Here again...the focus is on only "military/Political" targets.
Ignoring the economic low hanging fruit, and the fragile branches those fruit dangle from in the (somewhat) Free Market west.
Iran is perched in a controlling position over key chokepoints for international shipping, primarily Oil/Gas shipping. and because they have a state run command economy(as does china) they can and likely will choke those points throwing shocks through all of the already fragile western economies.
One ship aground or sunk in the Suez shuts it down, totally. We have seen that before, several times.
The only pipeline from the red sea to the Mediterranean is the Egyptian SUMED twin 42" pipelies with a total capacity of only 2.4m/b/d
Blocking the straits of Hormuz stops 30% of world oil shipping.
18.5 million barrels per day.
It's channel is only 2 miles wide(each way, with a 2 mile separation buffer)
Only Saudi arabia and UAE have pipelines that can bypass it and get anything out of the Persian gulf.. The combined capacity though is only 6.6million barrels per day.
Then...all that is left is the Bab el Mandeb, connecting the red sea with the Gulf of Aden/Arabian sea/Indian ocean with Yemen perched on the east side of the narrows, only 18miles wide, with a 2 mile wide shipping lane. Even field artillery can control it, Which side will Djibouti and Eritrea who control the west side choose to support?
Any one of these chokes squeezed is a massive pebble in the world economic pond, 2 or all is a bowling Ball into a Bathtub.
When margins get called and/or panic selling begins(aided by massive computer trade dumping by Chinese and Arab funds) All western stock markets will crash to new lows...and ready Chinese/Arab/Petro/Narco Trillions will buy at pennies on the dollar (Deutsche mark/Euro)
Just in time for loooong cold winter, of discontent, with massive domestic "Challenges" in the cities of "Allies", an inkling of which they have already shown.
It will take the USA at least a year to ramp up production from the constraints Biden placed upon us, refinery capacity will take much longer, at least we have FOOD capacity, most of the world does not...at least not without ready fuel. Getting it to market will be an issue, likely ALL fuels will get nationalized and controlled by the Govt under "Emergency" rules.

Well #1 Carter is a great example of why good people like him should never hold power.
As they can't see the World beyond their own virtue.
Only those who are tough, honest & devoid of delusions are fit to lead.

Iran intends to trigger some form of Armageddon as their "religious duty to bring back the 12th Imam" and then after everything, including Iran is destroyed....their magical 12th Imam will wave his magic wand and everything will be back perfect with the Muslims in charge of the whole world for the next many thousands of years.
They WANT to destroy the world. This is why they are so dangerous. They are not looking to survive, they want destruction.
The right answer is to give them their destruction now, ASAP, complete and total, but no way that our side had the spine to do what is required. Dangerous times and the Dems and Euroweenies have been funding the Iranian nuclear program. Obama and Valerie Jarrett are literally plotting for the end of civilization - intentionally.

We had thousands of troops in Iraq when Iranian soldiers were caught red-handed killing Americans and making off with valuable Iraqi religious relics. We let them get away with it. That was the time to stop Iran cold long before they had the bomb. GWB was not very good at identifying our enemies

I disagree. Persia seems to be doing quite well against US without firing a shot. They got 1.2 Billion for each hostage, but they were dual Iranian-American citizens, lots more where those came from. Russia is won in Ukraine and is tight with China so not that bad alliances for Persia.
