We wrote earlier about how one of the first orders of business for speaker pro tempore Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) in the aftermath of the House's ousting of Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as Speaker was to notify former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) that she needed to immediately remove her things and vacate her hideaway office. Also, according to reports, an email sent from a House Administration Committee aide indicated the room was being redesignated “for speaker office use."
Naturally, the move prompted some wailing from Pelosi, who proclaimed that the decision was "a sharp departure from tradition."

If any of this intrigue is true it only solidifies the vote to dump McCarthy. He took Pelosi at her word and thought the corrupt wench would save his sorry butt. Typical politician.

She has retired. She no longer needs to hang around. If you want an office go rent one.

I don't understand what a 'hideaway' office is? Is it where you hide your sins and corruptions?

So McCarthy grows a pair when the witch Pelosi does him wrong? Is that what it takes for McCarthy to do the right thing, to do something bold? If so, don't let the door hit you in the butt, Kev. To that point, I was so disappointed that it was McCarthy that made the decision. I thought, YAY, the new broom coming in maybe, just maybe will have the cujones to do what needs to be done in that cesspool. But no, just the swamp creature McCarthy teed off that the Queen of the swamp done him in.
They all rot.

Hideaway office was probably where Nancy dropped in for a quick intravenous drip of Vodka.

I would have preferred her getting KICKED OUT WHILE she was sitting in her Fat Azz Chair! Dragged out kicking and screaming would have been quite a show!

Anyone dumb enough to make deals with the devils, and then actually expect them to keep their word never had any business being speaker in the first place.

Slight correction to #3 - although she is no longer Speaker, she is not retired. I'm stuck in her district, and try not to remember that her Presidio mansion is only about 3 or 4 blocks away.
Aren't the hideaway offices meant to provide a more secure location for the highest ranking? Really only makes sense for those in the top few levels of Presidential succession, e.g. the House Speaker.

I still can't figure why the Dems let McCarthy go. They could have kept him as speaker and watched the continued GOP fighting.
For each GOP vote to remove McCarthy, the Dems could have contributed one vote to save him. And I think that might have been the McCarthy-Pelosi/Hoyer deal.

There are multiple aspects to this...the secret hideaway offices are secondary offices in addition to their "Public" offices in the same building. I do not remember that "Former Speakers" were even entitled to one before Pelosi, I do not think they were, In fact when pelosi got the Gavel she shook up house office allocations and sent most repubs out of the building and into The Cannon and Other office towers, allowing newly elected junior reps that were Dem to have Capitol offices that had previously been allocated by seniority.
I am also curious how many of the votes cast in this whole speaker and budget/CR kerfuffle were cast by Proxy, rather than in person. Covid is long past...but Many Dems are still voting by proxy, claiming a "Medical risk" exemption, even as they attend other meetings, fundraisers, parties both in DC, at home, and even abroad, while roll calls/votes are being held in the chamber.

The Wicked Witch of the West, can dish it out but she can't take it - how amusing.
- the demcommies will be out with long knives after 2024 so --- the repubs had better win both houses with a huge majority or else there'll be republican blood on every inch of the Capitol building floors

Typical drunk bully that she is Mumm-Ra Pelosi says that the move to kick her mummified carcass out of her hideaway office is "a sharp departure from tradition." Never mind the fact that she had several "sharp departures from tradition" while she was S of the H. Like her vendetta against a sitting President. I don't remember a Republican Speaker having "a sharp departure from tradition" against a democrat president. Ever. You just know that the demo-wits will not let this stand. So, the republicans including the RINOs better gird their loins because the other side has angry mobs and the fake news in their pocket. We all know what that will mean going forward.

I didn’t know about Hoyer being booted out of his office as well. He is another odious creature who has been in congress forever so this just makes the whole thing even sweeter.

The country is going to [expletive deleted] in a handbasket, and our imperial legislators are fighting over offices. We are becoming like ancient Rome. Now all we need is for Biden to nominate his dog Commander for the next SCOTS vacancy and we'll be there.

I have to respectfully disagree.
My understanding is that 'The Tradition', according to The Witch, is that, that particular office is reserved for 'the former Speaker'.
The Former Speaker' is now McCarthy, who will be moving in (after appropriate cleaning, extermination, disinfection, exorcism, and repainting).
It appears to me that 'The Tradition' is being Upheld.
Pee-lousy is no longer the 'Former Speaker', she is the 'Former-Former Speaker', perhaps known as the 'Former Speaker Once Removed'.
(I think there's a Pun in there somewhere!)
I wonder... How many Boxes of CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS did they remove in the process? Where did these documents end up? Were the Pee-Ons who actually have to lug the boxes (or file cabinets) out.... were they 'Authorized' to handle these documents?
Just wondering.

The office is for former leader ... so Kevin is now the latest former leader... Nancy is former former...Since when does Nancy care about departure from tradition????
