Washington — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said GOP senators will not help Democrats temporarily replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein on the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee, ending any hopes among Democrats that Republicans would allow them to push through judicial nominations as the California Democrat recovers from an illness.
"Let's be clear: Senate Republicans will not take part in sidelining a temporarily absent colleague off a committee just so Democrats can force through their very worst nominees," McConnell said on the Senate floor on Tuesday, calling it an "unusual request." Democrats need Feinstein to help push through President Biden's judicial nominees

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Trump-DeSantis primary battle is now a two-sided affair. After sidestepping former President Donald Trump and his allies for weeks, a group of Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis supporters have begun to push back amid a flurry of criticism from the former president.
Never Back Down, the super PAC supporting DeSantis, came out swinging with two new videos that take direct aim at Trump. One that came out the same day that Trump addressed the National Rifle Association said he sided with Democrats on some gun regulations.
“Trump the gun-grabber doesn’t deserve a second chance,” the video maintains. Then came a second one on Sunday

PORTLAND, Ore. — The REI store in Portland's Pearl District will close at the end of February 2024, the company announced on Monday.
In a letter to REI members, the company cited concerns over safety and an increase in crime over the last few years as reasons for the closure.
"The safety of our employees, members and customers is always our number one priority. In recent years, Portland has been dealing with increased crime in our neighborhood and beyond. Last year, REI Portland had its highest number of break-ins and thefts in two decades, despite actions to provide extra security," REI said in its letter.

The FBI has arrested two men accused of running a covert station for China’s police force in New York, and using it as a base to track Chinese dissidents living in the US.
The station, in Manhattan’s Chinatown, was allegedly set up in February 2022 and operated by Beijing’s ministry of public security (MPS) as part of a campaign of transnational repression against Chinese pro-democracy activists and other political opponents around the world. The justice department also announced charges on Monday against 40 MPS officers and four others for allegedly running an internet troll operation against dissidents in the US, creating fake social media accounts to harass them and recruiting

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced Monday that the state legislature is preparing a bill to revoke development agreements that a Disney-controlled special district board provided to the company before a state-controlled board took the reins in March.
DeSantis said the Disney-controlled board offered special deals to Disney, in “direct defiance of the will of the people of Florida.” Disney, he said, essentially was negotiating with itself to prevent the state from taking control of development in the district.
“That’s not going to work,” he said. “That’s not going to fly.”

Twitter CEO Elon Musk said that U.S. government agencies had “full access” to directed messages on the platform in an excerpt of an interview with Tucker Carlson released Sunday afternoon.
“The degree to which various government agencies had effectively had full access to everything that was going on on Twitter blew my mind. I was not aware of that,” Musk tells Fox News anchor Carlson in one clip cut from a longer interview set to air Monday night.
“Would that include people’s DMs?” Carlson asked.
“Yes,” Musk responded. In another clip posted on Monday morning, Carlson jokes with Musk about Twitter’s recent decision to remove the New York Times blue verification

'Many of those who supported the special operation yesterday are now in doubt, or categorically against what is happening'
Yevgeny Prigozhin, chief of Russia’s notorious mercenary Wagner group, on Saturday urged President Vladimir Putin to stop the “special military operation,” as the Kremlin calls the war in Ukraine. In his op-ed about the current situation on the frontline posted on Telegram, Prigozhin, who lost thousands of militants in the battle of Bakhmut, suggested that Moscow should declare victory in the Ukraine war. “The ideal option is to announce the end of the SMO (special military operation), to inform everyone that Russia has achieved the results that it planned for,

Governor Ron DeSantis was briefly interrupted in the middle of his speech at the Republican Party’s Amos Tuck fundraiser dinner in New Hampshire on Friday night. Protesters stormed the stage chanting, “Jews against DeSantis!”
The Florida governor was in the middle of section of his speech talking about upcoming “governor races, president races,” when two women tried to unfurl a banner emblazoned with “Ron Desantis: Loves Israel, Hates Jews” written in black on a banner before it was quickly ripped as they were escorted off the stage.
“You gotta have a little spice in the speech, right? I mean, you gotta have a little fun,”

The FBI arrested alleged Pentagon leaker Jack Douglas Teixeira on Thursday, closing the first chapter of an ongoing story that still has many questions to answer – including whether the classified documents Teixeira posted online are accurate or not and how he came to possess them.
Here are the known facts of the case, as of Friday. Who is the “leaker?” The suspect in custody is Jack Douglas Teixeira, a 21-year-old resident of North Dighton, Massachusetts. Attorney General Merrick Garland said on Thursday he was detained as part of “an investigation into alleged unauthorized removal, retention, and transmission of classified national defense information.” FBI agents arrested Teixeira without incident at

Pompeo first shared the update with Fox News host Bret Baier. “Susan and I have concluded, after much consideration and prayer, that I will not present myself as a candidate to become President of the United States in the 2024 election,” Pompeo wrote in a statement with his PAC, Champion American Values.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito on Friday temporarily blocked lower court rulings that imposed tighter restrictions on the abortion pill mifepristone.
U.S. Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk of the U.S. Northern District of Texas suspended the Food and Drug Administration's approval of mifepristone last week. The U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals blocked that part of Kacsmaryk's order and kept the FDA approval in place. But the appeals court temporarily re-imposed tighter restrictions on how mifepristone is used and distributed, which would make it more difficult for women to access the drug.
Alito blocked those rulings restricting mifepristone access until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.

American taxpayers are likely to subsidize billions of dollars in Affordable Care Act benefits for illegal aliens enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program under a plan by President Joe Biden.
On Thursday, President Joe Biden announced a plan to open the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, and Medicaid rolls to hundreds of thousands of DACA illegal aliens. While DACA, created by former President Obama through executive action, has helped shield close to a million illegal aliens from deportation through the years, the Migration Policy Institute states that about 600,000 are currently enrolled in the program.
