Rep. Jim Jordan's bid to become speaker failed for a third time on Friday, with no end in sight to the House leadership vacuum as Congress faces a deadline to avoid a government shutdown and the White House calls for urgent security assistance for Israel.
Jordan has insisted on remaining in the race despite failing repeatedly to secure the gavel as support for his bid erodes further with each consecutive vote. This time, 25 Republicans voted against Jordan, who boasts the support of former President Donald Trump. Twenty-two voted against him in the previous vote.

Does the GOPt have any ability at all of producing want-to-be leaders who have the ability to to huild a winning coalition of any kind? The only result so far is copium and victimhood.

Jim Jordan listen to all those standing behind you. Refuse to let the back room treachery being done by Kevin and Scalise (with Dems) beat you down. Stand up and keep voting. The ones who blink first lose.

The House being shutdown is a gain for the American people. There is no urgency to pass uniparty spending bills. Jordan should make them vote for speaker 35 times, or more. Eventually the Democrats will fold as it is them that are being blocked.

#4, I'd like to believe the validity of your point, but that would require Republicans to act like they have an ace up their sleeve rather than the living embodiment of a giant upright middle finger.

The humiliation of Jim Jordan continues thanks to the narcissism of Matt Gaetz and his seven member goon squad. With each scheduled vote Jordan loses another representative and the momentum builds for a speaker who can “reach across the aisle” and obtain the Democrats’ support.
While those Republicans who refuse to vote for Jordan deserve condemnation and contempt, the blame for the debacle falls on Gaetz. Anyone with functioning brain cells should have remembered how excruciating it was the last time around with 15 separate votes to select McCarthy. How stupid must Gaetz be to think that such a twerp as he could wrangle any result other than the mess that is disgusting America. The only silver lining is that any influence Gaetz had is now crushed. He’s over.

I guess there is no humiliation for Kevin McCarthy? He kept giving Joe Biden what he wanted especially with the Ukraine funding. All of those monies could have been used in the United States. All we get is more debt. Yep, that's right no humiliation for McCarthy. . .

Whoever is better organized wins. That's why the country is going down with a Dim party that is organized and sees the power in sticking together.

#4 and #6. McCarthy is a snake. He promised this and he promised that . . . . all to be Speaker of the House. I for one, would like to see the Jan. 6th tapes . . . remember? If Gaetz did nothing else, he helped to reinforce exposing the GOPe and the corrupt takers, who are a good share of the reluctant voters for Jordan are. Starting with Scalise.

The fault isn't with Jim Jordan. What the 25 want is an individual with no balls who will cater to the democrats and sing Kumbaya. The republicans do not have a majority, they merely have more people who call themselves Republicans.
But at least 25 of them are with the opposition.

Only five uniparty RINOs need to join with the democrats or just not vote and the democrats can elect whoever they want as Speaker. I doubt they will go so far as to re-elect Pelosi, but it is probable that the next Speaker will be a "moderate" RINO who is acceptable to the democrats and to five RINOs.

Great news. They can't waste any of our money or take any of our freedoms when paralyzed.
Enjoy some extra days of freedom before they start up chipping away at the Constitution as they always do.

#3, no, the democrats had a speaker until Gaetz showed up. And, #6, give it up. That dog don’t hunt. Your GOPe underdrawers are showing.

What is this really all about? Guessing this is about making sure the next Speaker is completely anti-Trump and won't cut spending, but nobody will say that. They should have stuck with McCarthy because whoever they get next will likely be worse.
The reason we don't have a speaker is because we don't really have a two-party system. The anti-Trump types control the House. They control Congress. They put on a show looking like two parties, but on all essential issues they are in agreement. Especially out of control spending. Everything else is window dressing for these people.

McCarthy may be a dreaded “Rino” but he gave an excellent speech when he nominated Jordan for Speaker this morning.

#20, How about directing that question to the Rinos who have thrown the House into confusion? It is they who are at fault. The American people have spoken and they want Jordan as Speaker but these Rinos will not accept a conservative. What is their reason? Has anyone asked them that? They are the problem because they will not accept the will of the people which makes them no better than democrats.

If, by the American people speaking, it means through their elected House members, then, yes, the majority wanted Jordan as speaker. A higher percentage wanted McCarthy to stay as speaker. Since only House members get to vote it is through them that the voters have a say. 96% of the Republicans in the House voted to keep McCarthy. Only 4% voted to oust him and colluded with the Democrats to get it done. The only voters who got to speak on this issue were those in Gaetz and company’s districts and I doubt a majority of them support the foolishness these eight brought.
