ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A group of Catholic women claims they were denied Communion at an Englewood church for wearing rainbow-colored face masks. Sally Odenheimer said it was an effort to show support for Maggie Barton, an LGBTQ teacher fired from the church’s affiliated Catholic school. Barton claims she was fired from All Souls Catholic School in Englewood after the Archdiocese of Denver learned of her same-sex relationship. The Archdiocese said she was fired because she violated her contract, which includes “refraining from taking any public position or conducting himself or herself in a manner that is contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church.”
I don't understand why anyone would be confused about this. . .

If these folks don’t like the teachings of the RC church…they have other options. Why us this turning into a pity party?

"Odenheimer said the four don’t usually attend All Souls."
There's a surprise.

Wearing a rainbow mask or any other symbol of an ideology that is contrary to Church teachings in public is making a statement against those teachings. Why is it that this woman cannot understand that? I get it that the leftist press doesn't get it but they don't even agree that the Church should have doctrine at all.

“Next up was Doty, and for the first time in decades, Odenheimer said she was denied.”
It’s not clear what was “for the first time in decades”. If it was being denied, I’m sure 99.99% of Catholics have never been denied. If it was the first time she went to Communion, well that tells a different story.

So. Freaking. What? They can refuse communion to anyone they believe to not be in agreement with what they teach, preach, and confess. And when you come to communion in your extra special rainbow mask, to "support" a fired teacher, it's highly doubtful you are truly interested in receiving Christ's body and blood.

Hmmm. I tend to doubt it, but if true....OK by me. The mask indicates that the person doesn't follow the clear teachings of the Bible. So, they shouldn't be getting communion.

I'll also add that this is why I am a strong proponent of closed communion. You do not commune at this altar unless you have been catechized and confirmed as believing what we believe regarding the Lord's Supper, the Word of God, etc. Because we believe the Word teaches you actually receive the body and blood to your own damage if you do not believe what God's Word says about it. And when you walk into the service, there's a clear explanation of why we practice it, so no one will be flouncing up to the rail with any expectation of receiving anything more than a blessing from the pastor. Unless they can't read. LOL

One more thought! LOL They should be thankful they even had the chance. In the early church, all those who were not members were dismissed form the church and the doors were locked before communion was given. And to quote Joey, that is, in fact, a "true story".

OP, I love your posts but I hate to tell you that your statement is an oxymoron. If the Episcopal Church was “almost Catholic” anything would NOT go there. Not only is the Episcopal Church NOT almost Catholic; it’s barely even Christian these days.

Homosexuality is not just ‘contrary’ to RC teachings, it is considered a mortal sin. Change, repent or be condemned.

She didn’t want to receive communion, she was there to stir up trouble. Plain and simple. “Let’s all jump on the ‘get Catholics’ band wagon now that it’s started. Anarchist!

#3, they are trying to use LGBT+Whatever as a "Get Out of Jail Free" card. If the teacher had violated any other provision of the contract she singed voluntarily, she would be fired, but there would be no "cause" to rally around.
And as a cradle Episcopalian, it breaks my heart to see my Church crumble around me.

A pastor with a spine!!! Good for him!!!
Communion is not a "right". It's a gift from God for those who love and serve Him and obey His commands. This pastor "gets it". Hopefully it will trickle up to the pastors of the churches that Abortion-Loving Joe bidet and Nasty Nancy Pelosi attend once every few months for a "photo op". It certainly isn't to hear the word of God, because that would burn in their evil, hate-filled ears!!!!!

It is time for the rest of the Roman Catholic hierarchy, including the phony pope, to take a firm stand on reinforcing God's laws for humanity.

The churches full statement is as close to "Perfect" as a statement in a circumstance like this gets...
“I will say, anyone who considers themselves a lifelong Catholic knows that the communion line is not the place for any political statement, especially when such statements highlight that the person is not in communion with Christ. If anyone believes they were wrongly denied communion, we encourage them to speak to the pastor of their church who, unlike secular media, is better equipped to answer their concerns and help them be brought back into communion.”

Hmmm...if Jesus defines Christianity, and someone refuses to accept His teachings, then they are not a Christian, and should be refused communion.
They have the liberty to believe whatever they like, and can call themselves whatever they like.
However, the Constitution guarantees no one the right to redefine basic vocabulary.

Speaking as a catholic ...I think this was the right course...if you are teaching in a catholic school and reading the Bible and Catechism to youngsters...then it follows that the teaching of the church is your responsibility...why would their parents send them at an incredible tuition price...unless they are taught the Bible....as their parents wish...it's like going into Walgreens to by a car and protesting because they have no cars....

Supposedly Catholic women give the Church “the finger” by their actions and then expect that all will be well.
Surprise! You simply cannot hold 2 diametrically opposed positions and expect that nobody will notice.
