Where is Speaker McCarthy?

Original Article

Posted By: DW626, 8/17/2023 6:14:16 AM

The conservative Republicans in the House have long opposed Speaker Kevin McCarthy. As CNN reported back in 2015, "Republicans from the freedom caucus, the tea party caucus, liberty caucus and the conservative opportunity group interviewed the three Speaker candidates." It was a critical moment for McCarthy, the Californian who is viewed warily by conservatives skeptical of his ties to outgoing Speaker John Boehner[.] ... Multiple uncommitted Freedom Caucus members tell CNN they want more detail on how the next Speaker will change the way the House operates and commit to a more inclusive process for conservatives to help craft the party's agenda.

McCarthy is a wimp of the first order. Typical politician, finger in the wind to find his direction. Never have so many, especially Republicans, abandoned all principle and stood silent as the atrocities on the Constitution in order to silence one guy who represents the voices of so many. There is not one Republican at any level with the courage and principle, including McCarthy, to voice outrage at the tactics directed at Trump, should be re-elected going forward.

I am in MTG's district. I've sent 3 letters on her congressional site and never got even a thank you form reply. She may be conservative , but I think more looking for power. The vote on the Debt ceiling is a tell. If the Republicans do not stand up in a visual manner (TV, impeachment hearings) I fear the voters next step will not be pleasant. There are republican DAs that can do the same thing the state of NY and Georgia are doing. You can't tell me there isn't a high profile Democrat that hasn't violated election laws in any majority republican state. The Senators and Congressmen can hold up any bill until fairness is restored....But they don;t. They threaten impeachment but no action. Remember Mayorkas impeachment was to be the number 1 thing to do if the Repubs took office. Still waiting. We are not dumb. pleasant.

Imagine if the United States treated China in the same way it does us. What if American companies simply ignored Chinese copyrights and patents and stole Chinese ideas, inventions, and intellectual property as they pleased and with impunity? What if the American government targeted Chinese industries by dumping competing American export products below the cost of production -- to bankrupt Chinese competitors and corner their markets? What would the communist Chinese government do if a substantial American spy balloon lazily traversed continental China -- sending back to the United States photographic surveillance of Chinese military bases and installations?

Poor Fani. Her moment of glory will be a short one. Lawyers tell us that Fani’s case against President Trump is likely to be moved to a federal court -- because it is directed at federal officials and because the accusations are very similar to those made by Jack Smith in the January 6th indictments. In the end, however, Fani may be happy to let the feds conduct the trial because some of the 161 “Acts of Racketeering” (ACTs) in the indictment involve dangerous criminals doing dangerous things. For example, here is ACT 6 (in its entirety):

“They came with a search warrant," softly spoke Samuel B. Fisher, a mild-mannered cattle farmer operating a 100-acre farm tucked away in Virginia's heartland. Fisher's bread-and-butter, Golden Valley Farms, carves out the scenic countryside that's a hop, skip, and a jump away from historic Farmville, a postcard-perfect small Southern town with classical Main Street charm. The father of five had graciously invited us down to his idyllic pasture to rehash the whirlwind of unforeseen events that unfolded over the cruel summer. It was a tumultuous time on the Fisher farm, an upheaval that threatened to upend the man's livelihood.

Over the summer, media commentators on both the left and right have been discussing Joe Biden's political future. They all largely agree on one thing: Biden is not a viable presidential candidate in 2024. They cite Biden's immense unpopularity due to his disastrous record as president in every field, from the economy to the border to the war in Ukraine. Some cite Biden's physical and mental frailty and the corruption investigations in the House as reasons Biden won't be a 2024 candidate. Others are skeptical that Biden will even finish his current term.

Four cardinal rules of politics: 1) don’t change your opponent’s soiled diapers; 2) scandals possess short half-lives; 3) don’t strike before having the votes; 4) play your best cards last. Political change occurs glacially. Those lacking necessary patience stymie those who comprehend politics’ rules. Conservatives braying for Biden’s head have no idea how to effectuate political objectives. This same mindset -- wisely opposed by Chief Justice Rehnquist -- demanded Bill Clinton be impeached. What did that accomplish? How did the nation benefit in terms of lasting impacts on economics, foreign affairs, or legislative action? (Bush 43 would have subsequently been elected anyway, for other reasons.)

Ever since the end of June, Americans in the media have been chattering about the implications of the Supreme Court ruling in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard. This case, in which several Asian-American students sued the university for racial discrimination, ended with the court ruling for the plaintiffs and banning race-based preferences in college admissions. Already people have had time to argue every question under the sun — is what happened good or bad? More important than most people think, or less important? How aggressively will lower courts enforce it? And so forth.

Judge Tanya Chutkan, the D.C. federal district court's hanging-ist judge when it comes to the January 6 cases, was (quite coincidentally, I'm sure) assigned to Donald Trump's case after Jack Smith essentially indicted him for believing that the November 2020 election was rife with fraud. (That's a belief, apparently, available only to Democrats following elections.) The fact that Chutkan hates January 6 defendants doesn't mean she's anti-Trump. However, Julie Kelly has revealed a trial transcript in which Chutkan openly states her belief that Trump should be in jail. Judges are obligated to abide by rules of conduct and, no matter the jurisdiction.

Insurance actuaries were the first to notice an unprecedented rise in life insurance claims among the healthiest sector of society: working-age people with group life insurance policies. Dr. Pierre Kory writes about the obscene (my word, not his) suppression of discussion and research on this epidemic of death “on the scale of a war or terrorist event” in an article in USA Today and a “longer, less-politically edited version” on Substack. Both essays were co-written Mary Beth Pfeiffer, who first had the idea and did the original research.

The American Medical Association (AMA) has suggested that taxpayers should subsidize uterus transplants worth up to $300,000 to help transgender women get pregnant. Arguments were made to reduce the cost of the surgery in its Journal of Ethics issue in June titled Patient-Centered Transgender Surgical Care. But the AMA has been criticized for floating the idea and has been accused of holding an 'activist position'. It argued that trans women's inability to bear children may cause them to experience 'psychological dissonance' which undermines their health and well-being.

Nevertheless, Biden is crowing over its delusional success. That request went to M. Kaleo Manuel, Deputy Director of Hawaii's Commission on Water Resource Management, and he delayed approval of that water for five hours - five hours in which the once-contained fire exploded. By the time the approval was received, workers were unable to reach the siphon release so that the water could be diverted.
