WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawyers for Donald Trump asked a judge Thursday to dismiss the Washington federal election subversion case against him, arguing the Republican is immune from prosecution for actions they say were taken in his official role as president.
The motion amounts to the most pointed attack yet by defense lawyers on the federal case charging Trump with plotting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election he lost to Democrat Joe Biden. It tees up a fight over the scope of presidential power,

America faces a crisis that we acknowledge yet shamelessly exacerbate for political expediency.
Our leaders sit on their hands, under the impression that the consequences will patiently wait for their willingness to address them.
Meanwhile, our cities and quiet suburbs are oblivious to a grim reality gathering overhead. This crisis is our national debt, standing at a colossal $33 trillion. That's the equivalent to the economies of China, Japan, Germany, India, and the United Kingdom, combined.
This figure provides useful context, yet the true challenge lies in the annual amount required to repay that debt.

Former President Donald Trump revealed Thursday that he would accept a short-term role as speaker of the House “if necessary” to unite the Republican Party.
Trump, 77, told Fox News Digital that if Republicans struggle to reach a consensus on a replacement for Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), he’d be willing to fill the role for a “30, 60, or 90-day period.”
“I have been asked to speak as a unifier because I have so many friends in Congress,” the former president said. “If they don’t get the vote,

With House Republicans scrambling to select a new speaker, which won’t happen until next week, the media decided to drop the latest development concerning Donald Trump’s legal woes and mishandling of classified information. It’s all bad news for the GOP—why not pour more gasoline on this bonfire? Trump has already been indicted by Special Counsel Jack Smith, constituting the most robust case against the former president. The Stormy Daniels and January 6 indictments are fallacious, as is New York’s civil case against him on fraud.

Nadine Menendez, wife of embattled U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, was involved in a fatal car crash in 2018 prior to marrying the New Jersey Democrat.
According to police reports, Menendez struck and killed 49-year-old Richard Koop with her Mercedes-Benz. The victim had allegedly been jaywalking. But new questions are being raised following a New York Times report on the incident, which resulted in no charges and was not picked up by media at the time. The revelations are especially important as they help explain one of the bribes alleged in the federal indictment against her and Sen. Menendez.

Kevin McCarthy becomes the first speaker to ever be successfully ousted in a motion to vacate vote. One day, you can tell your grandchildren you were alive to witness this completely pointless bit of history.
Matt Gaetz’s self-aggrandizing political stunt makes no sense and changes nothing — other than perhaps his fundraising totals. And other than some platitudinous blathering about “the establishment” and “the uniparty,” I still haven’t seen anyone offer a coherent reason — not even retroactively— for how any of this is the “best way to advance the conservative agenda.”

Americans should consider their tax strategies now ahead of potential changes at the end of 2025, experts warn.
Trump-era legislation brought in by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in 2017 made sweeping changes to the tax landscape.
This included lowering individual income tax rates, almost doubling the standard deduction and raising the federal estate tax exemption. Unless these rules are extended, they will expire on January 1, 2026, sparking major changes for millions of taxpayers across the US.

Republican officials slammed the Biden administration following Thursday’s quiet revelation of its intention to expand the border wall with Mexico — continuing the construction of the barrier that was a hallmark policy of former President Donald Trump and was subject to relentless criticism from President Biden and the Democrats.
According to GOP members, the announcement is regarded as a “politically convenient” and unreasonably late one, which serves to highlight the “hypocrisy” of the current administration and its policies.

Disney has failed to make any inroads with conservative Americans who turned on the entertainment industry giant over its woke politics, according to results from a new Rasmussen Reports survey previewed exclusively by The Daily Wire.
Just over 60% of Republicans have an unfavorable opinion of Disney, including 35% who say they have a “very unfavorable” opinion, the survey conducted by Rasmussen in late September found. The results are starkly divided by political identity. While among Republicans only 32% have a favorable view and 61% have an unfavorable view, for Democrats the results are almost exactly the opposite — 61% of Democrats view Disney favorably and just 29% unfavorably.

Former President Donald Trump filed a motion on Thursday seeking the dismissal of federal election conspiracy charges on the grounds he cannot be prosecuted for actions he took while in the White House.
Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, is to go on trial in Washington in March of next year for allegedly conspiring to subvert the results of the November 2020 election won by Democrat Joe Biden.
The former president’s lawyers, in a 52-page motion to US District Judge Tanya Chutkan, argued the charges should be thrown out.

“How bad is the border crisis, really?” you might ask. You’re probably aware that a mini Democrat Civil War is brewing — in New York, of all places — where the arrival of a few tens of thousands of illegals had Gov. Kathy Hochul sniping at Presidentish Joe Biden last week. Just a couple of days ago, in Chicago, residents of the West Side’s Galewood neighborhood were “livid” over plans to house illegals there. None of that is anything compared to today’s news that the White House just hit the panic button so hard that it almost made me spill my martini.

The move is apparently a procedural step, according to the Associated Press:
The procedural step removes a charge alleging he broke a law against drug users having guns when he bought a gun in 2018, during a period he has acknowledged struggling with addiction.
The president’s son is now facing a three-count indictment focused on the same purchase that includes both gun possession and false statement charges. No new tax counts have yet been filed by special counsel David Weiss, who is overseeing the case.

But I’m not a wall scientist, so I figured there must be good answers to those questions but the answers were beyond my ken.

The claim by Newsweek is rather alarming – that the Dept of Homeland Security and FBI consider President Trump supporters as domestic violent extremists (DVE’s) in combination with official designation from the FBI as “domestic terrorists.”
There’s nothing within the article, the citations or the quotes from multiple anonymous officials within the domestic surveillance system, that will seem a surprise if you take away the hyperbolic use of adjectives and descriptive statements. Yes, to the Newsweek readers, anyone who would challenge their worldview or political position is dangerous; after all, these are the same people who equate words with violence.

To me, this story sums up the entire Biden presidency: take something simple and screw it up.
For most people, a dog in the household brings joy and unconditional love and also gives the owner a responsibility to make sure the canine is cared for and healthy. But Joe Biden can’t even seem to get that right, as his dog Commander has a fondness for biting people—and as my colleague Jeff Charles reported in September, he has a special taste for Secret Service agents.
He has chomped on them at least 12 times since 2021, and now he’s been caught on camera:

Former ESPN host Sage Steele said that interviewing President Biden was “the saddest thing” because he seemed confused and “couldn’t finish his sentences.” “He struggled,” Steele said of the oldest president in US history, who “trailed off” on topics even more than two years ago. “So forget about politics. I don’t care, I didn’t vote for him,” Steele told Bill Maher on his “Club Ransom” podcast Sunday, admitting she thinks Biden is “a terrible president.”

While the spotlight has been on Republican inter-party strife lately, there's trouble in paradise across the aisle. The border crisis has reached levels of disaster so obscene that not even Democrats can ignore it any longer, and the Biden administration is starting to shift its strategy.
According to RedState's Bob Hoge, the president has waived several environmental laws to start construction on a new section of the largely incomplete border wall.
The Biden administration announced they waived 26 federal laws in South Texas to allow border wall construction on Wednesday, marking the administration’s first use of a sweeping executive power employed often during the Trump presidency.

Facing a pileup of spending bills and a possible government shutdown, 20 Republican senators led by Sen. Rick Scott (Fla.) say they will delay any legislation moving on the Senate floor that does not relate directly to funding the government.
Scott circulated a letter at the Senate Republican lunch Wednesday warning Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) that GOP lawmakers will not tolerate further delay to the annual appropriations bills, none of which has yet passed the Senate. “Nothing can stand in the way of this work. For this reason, we the undersigned senators pledge to withhold our support for any vote to proceed to items unrelated to appropriations

An alleged member of a secret Iranian government influence network visited the Biden White House at least five times for high-level meetings with senior U.S. officials, according to visitor logs. Ali Vaez, an Iran analyst with the International Crisis Group, was outed last week as an alleged member of a vast Iranian-government-controlled propaganda network that helped push Tehran’s talking points in Washington, D.C., and influence policy, according to Semafor. Vaez reportedly communicated with senior Iranian government associates as part of the Iran Experts Initiative, an influence operation run by Iran’s foreign ministry. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) said this week that if he becomes the next Speaker of the House, he is against sending another aid package to Ukraine.
The remarks from Jordan come after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted from the role of Speaker following a historic vote on Tuesday led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), several other Republicans, and the entire House Democrat Caucus. “Are you willing to move forward with an aid package to Ukraine if you’re speaker?” CNN’s Manu Raju asked.
“I’m against that,” Jordan responded.

The medical system in New York City is straining under the weight of the constant flow of illegals.
Hospitals and medical centers are being overwhelmed by the sheer number of people seeking treatment and it’s not surprising. When you suddenly add tens of thousands more people than a system was designed for, this is what you get.
Have the people of New York had enough yet?
NBC News reports: Inside a New York City hospital on the front lines of the migrant crisis - In the past year alone, medical centers across the five boroughs have received nearly 30,000 visits from undocumented migrants

If you’re kicking yourself for missing the historic moment of a House speaker’s ouster Tuesday because you had to work or get your kids from school, relax: We watched, and all it boiled down to was hot air — sound and fury, signifying nothing except cynical nihilism and likely weeks of chaotic paralysis. Oh, Rep. Matt Gaetz and his fellow rebels talked plenty about high principle and the crisis of the Republic, but all they were really doing was burning down the House, or at least the House Republican majority.

We wrote earlier about how one of the first orders of business for speaker pro tempore Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) in the aftermath of the House's ousting of Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as Speaker was to notify former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) that she needed to immediately remove her things and vacate her hideaway office. Also, according to reports, an email sent from a House Administration Committee aide indicated the room was being redesignated “for speaker office use."
Naturally, the move prompted some wailing from Pelosi, who proclaimed that the decision was "a sharp departure from tradition."

The Biden administration will waive 26 federal laws to allow several miles of new border wall construction in South Texas, leading former President Donald Trump to argue that his signature policy was correct all along.
The Department of Homeland Security posted the announcement on the US Federal Registry on Wednesday, allowing the construction in Starr County, Texas, part of a busy Border Patrol sector seeing 'high illegal entry.'
'There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas,' DHS Secretary

The American education system used to be the envy of the world, and we need to return to the tried and true ways of traditional classical education, according to the founder of a standardized test for classical education that’s an alternative to the College Board’s SAT.
“The mainstream education system is at fault in a generation that thinks America is the big, bad bully and that isn’t grateful for the country. A country cannot be sustained on this,” Jeremy Tate, founder of the Classic Learning Test, told Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts on his “Kevin Roberts Show” podcast.

The 2024 election has seemed to be a preordained outcome, with current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump holding substantial leads in their respective parties. But in October’s I&I/TIPP Poll, both major candidates’ support slipped a bit against their challengers. A one-off fluke, or the start of a trend?
The most recent online I&I/TIPP Poll, taken Sept. 27-29 from 1,262 registered voters, saw slippage for both candidates, though neither will yet be pushing the panic button. The overall poll has a margin of error of +/-2.8 percentage points.

So, eight conservatives have successfully ousted Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House and much of the conservative punditry is angry!
What does that tell us?
It tells us that all those RINOs who voted to retain McCarthy are not conservatives. That any member of Congress can and does vote to perpetuate the brutally irresponsible spending of the uniparty that runs the swamp which should be a wake-up call for all Americans. Congress can't stop spending and the Fed can't stop printing money to do it. Modern monetary theory is a joke; printing money backed by nothing is a dangerous way to operate.

Political pundits are stunned at the recent ouster of Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy. The removal is the latest public backlash against political establishment politics in the United States implemented by a corrupt intellectual culture. The catalyst to McCarthy’s defeat was certainly the vote for a continuing resolution on the Federal government’s budget activities that remain far beyond constitutional order and the primary driver for the inflationary pains the general public has felt since rapidly escalating federal government spending in spring of 2020.
America’s intellectual culture is dangerously malicious and reactionary -- spinning false narratives in order to control an American public that is increasingly restless

The FBI is reportedly probing a Christian faith group that counts Catholic Supreme Court justice Amy Coney Barrett as a member, months after Republicans accused the agency of targeting Catholics.
The agency has interviewed several people who claim they were abused by members of the group, People of Praise, sources told the Guardian. (snip) During Barrett's confirmation process in October 2020, her critics hammered on her association with People of Praise, framing the group as radical and misogynistic. Media outlets publicized allegations against the group by a former member who, the Washington Free Beacon reported, has a history of far-fetched claims, litigiousness, and hyper-partisanship.

Former President Donald Trump raked in more than $45.5 million in fundraising during the third quarter of 2023, his campaign announced on Wednesday.
The nearly $46 million raised during the third quarter is $10 million more than the campaign raised during the second quarter. Of the $45.5 million, over $37.5 million is cash on hand, with roughly $36 million designated for use during the primary elections. “In an impressive testament to the overwhelming grassroots support behind President Trump that will lead to dominating victories, close to $36 million of the total cash on hand is designated for the primary,” Trump’s campaign said in a statement.

The relationship between the Secret Service and Joe Biden is suffering from a “breach in trust”, is “combustible” and “stressed” over repeated attacks on agents by the Biden family’s German Shepherds Commander and Major, and by “unrealistic requests”, as well as the Bidens’ paranoia that agents remain loyal to President Trump, according to CNN which buried the blockbuster news in a report on the Bidens’ dog Commander being removed from the White House after yet another biting attack on an agent last week.

The Biden administration seeks to force transgender orthodoxy on ordinary Americans via its Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
The EEOC aims to weaponize a federal law prohibiting harassment on the basis of sex in the workplace by forbidding employers to believe that biological sex can not be altered due to one’s self-identification, according to a report by the Daily Signal.
The federal agency published a proposed rule for workplace harassment Monday, citing the Supreme Court’s decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, which states, “sex-based discrimination includes discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.”

President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he approved $9 billion in student loan forgiveness for 125,000 Americans.
The relief is a result of his administration's fixes to a number of programs, including the income-driven repayment plans and Public Service Loan Forgiveness. More than $5 billion of the aid will go to 53,000 borrowers who've worked in public service for a decade or more; $2.8 billion of the forgiveness is for 51,000 borrowers enrolled in income-driven repayment plans; and another $1.2 billion of the cancellation will go to 22,000 borrowers with disabilities. The announcement is likely to help Biden as he runs for reelection, experts say.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said on Monday that the dire conditions on the U.S.-Mexico border allows the administration the legal right to waive dozens of laws and regulations in order to rapidly build sections of border wall in areas of south Texas that are being overrun by illegal aliens.
Mayorkas said in an announcement on the U.S. Federal Register that the situation makes it “necessary to waive certain laws, regulations, and other legal requirements” in order to ensure the expeditious construction of “physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States.”
