Like most big cities, Chicago has a crime problem. The city is not unique in that respect, nor is it unique in residents charging the police with racism, brutality, and the targeting of minorities.
But Chicago is afflicted with a deadly combination: a police department that walks on eggshells for fear of being accused of brutality, thus making far fewer arrests, and a local prosecutor who believes it’s more important to impose her idea of “restorative justice” than enforce the law.
The city’s police department is under a Department of Justice consent decree that does little to address the real, systemic problems on the Chicago police force but adds reams

These federal consent decrees were issued by Obozo. Baltimore police are under the same type of decree. It was issued by Obozo, and the city hasn't had a year with under three hundred murders since.

Try a Republican. The last Republican mayor of Chicago left office in 1932. Hmm.

No. It's too late. Chi town can't be saved. The societal rot metastasized a long time ago during the Mayor Daley days. I saw a lot of this while growing up in Lake County north of the city. The dim crime machine has a chokehold on all of Cook County. What is really sad is that the minorities continue to vote for the dim party that ensures their poverty and despair. Brainwashing works.

surest way to know if an article on crime in our cities is worth reading is to scan the article for the keywords: SOCIOPATHY, VIOLENT SOCIOPATHY and VIOLENT PSYCHOPATHY. If those words do not appear, the writer doesn’t know what he, she or they are talking about and may safely be ignored. We don’t have a crime problem, we have a SOCIOPATHY problem. Period. End of report.
As for this particular writer, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Putting about 5,000 gang bangers in prison for life would go a long way towards improving things.
But, the endemic massive corruption that is the Chicago government is a huge hindrance to any chance of normalcy, and that, combined with a totally dysfunctional inner city "culture" of drugs, racist black stewing in hate of whites and drugs and crime being "normal" make it pretty difficult, too.

Can Anyone Really Fix Chicago?
No.
No "one" can or should be doing
what "all" can and should be doing.
When the people of Chicago have had enough,
the the people of Chicago will change Chicago.
Or, Chicago can just "Detroit".
It's always their choice...

Was it Singapore or the Philippines that went mid evil on law breakers? They have a death penalty for drug dealers and I think even littering carries a stiff fine, if not jail time. Anything can be fixed but few have the stomach for what needs to be done.

The race had only one candidate who was not black. Everyone I know knew that he had to be elected because Chicago could never survive another UNQUALIFIED black mayor. While Paul Vallas is a democrat, I don't remember him as insane. He had a good plan when he was school superintendent to improve the schools. Time will tell if he has changed. Is he beholden to anyone? My fear is that Obama will be offering "advice" from time to time.
Crime at the moment it number one, however. He is a smart man. Can he prove that he is wilier than a Foxx?

Actually it is quite easy to fix but it can't be done by one person elected as the mayor. Criminals need to be arrested and prosecuted and kept in jail for a long time--more jails need to be built and used, this would require enforcement of existing laws and funding by state and local politicians.

Not as long as people like Kim Foxx are DA. She Chicago’s version of Alvin Bragg and Gascon. Loves criminals, hates law abiding citizens.

Will anyone except the established right ever admit that people of ANY skin color who commit crimes especially violent crimes and who do anything but 'freeze' when commanded are the problem regardless of police action?

Yes.
But it'll take a while.
Start with curfews and teams of national guard. Join it with permit less concealed and open carry. Criminals will try, once, to challenge this.
Then they'll be dead or leaving Chicago for some other, benighted, Democrat run city.

Short answer, Hell No. Lori Lightweight created a whole generation of wild animals that are trained to take what they want and kill whoever crosses their path. They need to be hunted down by big game hunters who act as judge, jury and executioner. There will be more dead people in the streets but they will have deserved it.

It won't matter to many people. Chi Town used to be our go-to getaway. Now it will only be remembered as Obama's Town. He's welcome to it, although he resides in Martha's Vineyard. Maybe he even looks down on Chicago, and probably Illinois (and other ''toddlin' towns). Tell you what, though. I enjoyed my trip to Plains, GA and to Austin, TX.

I lived in the suburbs of Chicago 50 years ago. It is what it always was and always will be as long as the people who live there want it that way.
The drugs and the thugs are plentiful and only the names change from Italian to Russian to Arab or Chinese. Nothing new under the sun.

Can you fix a building after it has crumbled? Can you fix a bridge after it has collapsed? Can you fix a ship after it has sunk? The answer as with the City of Chicongo question is a big fat NO.
