Patrick Buchanan has retired at 84 after a long and influential career as a writer, TV commentator and presidential advisor (Nixon, Ford and Reagan). He saw through George H.W. Bush and later opposed the Gulf War. He opposes the blank check Washington has given Zelensky in this war. On November 21, 2022, Buchanan wrote, “For us, the greatest stake in this Russia-Ukraine war is not who ends up in control of Luhansk, Donetsk or Kherson, but that we not be drawn into a military conflict that would put us on the escalator to a war with Russia, a world war and perhaps a nuclear war. “Nothing in Eastern or Central Europe is

Kiev and Moscow have been at each other for centuries. It is not an American conflict. Get out of the conflict. Unfortunately the MIC and the Biden Crime Family are making out like bandits with the billions of $$$ being funneled into the Ukraine Money Laundering exercise.

This Conservative does not support this war because I do not support Nazis or Fascists (which the media has hidden from the American people). Also more importantly this war could have been easily avoided (and all those fakers out their crying on behalf of the Ukrainians dying because their government has forced them into military service, you are partially to blame due to your support for this war) all that had to be done was to give assurances NATO would not be in Ukraine and honor the Minsk accords. But no too many people thought Russia was a gas station that could easily be intimidated by sanctions and threats. Plus it is the height of stupidity to follow this POS president anywhere much into war or any global confrontation. The man is an idiot being controlled by unseen people who have purely unAmerican and Evil agendas.

I've spent a good bit of time in Ukraine and have a number of friends there still. The misinformed folks who buy the whole "Ukraine is all a bunch of Nazis" are just suckers. Are there corrupt people in Ukraine? Sure, but probably fewer than in Washington, DC. And the average person in Ukraine just wants the normal life of family a job and to be left alone. Yet, the Russian imperialist urge to control everything now that was once in the Soviet Union, or controlled by some long dead czar is still strong among the ruling class thugs in Moscow. Ukraine attacked no one, and is only defending their country. The fact that Traitor Joe and his drug soaked loser of a son have worked with a few corrupt guys in Ukraine is no more a reason to condemn all of Ukraine than the fact that our government has let George Soros live and do his dirty deeds from here is a reason to hate and wish ill of all Americans. I strongly support giving Ukraine the tools to fight Russian aggression. Ukraine has no designs on ANY Russian territory, only to retain it's territorial integrity. Stalin murdered millions of Ukrainians, and now Americans who call themselves Christians and call themselves conservative would assist Putin, a modern day version of Stalin, to do it again. We condemn the NYT for not reporting in the 1930s on the murders of millions of Ukrainians, yet today many want to let the same thing happen by believing all the Russian disinformation about "Nazis" and such. I found a lot more folks that were more like Nazis in Russia than I ever ran into in Ukraine.

Throughout my life we have been at war for all but a few years. When it wasn't an active war, it was a sneaky, under the radar war, with all the costs associated with a war never ending. I'm tired of this BS. Most of the time there is no winning strategy. The goal is to maintain the war. Just once I would like to see those who are so quick to send others to die at someone else's expense, like Bolton, put some real skin into the game.

It is good to understand where those who disagree with you are coming from. I do wish to be clear I do not consider the majority of Ukrainians to be Nazis. In fact I believe them to be humans like all of us only caught in a terrible nightmare that has been brought to life. Their government including the Jewish president has aligned themselves with the Neo Nazis that idolize Bandera. And many in the population support that history and ideology but not all by any means. Emotional attachment is the fraud that feeds war. Again this conflict could have been avoided but Neocons in the US are using and sacrificing Ukrainians to try and destroy Russia and weaken China. Human life has no value to them. In fact this is really not about Ukraine. This is a war that has gone well beyond the borders of Ukraine. An understanding of its roots, causes and potential fall out go beyond a discussion and comments on this forum. That is for each to determine themself. # 4 I do hope for the safety of your friends if they have been caught in this horror due to the actions of others.

Re #7. One old materials scientist friend sent me his yseal Christmas and New Years greeting in January of last year. He lived in Kharkiv, subjected to fiercest bombing and shelling. I have emailed multiple times, but I think he has probably been killed. Another friend from Kiev is now at a research university in Germany. A mother and daughter were in southern Germany a few montggs ago. Others in Odessa are safe and very angry at the damages done to their nice city by indiscriminate Russian missile attacks. My wife and I went to the ballet in their beautiful opera house and watched a great performance of Swan Lake. I have lost contact with several other former colleagues. Re #9. As a person who worked on funding research at some of those biolabs I can tell you exactly what we worked on. In one we tested a hundred promising chemicals for antiviral activity. In anorher, we helped further software development for design of new antibacterial drugs. In another, we worked on developing a better swine influenza vaccine...the old, sane, normal way. In all cases we were employing scientists in non-military projects so that th ey wouldn't be tempted to work for Iran, or Iraq or other bad actors. There are open source government reports available to the public on all of these projects. And the DTRA spent money improving lab security so that various samples of bacteria and viruses that they held were more secure. We worked to PREVENT misuse. And now everyone assumes the opposite without any evidence or knowledge. And I worked with at least one of the institutes mentioned. Pretty darned frustrating to try to talk sense to closed minded folks who are determined to swallow all the Russian propaganda about Ukraine.

Calling Ukrainians Nazis is Russian propaganda. If, 80 years ago, some Ukrainians sided with Hitler over Stalin, can you really blame them? Stalin had tried to starve Ukraine out of existence. And in any event, that was 80 years ago. I support some help to Ukraine in this conflict but not billions of dollars where there is not accounting and where we are effectively being drawn into war with Russia.

This Conservative is against money and munitions going to any country without an accounting as to how much, how many and exactly to whom. I am convinced that most members of the congress are getting many, many dollars in kickbacks from Ukraine. I also object to following a demented old codger into a hot war with Russia. It was the same with pallets of cash that Obama/Biden et al sent to Iran just a few years back. How do we think Obama became so rich? Now they are lining up Michelle the Mooch for her own pile of wealth. I include Mitch McConnell and the Four Undertakers in this group. The Four Undertakers are the Senate leadership: Thume, Cornyn, and two more unmemorable gray men in the Senate.

The United States can support useless conventional wars for decades and we have proven it more than once. Those who laugh off the possibility of this squabble going nuclear can only reference those two firecrackers that we set off in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The hydrogen bombs of today will destroy the Earth and the Green Energy movement that started this whole thing will ultimately be what kills the Earth. Putin and Biden have nothing to lose and big egos combined with insanity are not a good combination.

It's tough to understand what has happened to the Ukrainian people at the hand of Putie. Truly horrible. I continue to hope that they can defeat the russkie army someday sooner than later. But, Putie's "let them bleed until they die" strategy may prevail. It's the russkie way. Yes, while it appears that America is supporting a corrupt government, watching ordinary people who have to put their pants on one leg at a time same as we do get slaughtered by these russkie conscripts would be unbearable.

I do feel for the people of Ukraine, but I also feel for my fellow Americans who are struggling under this illegitimate regime. My loyalty and all that entails goes to Americans. This is not the 60’s and we cannot afford to throw away our money and potentially hundreds of thousands of American lives because the leader in Ukraine is a fool and our CIC is corrupt. Anyone with any sense does not want war especially in this day when people are absolute fools. There are very few serious voices out there trying to de-escalate this situation. All we hear is tear jerking stories about the poor people caught up in this madness. No one wants to see the kind of destruction we have seen in Ukraine. The problem is the lack of leadership and vision. The United States has none. Nothing matters to democrats more than corrupt politics and holding on to power. If you believe they have the best interests of this nation and its people foremost in their decision making, you are naive. They could not care less. Unfortunately, some Republicans are just about as bad. We are so messed up because our leaders are corrupt. This country is being sold down the river by grifters and con men. The government is rotten to the core. There is little integrity to guide them. It’s all about making deals and doing whatever benefits them and pushes the progressive agenda forward. The real threat is that leftist ideology that will destroy us all. This cabal has moved to consolidate their power where it matters. They are an entity to themselves loyal only to their globalist agenda. The heavy hitters at the top of the Davos crowd can and will do whatever is necessary to achieve their goal. Even the threat of nuclear war doesn’t phase them. In fact, it will make their job easier with less people to deal with and total chaos erupting all over the planet when these world wars begin. War has always been a catalyst for evil to expand. This one will be no different except that it will be even more devastating. We’ve seen time and time again what happens when these elites have nudged the world toward a horrific war. Ultimately, they are the last ones standing and manage to do so unscathed and more often than not much richer and more powerful. Americans expect anytime we engage in a war, we will win. However, it should be abundantly clear now that we cannot rely on that assumption. It has not been because of the quality and commitment of our fighting forces but because of political decisions made by inferior generals and Presidents who were politically motivated instead of doing what was right for the country and the American people. Far too many who make decisions that affect all of us are interested in doing the bidding of the profiteers of war.

#4,8 and 11 - Very much appreciate your insights and experiences. There is no doubt that there are many in the Ukraine who are decent, honorable people who only want what we want. Unfortunately, we are witnessing our government's outraged, righteous response to Ukraine's cry for "Freedom!" while watching our own nation crumble and collapse. We are having our own freedoms ripped from us while our Congress salutes Zelensky's efforts and flies the Ukrainian flag while multitudes pour over our borders in an unrestricted invasion. It is easier for us to believe the "Nazi!" narrative that runs counter to the government and media's official story because it has become obvious that we have been lied to on so many other fronts. We are seeing no effort to counter the collapse at home and the notion that we must look outward and spend our resources to vanquish evil in other parts of the world seems a futile exercise when so many lie in our streets and our government seems to be working toward Ukraine's liberation and our subjugation.

We need a peaceful America. Europeans do not want to pay the Ukrainian bills, and neither do I. The Crimean War will be the end of the European Union we constructed and of the almighty Dollar. The Crimean War was planned for many years. This explains why Milley and Lord Austin surrendered Afghanistan so suddenly and why our President was impeached so quickly over Zelensky. Peace and self-determination for the Slavic Borderlands. Russia is a Christian country now, Communism is over there but not here.

While most corporate media coverage of last week’s Republican National Committee (RNC) meeting was devoted to the contested leadership race between Ronna McDaniel and Harmeet Dhillon, the organization’s conference yielded a significant win for election integrity. During the meeting, RNC members unanimously passed a resolution rejecting the use of ranked-choice voting (RCV) in U.S. elections. In an RCV system, voters rank candidates in order of preference. If no candidate receives a majority of first-choice votes in the first round of voting, the last-place finisher is eliminated, and his votes are reallocated to the voter’s second-choice candidate. Such a process continues until one candidate receives a majority of votes.

Important and laudable as it was at the time (1975), we must conclude that the Senate’s vaunted “Church Committee,” under Sen. Frank Church (D-Idaho), ultimately failed in its mission to reform the CIA, FBI, IRS, and the National Security Agency (NSA) anywhere near permanently. Now, 48 years later, we’re in a similar, and arguably worse, situation with the same—and more—three-letter agencies, the only serious difference being that this time Democrats are trying to cover things up while back then it was largely the Republicans. I hesitate to use Wikipedia, given its reflexive bias, but its summary of what the Church group found seems accurate:

WASHINGTON — Outgoing White House chief of staff Ron Klain broke down in tears over and over again Wednesday while handing over power to his successor Jeff Zients — going so far as to praise President Biden as a role model for parenting and Vice President Kamala Harris as a great officemate. “This is the best job I ever had,” the 61-year-old Klain blubbered as he began his remarks at an East Room transition celebration, forcing his 80-year-old boss to supportively rub his shoulder as he regained his composure. In the moments when he wasn’t crying, Klain seemed to confirm that Biden is running for reelection in 2024

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has reportedly pulled dissenter Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) from the important Commerce Committee, which could be interpreted as retaliation for challenging his leadership bid. Further lending credibility to the retaliation theory, McConnell also pulled Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) from the Commerce Committee. Lee supported Scott’s bid to oust McConnell at the time. “People told me not to run for Republican Leader against Mitch McConnell. They said I wouldn’t win. I knew it was going to be hard. But we’ve got to start somewhere,” Scott said in an ad released in early January. “We are on the road to woke socialism
