Bowing to popular demand to expand upon my recent analysis of the DeSantis strategy, I note that all the smart insiders, like @MAGAKing69 and @TrumpMemeLord4976, have come to a conclusion – it's time for Governor Ron DeSantis to pull out of the race. It's all over, seven months before the actual voting, because the polls they like reinforce their (and the Bulwark sissies', and the Democrats') hope that Heavy D just can't touch the Trump.

He should have NEVER entered the race in the first place....now there be another ''loser'' mark against him.

#1 nails it, DeSantis should have been patient and he would have been the Golden Boy in 2028. Unfortunately that train left the station.

Excellent piece. Hope Republican primary voters realize there is a very good alternative to Trump on the general election ticket.

#2, and if "Grandpa Badfinger" wins against Trump (which he will) there may not be a Republican Party by 2028. We could easily become a one-party country.

His hubris won't let him! He could have worked with Trump and been of great value to America. Learned something along the way. But he listened to the siren calls of RINO's and come out on his own as an alternative to Trump. Personally, I don't believe Trump will be allowed to win in any case but splitting the ballot will certainly not help.

Like it or not, the DOJ is on a clear path to stop Trump. And yes, it’s infuriating. But I believe they will succeed. So does DeSantis.

Nice cheerleading job Kirk. There are more variables in the next presidential election equation that seem to meet your eye which will effect the outcome. I usually enjoy your writing but this time it appears that you are tromping the grapes on this piece.

Sorry, Kirk, dress your opinion up in your gladiator narrative and I am still not buying it. I do not trust Ron DeSantis. In fact, I once really admired him now I cringe whenever a see or hear him. He is not trustworthy and he has too much stink of the establishment on him and I have had enough of that to last a lifetime. Ron DeSantis is a hard no.

I look at all the different political circles in our government and realize they are doing the same thing. They are all trying to make their opponents look worse than themselves. It's a race to the bottom. The last to hit bottom wins.
The country is on fire and collapsing around our ears and this is what we have to rely on? None of them are serious about governing. It's all about power and money to these people. If this is the best this country has to offer, it won't survive.

I maintain that DeSantis is a carefully cultivated Deep State, RINO plant in the Republican party. No way this guy who worked for government institutions for the majority of his life is not a Deep Stater.

OK # 10, will you stay home next year if Trump is not the nominee? And I cannot understand your antipathy toward Ron DeSantis, the most conservative governor out there. Who cares about a couple of votes he might have cast as a congressman? So what if he shook hands with Jeb Bush at some ceremonial event? And as to donors, well, guess what? You need a king[bleep] load of money to run a serious national campaign. and Governor Ron is doing all the right things whatever his donors may want or think.
I am convinced that Schlichter is right - Trump cannot win a national election, as unfair as that is. If we are to be in any way effective conservatives need to adapt with a new face and a new strategy. 2016 is history.

RdS is being pushed by the insiders because they know he will lose if they can get him on the ticket.

Should Desantis end up the Republican candidate, the Democrat will win the Presidency. In that scenario, Trump voters will either be writing in their votes or not voting at all. Trump conceivably could get more write in votes than Desantis gets votes.

Schlichter is definitely correct in his assumption that if Trump doesn’t begin to appeal to a wider swath of voters he will lose in 2024. While surveys and polls at this time are not worth much they still can point to the strengths and weaknesses of the candidate. Right now the polls show Trump losing to Biden in all the swing states he lost in 2020.
The majority of voters aren’t interested in litigating the last election nor are they they basing their vote on how persecuted Trump is. Trump has to put that aside and concentrate on convincing them that he will fix the mess this country is in. If he doesn’t do so he will lose. The longer he marinates in his grievances the better DeSantis looks.

You are correct #17, but Trump is not going to change. The ones who only want Trump are fooling themselves if they think they have enough votes to make him president again. The hate is too strong for him, and he is not trying to broaden his base. I believe we have already lost 2024, if Trump is our nominee. Kurt is right, like it or not.
